Save your money. Review by: , Jan 21, 2013 |
| We come to NY just to see Broadway shows several times a year. I like Monty Python stuff but hated this. We left at intermission as we saw no reason to subject ourselves to it any longer. It was not funny and hard to follow. |

Great Fun for the Whole Family Review by: siouxsie, Sep 26, 2012 |
| I took my whole family to see this in June, including a 6 yr old boy and 14 yr old girl, and shouldn't have worried -they loved it. (Only the 14 yr old had read the book) The show is smart, funny, and really inventive, using minimal props to create a surprisingly vivid set and costumes. If some of the lines went over the 6 year old's head, so what -he loved the mermaids (sailors in drag) and especially Black Stache, and the songs ... read more (for a non-musical, this show has a lot of music). Definitely recommended. |

Ambivalent thoughts about this play Review by: S. Francois, Sep 10, 2012 |
| My husband and I attended the Friday night performance on September 7th. The actors are very good and the use of props like vegetable steamers, flashlights, ropes, rubber gloves, etc. are definitely unique and creative. There are also a couple of very funny moments in the play. We would not recommend this play for anyone with young children because a lot of the plot and dialogue will be lost on them unless of course they understand references ... read more to Marcel Proust, etc. Certainly there are a number of adults who would be baffled by this play as well. Although this play received a number of accolades and top honors and awards this is not a play for the average theatergoer. If you decide to go, do not pay full price for the tickets. |

A huge Disappointment and Not for Children Review by: mjdeb2, Sep 9, 2012 |
| Peter and the Starcatcher was a huge disappointment. It is dark and depressing in the first act, the music is forgettable. It is more like an improv than a Broadway show. The cross-dressing Nana and the double-entendre jokes may appeal to some but not for children. |

Really cant recommend it except for the clever production Review by: Bluesky, Aug 30, 2012 |
Obviously people either love or dislike this show, very few in the middle. We saw it last night with two children, and had very mixed feelings. We all were totally confused by the first act, and its darkness and grossness. The second act was more enjoyable, but again totally over the childrens head many times. We felt like we were seeing a Saturday Night Live skit some scenes. It really doesnt come together till the very end. So if you go ... read more with modest expectations you will be better served to enjoy the evening. The acting and production is very good however. In fact the kids commented more on the production and the use of the cast for the scenery than anything else. |

Review by: Chris, Jul 22, 2012 |
| From beginning to end, this show was witty and wonderful! The cast is terrific and works like a well-oiled machine. It is one of the best shows that is presently on Broadway. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell anyone who enjoys terrific Broadway that they need to get a ticket for this show. |

and I had high hopes, but Review by: Legs, Jul 5, 2012 |
| So very bad that words cannot capture the badness. Vomiting, flatulence and every over-used trite expression in modern parlance are the underpinnings of a comedy? No. Despite the creative staging of this play, worthy of commendation, it's a huge disappointment. The concept of a prequel to Peter Pan seemed like it had to be good, which made this adolescent mess an even bigger let-down. |

Treat yourself to a unique night of theatrics! Review by: TyonBway, Jul 1, 2012 |
| I don't understand the negative comments about this show. I saw the show on Tuesday evening and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The blending of narrative and dialogue provided for a unique night of storytelling. The staging was great and everything was very visually pleasing. Keep in mind that this is a retelling of a children's classic and that yes, moments are overacted to appeal to the children in the audience. The play is produced by Disney ... read more Theatrical--obviously don't go to this play if you're expecting a night of serious dramatic action. This play had the most Tony nominations for any new play--EVER. And they were well deserved!! |

Just say NO!! Review by: Ed the Fed, Jun 29, 2012 |
| I saw Peter and the Starcatcher on Monday and I was so disappointed! I read some great reviews for it and had expectations for an entertaining evening. There were people falling asleep around me in the first act! The scene where the hand was cut off was so drawn out and overacted it was painful. Friends had recommended we leave at intermission but I thought it had to get better. Unfortunately, it did not. |

SKIP Peter and the Starcatcher Review by: broadway couple, Jun 27, 2012 |
| My husband and I saw this play and we absolutely HATED it! The jokes were so overplayed, the story just plodded along. We have seen over 20 broadway plays and we could definitely say this was the absolute WORST. Save your money or spend it on any other play! |

Fabulous farce! Review by: DoctorJoeE, May 26, 2012 |
| "Peter and the Starcatcher" is impossibly over-acted, ridiculously farcical, miles over the top...and absolutely wonderful. And very funny. It's a prequel (to "Peter Pan"), but nothing like the other prequel currently playing, "Wicked", which is a sober reminder that there's always another side to a story, and the heroes and villains may not be who you think they are. This one offers no profound moral message; it's a farce, pure and simple.... read more. Like any prequel, you know how it will end; the mystery is how it gets there. Don't even try to predict. And don't try to follow the logic, such as it is. The plot toggles all over the place at an impossibly fast clip. Humorous anachronisms abound. It's not a musical, per se, but there is music. The actors act, sing, dance, do stunts, serve as most of their own props, and exercise themselves to exhaustion. (I wish I had the massage concession for this show.) Adam Chanler-Berat's character, who eventually becomes Peter, begins as a helpless, nameless orphan who hates grownups. Christian Borle is a hilarious rubber-faced semi-lovable future Captain Hook named Black Stache. If he doesn't win the Best Actor Tony he is nominated for, there is no justice. Celia Keenan-Bolger is the Starcatcher. (Don't ask.) She's Tony-nominated too; I don't think she'll beat Cristin Milioti ("Once"), but it could be close. The cast got a cheering standing ovation, and deserved it. Another reviewer said the show isn't for children, but I can't imagine why not; there's no cussing or inappropriate innuendo, and our audience was loaded with kids who all seemed thoroughly entertained. As were we (my wife and I). We seldom see a show twice, but this one may merit a second viewing. As Peter says, it's an "awfully big adventure." |

GO SEE IT. Review by: Julia, May 23, 2012 |
| I never review shows but this show is completely worth the time to write something up. It's so amazing. Everything about this show works so perfectly and is so in sync with everything. Seriously, it's one of those shows where every element fits perfectly together. The cast is incredible and so talented. They work so well together and seem like such a team which is exactly what this show needs to work. It's so fun and literally has everything ... read more in it that makes live theatre so special. A lot of shows these days thrive on being spectacles but this one thrives on the material and the actual actors. So imaginative and creative. So highly recommended. Christian Borle better win that Tony. The entire orchestra was on there feet as soon as it ended. Such a great and hysterical show that is so innovative. Even though it's a play, it has music to it. I knew this going in but there was a lot more music in it than I expected (not complaining) I'm not sure if I would take small children to it. It depends. They'll find a lot of the physical stuff very funny but a lot of the verbal jokes will go over their heads. |

LOVE Peter and the Starcatcher Review by: Zoomorgan, May 10, 2012 |
| Peter and the Starcatcher is such a fun, clever and entertaining show. I enjoyed it from beginning to end, and my friends loved it as much...not an easy task to organize a group of firends to see a show and then have everyone agree that they loved it! The acting was brilliant and will surely win a Tony! |
