Just don't go!!! Review by: So angry., Nov 19, 2012 |
| Wow. I mean... I have never experienced anything so horrendous in all my life. This show is one of the worst theater going experiences of my life. I was told by several young people at TKTS to buy tickets to this production and, after having seen just about everything on Broadway, I figured that I'd give it a shot. The "actress" in the lead (if you can call her that) gives the most careless performance I've seen on stage above a highschool level.... read more. Her bio says she teaches at NYU and, if this is true, she needs to be reevaluated. From her very first action on stage (speaking on the phone) she clearly doesn't care about the production or the (almost totally empty) audience. The women doesn't even pretend that there is someone on the other line!! I've seen toddlers play telephone more realistically. The plot makes zero sense but if you paid and really care to know what's going on you can go to their website and read a ten page synopsis. Basically, don't trust anyone telling you to see this show. They are either liars or have no taste in theater. Another young man at TKTS tried to warn me that it was the "worst show in NYC history" and tried to get me to see Newsical: the Musical instead, but I thought he was just trying to make a sale. Boy, was I wrong... |

True New Yorker Review by: Gigi, May 23, 2012 |
| It was very interesting and very New Yorker... If people didn't like it's because they didn't get into the city mode... I love the under expectation theater, I found the play very well played by that I do it all actress, very nice also the actors. The fact that there is no music it was a little disappointed but over all me friend and I loved it. |

Still a Hit After 25 Years! Review by: aseatontheaisle, Apr 24, 2012 |
| We first saw Perfect Crime, starring Catherine Russell as Margaret Thorne Brent, more than two decades ago and enjoyed it considerably. But when we accepted an invitation to attend the 25th anniversary performance last night, we weren’t sure how well the play would hold up after all those years or whether we’d enjoy it this time nearly as much. We needn’t have worried. The play is still great fun – a rollicking, multi-layered whodunit ... read more in which the lead role of Margaret is still being played brilliantly by Russell (which has landed her a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records). During that time, Russell has spent nearly 17,000 hours onstage performing the role of Margaret, has shot 89 different men and kissed 57 others. In total, the show has employed 237 actors during its 25-year existence – but Russell has been at the center of it all throughout that entire time. It’s hard to imagine that one might live in New York and not yet have seen this show but if you do and if you haven’t, you might find it fun to do so. |

Please, Mayor Bloomberg, close this show! Review by: Ron T, Mar 13, 2012 |
| The only thing that could possibly keep this show running is the out-of-towners who are duped into buying tickets. A friend of mine was placing one of the actors in the show and I had to leave at intermission. It is that bad! Stay away! |

This is simply a delightful play. The acting is top-notch and the plot, well, unbelievable. Don't believe everything you read on these review sites. This happens with book reviews on Amazon, too. If you like to be challenged, go. If you appreciate a good buy, see it. My husband and I really, really enjoyed it. |

Wrote this before, but strangely it disappeared. I wonder why. This has been forced on the unknowing for year and years now. Don't fall for it. The people who reccommend this to those on line at TKTS are actually working for this play. Even as a local, I've had this reccommended to me nearly every time I'm at TKTS, so hundreds of times through th years. The only audience this play has is unsuspecting tourists. You can ... read more do better than this. |

Crime is I went to see this! Review by: DeGiToKa, Aug 26, 2011 |
| We went to see this awful show, this was recommended by a woman at the TKTS line, I think she works for them cause she wasnt dressed in the proper attire, what a SCAM and such a bad play. Its hard to follow and in the end its not a "who dunnit" its more of a "who cares". People left at the intermission and some were even sleeping. |

Even the actors know it's bad Review by: Kate , Aug 8, 2011 |
It's a tourist trap. Don't believe the positive reviews. The play is hard to follow, and the acting, specifically Catherine Russell, is the reason. She's not even trying. Yet she will go out of her way to market to unsuspecting tourists. That's just wrong and why I'm posting this. Just stay far away. |

Good play, weak execution Review by: India Ink, Aug 6, 2011 |
Interesting to read the various reviews. I love small theater productions. This play is well-constructed by the writer, but the production shows its age in the lead actress and the direction. The veteran actress runs through her lines as though she were auditioning acting students for a play she knows backwards and forwards. She seems to forget that the audience has never seen the play before. The direction needs refreshing. The ... read more director should take a fresh look at the play as though he cared about a new audience coming in every night. When I saw it on Mother's Day, the actor playing the Inspector was clearly a fresh actor, whose actor-like performance butted-up against the audition-like reading of the lead actress. In the end, the complex conclusion of the play was not as crisp as it deserved to be. After the performance, my mother, my guests and I went to dinner and spent about eight minutes talking about the play before someone changed the subject in order to let me off the hook. I recommend a new cast, a new director, and a morale boost for the (I-can't-believe-anyone's-here) theater staff. The price is right for the theater and the play is strong. This should be a good off-broadway experience for young people and NYers to see more than once. For now, don't go. |

The Perfectly AWFUL Crime Review by: greendog, Jul 27, 2011 |
A very busy matinee day, could not get into Master Class, went over to TKTS to get something else and one of the nice young people who wander the crowd recommended The Perfect Crime. I must be loosing my hearing. She obviously recommended The Perfectly AWFUL Crime. We left at intermission. Do not waste your time or your money. Maybe there are twofers for Springtime for Hitler out there somewhere. |

MISERABLE EXEPERIENCE, THEATER PROVIDES LIMITED VISION OF STAGE, SEATS UNCOMFORTABLE Review by: David Comora, Feb 21, 2011 |
| This is the first time I've reviewed a show like this. I'm going out of my way to warn anyone who is considering this show, to reconsider. My biggest objection to this show is the theater itself. The "Snapple" Theater is located on the fourth floor of a building on 50th st. You need to take an elevator, which can only carry 6 people at at time up to the 4th floor. Otherwise you need walk up 4 flights. Once you arrive, the theater itself is ... read more in a low ceiling environment which does not allow the risers to lift up the seats to an adequate viewing position. The result is that most people wind up missing literally 3/4 of the lower portion of the stage. I was shocked that we could only really see the heads of the actors when they were standing and when they sat down...it became a radio program. It was really ridiculous and we left at intermission. Another negative is that the seats were apparently taken from a middle school auditorium as they are extremely narrow and uncomfortable. All in all, before you even get to the show, it was a miserable experience. The show itself was corny and over acted. I am shocked that this show has run 9,000 times. I can only guess that it like a parasite that feasts off of tourists who want to see a show, but are too late on the TKTS line to find tickets for a decent show. |

Great Show Review by: Nicky, Dec 14, 2010 |
| I took my wife to see this play because we wanted to see a mystery. We had a great time. It's the first play I as a man enjoyed because the acting was very realistic - it felt more like a movie than a play. Terrific ending too. |

It't not so bad Review by: mife25, Nov 15, 2010 |
This is not bad play but a very COMPLEX one. I saw it with my classmates for a theater class we're taking at college. I didn't like it at the beginning but at the end I understood all the clues and honestly, it's a smart play but not a funny one. So this is my advice if you are tourist in the city I wouldn't recommend to see it,but if your are looking for a smart play this is what your were looking for. Besides, the performers are very ... read more nice and friendly. Mife25, White Plains, NY. |
