Fantastic Show--Can't Wait to See it Again! Review by: showgirl, Mar 28, 2008 |
| This show is unlike anything I've ever seen before. It is smart, funny, poignant, and sentimental. At times I thought I was in the middle of a rock concert instead of a Broadway theater. Daniel Breaker is outstanding (and really cute) Can't wait to see it again! |

I've seen it twice and I'm looking for a chance to see it again! Review by: jc, Mar 27, 2008 |
| I've never seen a musical like Passing Strange. It was smart, edgy, funny, heartwarming and the music is just fantastic! Stew is the perfect narrator - by the end of the show you not only love him but feel like the two of you are best friends. This is the future of musicals... |

Best new broadway show this year! Review by: dwperkins, Mar 26, 2008 |
| This show should win many Tonys this year for best musical, score, libretto and best actor and supporting actor and actresses! Fresh, original, intelligent and moving anchored by the brilliant singing of STEW and wonderful performances by Dan Breaker and supporting cast. The best new show on broadway this year! SEE IT! |

A non traditional "Rock Opera" Masterpiece Review by: bubsy, Mar 25, 2008 |
Warning!!! Possible Spoilers!!! Passing Strange has an all black cast except for the musicians and it is narrated by a guy named "Stew" who wrote the story and lyrics. It is loosely an autobiography of his life story; his growing up in a middle class family in South Central Los Angeles, his struggle for what it means to be Black, his move to Amsterdam and his partaking of what that city has to offer, always searching for "family" and for his ... read more own identity. Then to Berlin during the uprising just before the wall falls, again searching for who he is. Eventually, he comes full circle and returns to his roots in LA realizing that you are who you are and you can't try to be someone you aren't. Musically, it's extraordinary... some of the best and most original music I've heard on Broadway in years. But be forwarned; it is VERY loud at times and the music is mostly hard rock. The characters are all exceptionally developed, and the story is solid. Stew (the shows writer ) is in the show as is the person who wrote the music (she is one of the musicians). The set is brilliant with the musicians rising and lowering into the stage, and actually being used in the show as actors. The young man who plays Stew's younger self is extraordinary with body language that is great. It can best be described as a Rock Opera but it's more than that. This show is brilliant. If you believe that Broadway musicals should only be like Mary Poppins or Gypsy or Chicago or anything "traditional"; than this show is not for you. But if you're open minded and are willing to experience the non-traditional (like the off-Broadway Hedwig and the Angry Inch a few years ago) then you are likely to enjoy this show. Wonderful cast, Wonderful music, Wonderful set, Wonderful story... but be warned it IS LOUD! |

A Different View Review by: Howaluna, Feb 14, 2008 |
| I saw the show last night (Feb 13). I was captured by the story line and music from the very beginning. I really liked the acting, dance, music (although sometimes to loud) and the fact that it was different (not the standard Broadway Musical). Stew along with the rest of the cast was excellent! I would recommend this show to those that want to experience something other than the standard musical. Not for Children. |

Highly entertaining, would see it again! Review by: bahamas25, Feb 13, 2008 |
| Much more than I expected! I had never heard of Stew. He is a great story teller. He narrates throughout the production so the story is easily understood. Audience was tapping and clapping to the great musical numbers.Story theme is not for children. |

NOT for everyone Review by: bklyndaddy, Feb 12, 2008 |
| just back from a preview of Passing Strange and sorry to say I hated it. The actors are indeed talented and working hard but honestly didn't know Stewies music before the show and won't be looking for it after. Didn't find it interesting enough hold an audience's interest and tonight most were not having a good time. They seem to be laughing at inappropriate times. This is an adult show with adult language. I think with the right ... read more audience the show could work. Don't think they will find their audience on Broadway. |
