Disappointing, and really cold in the theater!!! Review by: BroadwayBabySawIt, Sep 13, 2010 |
| We are big fans of Virgina Woolf, and we hoped to be further enlightened about "Orlando" by seeing this show, but this was not the case. It's interesting to see a woman playing a man, but here, not interesting to see a man playing a woman - how many times do we have to see Elizabeth I played badly by a man? Trying to make her into a drag queen is college humor, and nothing more. The lead actress tries hard, and has an unnecesary nude scene ... read more to get through at the end of Act I - do we really need this in 2010? Not if you really know what you are doing, and this writer and director do not. The main problem is the bad adaptation of Woolf's story. We hated "The other room" because it was just not well written, and had we realized that it was the same writer, we would not have gone to see this. Too much exposition, exposition, exposition - not enough dialogue - and so they keep the small cast moving all the time, almost linedancing, to try to bring life to it, but no go. A disappointing evening. PS If you do go, bring a coat or a blanket because although this is a small theater, it is icebox cold, and if you fall asleep (as some will), you may get hypothermia. |
