| This show should really not be classified as "Opera". The plot is corny, and hackneyed...... choreography was very out-of-date for that matter. Unfortunately, the style of this re-do was not satisfying, or exciting. "Hats Off" to Paul Sorvino and the female lead.... Both are neophytes to Lincoln Center with excellent voices. Paul Sorvino's Italian accent was quite convincing! A must-see for the 80+ crowd. |

I RATE THIS AS A C+. IT'S JUST OK. THE SCORE HAS ONLY A FEW HIT NUMBERS, AND MOST OF IT IS TRITE AND DULL. THERE WAS LITTLE DANCING -- ONLY A FEW GOOD NUMBERS, AND THE LAUGHS WERE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. I FOUND THE STORY LINE TO BE A SILLY SOAP OPERA -- A BIT EMBARASSING AT TIMES.
PAUL SORVINO DID HIS BEST BUT HIS VOICE WAS OFTEN WEAK AND SHAKY. I THOUGHT HE SHOWED AWKWARD, UNCOMFORTABLE MOMENTS, AND COULD NOT HOLD HIS OWN ... read more WITH THE OTHER SEASONED BROADWAY CAST MEMBERS WHO ALL HAVE THAT BIGGER THAN LIFE BROADWAY DEMEANOR. SORVINO, I THINK, SHOULD STICK TO FILM. NEVERTHELESS, FOR HIS EFFORTS, HE DESERVES AN A. I JUST THINK HIS MEDIUM SHOULD REMAIN FILM -- WHERE HE SHINES.
IF YOU HAVE SPARE TIME AND MONEY, YOU MIGHT GO SEE THIS, BUT IF NOT, SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR SOMETHING BETTER.
