Not for everyone! Review by: Keeping It Real, Feb 20, 2013 |
If you are a Christian stay clear of this show. They actually make a joke about the type of nails that were used in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ while showing a graphic on a large screen center stage. The punch line and follow-up graphic which shows Jesus face down in the dirt was horrific. There is also a vile joke about Mother Theresa. There are however no jokes about the Holocaust. Perhaps the crucifixion of Christ and Mother Theresa ... read more should also be off limits.

Take my seat ... please! Review by: DoctorJoeE, Feb 19, 2013 |
So this guy gets home early one afternoon, and finds his wife in bed with his accountant. "Milton!" he shrieks. "I HAVE to sleep with her ... but YOU?" If this is your kind of humor, this is your kind of show. But if you're a Jew of a certain age, you've heard every joke a hundred times already. Personally, I never thought the Borscht Belt guys were that funny to begin with - any more than their Italian compatriots on the "Minestrone ... read more Circuit" - except for Buddy Hackett and Shelly Berman and a few others whose talent transcended the ethnic cliches, and vaulted them to success in the real world. I completely understood why all those Catskills hotels shriveled up and died, one by one, and good riddance. And there's nothing really innovative about assembling a couple of hundred old Jew jokes; Milton Berle did it, in book form, decades ago. But there's admittedly a significant historical and nostalgic aspect to this project; and if you're young enough to be curious about the atmosphere at Grossinger's or the Nevele in 1955 - or you're old enough to have forgotten - then by all means, ladies and germs, buy some tickets. And take your wife ... please! |

A laugh a minute! Review by: Susan W, Aug 19, 2012 |
| Lots of very funny jokes, some of them R rated so don't take the kiddies. You'll laugh from beginning to end and wish it wasn't over yet. You don't have to be Jewish to love this show. |

Hilarious entertainment Review by: Alan, May 31, 2012 |
| Did you ever hear a joke, even a one liner, and say to yourself, "I just HAVE to remember that one"? Well, in "Old Jews Telling Jokes" there about 80 like that, and just as you finish trying to remember one you're being assaulted (in the best possible way) with the next, like machine gun fire that kept many in the audience (including the obviously gentile woman from the UK who was sitting next to me) literally doubled over in laughter. My ... read more wife, who has a great sense of humor but for whom laughing out loud does not come easily was guffawing throughout. It's just that kind of experience. The show was perfectly cast, and they delivered with precision timing and warmth, even when telling jokes with some words that you might not be used to hearing outside of a locker room. (And just seeing Marilyn Sokul as a sheep in heat while acting out one of the jokes was worth the price of admission.) My only regret is that some critics seem to feel the need to recount so many of the jokes from the show. Those reviews should have come with spoiler alerts, except that even when you know the jokes (and most of the audience will know a good number) seeing them acted out the way they were and told by such professionals renders them funny redux. If you like to laugh, this is the show to see, and if you don't, maybe you will after seeing this show. |
