Nathan Lane is tops. Review by: ron2putt, Feb 5, 2008 |
| Great performance by Nathan Lane. As others wrote could have used the "F" word less and it would have been just as good, but worth seeing. |

Very funny Review by: Terry, Jan 28, 2008 |
The show is a bit over the top, but it had me laughing out loud the entire time. Very timely, the "f" bomb used a bit too much and I am no prude, but it makes its points. I enjoyed it, and the performers were excellent. |

cartoonist's idea of a show Review by: bkmom, Jan 24, 2008 |
| i was not surprised to read that david mamet (show's author) is a cartoonist. the show is really one big characature of politicians we love to hate with many other tired cliches thrown in for good measure. there were a few good laughs and nathan lane works very hard to get them. in all, the show was just "ok". |

A Good Time! Review by: BigKen, Jan 24, 2008 |
| Despite overusing the "F" word, the show was totally entertaining. Like John Wayne, Nathan Lane was himself. But like many of the John Wayne Westerns, this was a perfect show for Nathan Lane. He was great! And so was everyone else. It was perfectly casted. I tried to guess the ending, but did not have enough time. I would recommend this show to anyone who wants to laugh and enjoy themselves. |

Surprise enjoyment Review by: , Jan 22, 2008 |
| The show was hysterical! Laughed the entire time! Get over the f-words and offensive one-liners, and just enjoy the fast forward laughs. Nathan Lane and Dylan are an incredible team. Quite a surprise enjoyment. |

Save your money Review by: John, Jan 21, 2008 |
| It was terrible. Every other word was a swear, relying on cheap laughs. Nathan Lane's character offended most every group I can think of. I did think the acting was good, but the script was terrible. See "Farnsworth Invention" instead. |

November leaves me cold Review by: theatreguy, Jan 21, 2008 |
| While there were some good laughs, fun political barbs, good acting, and Nathan Lane's timing is impeccable, the show was unfulfilling. It was like a Saturday Night Live sketch, dragged out into a full-length play, which deterioriated into unrealistic silliness in the end. The plot was too simple for a good farce; the characters were 2-dimensional; and the play had little substance to keep my interest through the end. ... read more This was Mamet's ill-fated attempt at sit-com, and not worthy of Broadway. |

Don't Waste Your Money On "November"!! Review by: ShowLover, Jan 21, 2008 |
| Unfortunately I do NOT agree with the other reviewers about the new play “November” by Mamet. I think Nathan Lane is one of the finest actors we have, but this play was extremely lacking in entertainment. I have been to more Broadway shows then I can count over the years, but this is definitely up there with one of the worst I’ve ever seen. I kept looking at my watch to see how much longer I was going to have to endure, but I stuck it out ... read more to the end thinking “it’s got to get better” – it didn’t!! The “F” word was used for every other word and it was completely unnecessary to do so. The other actors, who are just as talented as Lane, did their parts to try to make this play work; however, even with the best cast you can’t make this play something I would recommend to anyone. I hope that Lane and the rest of the cast move on to something more worthy of their talents. I most likely will not attend another Mamet show so I can save my money for more talented play writes. I completely feel ripped off for my ticket price and suggest you skip this show. |

Don't miss this! Review by: Penngirl, Jan 15, 2008 |
| Absolutely one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. Laughed out loud the entire time. Thought it ended a little abruptly, but overall a fantastic show. Not for the faint of heart in the cursing department. Go and enjoy another Nathan Lane experience! |

A fun show! Review by: Jacki, Jan 13, 2008 |
| Why did I like the show? I laughed so hard that I missed some of the jokes! I would love to see it again. This is a timely, funny show. Go for it but leave the kids at home. Every other word was the "F" word. Nathan Lane's timing is superb. |

Funny! Nathan Lane does a fantastic job! Review by: Elizabeth, Jan 10, 2008 |
| Saw it on January 9th. Nathan Lane is great!! You will laugh throughout the entire play. OK---they say the "F" word a few too many times and ton's of the jokes are not politically correct, but everyone in the audience seemed to love it. It wasn't that long either. We were out by 9:50. Go, enjoy it. |

November Review by: Tom Bestor, Jan 2, 2008 |
David Mamet’s latest, which takes place entirely within the Oval Office, is sort of a cross between his own “Wag The Dog” and “South Park,” resulting in an offspring that resembles a “Doonesbury”-like comic strip brought to life.
If you’re expecting Aaron Sorkin-like attempts at verisimilitude in recreating the inner workings of the halls of power, you’re on line for the wrong show. “November” is satirical farce, giving us a president ... read more of unprecedented venality and stupefying ignorance, combined with an unquenchable lust for power and money. With Nathan Lane as president Charles Smith, we get a glimpse of what the world might be like if crooked producer Max Bialystock were given the keys to the White House.
In lesser hands than Mamet’s, “November” could easily devolve into a cheap frat skit, taking potshots at easy political prey. But thanks to Mamet’s talents (he’s long been one of my favorite writers), “November” succeeds on two levels: it makes us laugh, and it makes us despair at the thought that the men and women who ascend to positions of power – though not nearly as funny as the characters here – are probably no less venal, and perhaps even more so.
The story takes place during the closing days of a presidential election. President Smith is way behind in the polls, and his party (he is never identified as either Republican of Democrat) has given up even trying to win. Smith is being encouraged to accept the coming defeat and slip off quietly into the sunset. His lawyer (Dylan Baker, showing brilliant comic chops) has to repeatedly remind Smith that the country hates him and wants him out of office as soon as possible. “Why?” Smith asks. “Because you fucked up everything you touched,” his henchman replies – to sustained applause from the audience at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
Unfortunately, Smith is so broke that his presidential library fund has only $4000, and he is advised that if he can’t win the election, he can at least sell a few pardons.
I won’t delve much deeper here, because Mamet is a great storyteller and there are several wonderful surprises in “November,” but I will tell you it involves the pardon of Thanksgiving turkeys, a lesbian speechwriter (a wonderful turn from Laurie Metcalf, best-known for her work on “Roseanne”), same-sex marriage, Indian casinos, rumors of Iranian missile strikes and lots and lots of swearing.
The show is in previews and could use a bit of tweaking, but overall it’s a wonderfully entertaining night of theater. If only I could get over the nagging thought that, despite its farcical nature, it’s much closer to the truth than any of us would wish it to be.

We're buying tickets for our business associate it was so good. Review by: Debbie, Dec 28, 2007 |
| Excellent. We saw this last night 12/27. Nathan Lane was wonderful, as were Laurie Metcalf (from The Rosanne Show) and Dylan Baker. A must see. Hilarous. Very entertaining. I was scared going in not reading any reviews, and i never give my review, but after seeing it i had to tell anyone debating getting tickets, it is a must see. |
