Nothing To Compare It With Review by: Transported, Apr 21, 2012 |
| I saw this tonight. These wildly mixed reviews seem understandable because it seems like a whole new way of storytelling to me. I was transported into a new world and a new type of theater. I was taken in by the experience and have been thinking about it ever since. I'm not sure I've experienced anything like it. The tone and pacing were so meticulous and well-observed like a documentary but with heart and pain and humor and truth. And the ... read more cast and the set were amazing. I'm still thinking about it and trying to figure out why I was so affected by it. But I can't deny that I was. It's a unique and powerful experience. |

ENTIRELY MISGUIDED Review by: JJ, Apr 21, 2012 |
| "Time crawls to a dead stop as you watch “Ninth and Joanie,” a stupefyingly dull drama by Brett C. Leonard presented by the increasingly rudderless Labyrinth Theater Company at the Bank Street Theater. The actual presence of a kitchen sink might enliven Mr. Leonard’s kitchen-sink drama about an Italian-American father and son immured in grief in South Philadelphia. Watching the slow drip of a leaky faucet for two hours would be more entertaining ... read more than this misguided production, directed with ponderous indulgence by Mark Wing-Davey." |

Powerful Review by: Jerod B. , Apr 17, 2012 |
| I saw this earlier tonight. It's a must see in my opinion. A powerful, moving, almost meditative night in the theatre. Dark and disturbing and slowly paced it reminded me of some of my favorite films. It has a truth about it that pulled me in as though I was a fly on the wall watching a family I didn't want to watch, but somehow couldn't stop thinking about the undeniable similarities to my own family. It's specific to this very specific world ... read more yet somehow felt universal to me. And this family in the play is Italian Catholics from Philadelphia, whereas I'm a Southern Baptist from Houston. Very powerful. |

APPAULING Review by: mox, Apr 16, 2012 |
| At intermission some left and I stayed. Big Mistake. I should have headed for the exit sign. I didn't mind that this was another dysfunctional family on stage but we didn't get any insight into this tribe or understand their behavior or were even mildly entertained by their self destruction antics. I felt nothing for any of them because they were all unsympathetic. However, we heard Vic Damone singing on an LP and that was by far the most ... read more enertaining thing about this mis-adventure. |

So Depressing Review by: Marvina, Apr 16, 2012 |
| Nobody spoke for 15 minutes in the first act. Worst play I ever saw.Very little happened in the first act. Very little happened in the second act. Whatever happened was so depressing.Didn't have empathy for any of the characters. Save your money |

Recommend Review by: Terrell, Apr 15, 2012 |
| Powerful and moving night of theater. Deeply disturbing. Seemed like real life but with a challenging and captivating storyline too. I'm not sure why the two people who posted below said nothing happened - a lot happened. Highly recommend. |

WASTE OF TIME Review by: Bop, Apr 13, 2012 |
| Nothing happens in half of the first act. Nothing happens in the second act. The actors never took a curtain call. If you want to waste 2 hours of your life - then go for it. This was a dull evening. |

NOT A MUST SEE Review by: Walk, Apr 12, 2012 |
| Save your time and money and see something good. This was a waste. It amazes me how a theater company like this could actually produce and get behind a play this bad. |
