Nice Show If You Want To See It ! Review by: Diract 66, Mar 19, 2013 |
| Nice old fashion musical in the mold of 'Guys and Dolls' hits broadway and makes for a pleasant evening of musical theatre. The star of the show is Matthew Broderick, playing a variation of the same character he's perfected in movies and Broadway for years, and without him I don't think this show would last that long. He carries the show but the supporting characters are great! Kelli O'Hara, of course, brings her warm personality and beautiful ... read more voice to the show. Judy Kaye has a great drunk scene swinging from a chandelier. In fact this whole scene is funny. Chris Sullivan and especially Robyn Hurder, who steals every scene she is in, are a very funny mis-matched couple. By the way, if you're looking for Blythe Danner, don't hold your breath, she'll show up but it's a long wait. The real talent of this show is the George and Ira Gershwin songs, although sometimes forced into scenes, they still sound great and you wish there were songs like this today, in our musicals. An old type musical, still running on Broadway, and people and families flocking to still see it. Many sets, chorus girls, great humor, and a fun time. See it if you can! |

Great entertainment for Broadway musical lovers and an excellent family show. Review by: britishracer, Mar 10, 2013 |
| I took my family to this musical on Tuesday March 5th. First Broadway musical for my children and an adult couple accompanying us. Loved the Empire Theatre, nice and old style. Seats were comfortable. Live orchestra was excellent. The musical itself is very entertaining, actors and dancers top notch. If you love Gershwin songs, and great musical performance do not miss this musical. The actor playing the bootlegger/fake butler stole the show. |

Good acting and choreography save idiotic plot Review by: , Feb 26, 2013 |
| I saw the show on Sunday because I love Gershwin's music. I caught myself thinking - this is insane: the plot is stupid, but you are enjoying the show. That was thanks to excellent choreography by Kathleen Marshall and good acting and singing by supporting cast members. Matthew Broderick is now too fat and slow-moving for his part in the show though you have to admit that he was trying his best. |

Pure Entertainment Review by: JW, Feb 9, 2013 |
| Very entertaining show helmed by super-talented performers. Zany, hilarious plot right out of the 1930s combined with the exceptional Gershwin score make this a must-see. |

Nice Work, Nice Work! Review by: NiceWorkReview, Nov 10, 2012 |
Great show, go see it. The cast is perfect - Matthew Broderick, Kelli O'Hara, Judy Kaye, Jennifer Laura Thompson. This is the one show that you can say literally the entire cast is good. No complaints. Everyone can sing, act, and dance. The show was original, creative, old-fashioned, delightful. Nice score and sets. I met Matthew Broderick at the stagedoor and got a picture and autograph. |

It Would Have Been Nicer Work if... Review by: dear theatergoer, Aug 26, 2012 |
NW entertains its audience, especially the elderly ones, but the production really needed more fine tuning, especially with its dismal book. Yes, it was supposed to be a throwback to those dim-witted light romantic musical comedies of yesteryear, but laughs were sparse and the story non-existent. The plusses: Great costumes and set, good lighting. The cast was energetic, especially Tony winners Kaye and McGrath. Kelli O'Hara was in fine ... read more voice, but her part was sketchy at best. Will Smith (subbing for Broderick ) added much to his underwritten role too, esp. in the vocal department. His dancing was good, but he needed to play up the humor more. ( I can't picture MB doing justice to this part and we were glad to see his replacement in the lead role. ) Also, the orchestration and harmonies were outstanding. The minuses: Kathleen Marshall's direction was of the hit-or-miss variety with some nicely staged moments and others that were forced and sluggish. Her choreography was standard fare; she could have thrown in some tap numbers to invigorate the show. The Gershwin songs seemed strung together just to push the plot with no real "wow" moments in the whole show. ( Kelli's But No for Me could have been a stand-out, if it were used differently in the production, as would her rendition of Someone to Watch Over Me. Major missteps by the director. ) Subplots in the story seem to halt the action rather than advance it. Oh, and did I mention that horrible book? MY GRADE: B- |

A fun musical! Review by: jessica2, Aug 13, 2012 |
We loved this show. The songs are classic Gershwin songs that make you want to sing along.. Matthew Broderick was really good, he sang well and danced well too! the character suits him. The story is a funny comedy, with lots of jokes and surprising moments :) We had great seats in center Mezzanine using the Broadwaybox discount. This is a wonderful Broadway musical, you will really enjoy it! |

Craptastic! Two Hours I Can Never Get Back Review by: Gymdandy, Aug 11, 2012 |
| This was a dreadful show. Kelli O'Hara's replacement Erin Dilly was ok, but the show lacked any sort of excitement or charm. I enjoyed Matthew Broderick's performance, and the rest of the cast tried, but the show was a snoozefest. The classic songs did not go very well with the action on stage. The sets and costumes were nothing special. As an avid theatergoer I expect more for the money I am paying. |

Craptastic! Two Hours I Can Never Get Back Review by: Gymdandy, Aug 5, 2012 |
| This show was snooze! Kelli O'Hara was on vacation and her replacement, Erin Dilly was passable, but lacked any sort of star quality that O'Hara possesses. I thought Matthew Broderick was good. He was charming and funny. Too bad the show lacked any kind of charm. The by-the-numbers, fluffy plot lacked any type of clever dialogue and the classic songs seemed out of place with the action on stage. The supporting characters were ... read more annoying not funny. The sets and costumes looked like they belonged in a high school production. I see a lot of Broadway shows and this ranks up there with the worst of them. Broadway is an expensive experience for theatergoers and we expect to be entertained not bored for 2 hours! |

It's a lot of fun Review by: Legs, Jul 12, 2012 |
| Charming! A thin plot, to say the least, but nonetheless fun. If you enjoy this wonderful music, think Matthew B. is adorable and treasure the feel of an old time musical, run, don't walk to the Imperial Theatre. Judy Kaye and Michael McGrath are priceless! |
