Seize the Day! Review by: MattLumes327, May 21, 2012 |
GREAT SHOW! I've seen quite a few musicals and I have not seen a show with this much talent, charisma, and energy on the stage and that energy transfers into the audience. Applause went on several minutes after almost every song. I am by no means a dancer, but this show made me want to take a dance class. The Choreography was INTENSE. Jeremy Jordan definitely has the IT factor. He commands the stage and is so into every single moment. As ... read more a whole, NEWSIES is a great ensemble piece. It was great to see a piece where the ensemble really is the driving force of the entire show. |

Pure energy and just plain fun! Can't wait to see it again! Review by: littleray68, Apr 14, 2012 |
| I have never seen the Newsies movie so I can't compare it to the stage version. However, as a professional theatre person it takes a lot to impress me and pull me into the story. Newsies does just that. I loved all of the dancing-after all it is a musical so it is to be expected. The music was great as well-especially the ballad "Something to Believe In." The technical elements were also very impressive yet not as complex as most Disney shows. I ... read more liked the simplicity of the set. I was surrounded by a range of people who all enjoyed the show trememendously-young to old. I am going back to see it next month and would recommend it to anyone who wants a great musical to see. |

Dance 10 ,Show 5 Review by: rskblueyes, Apr 12, 2012 |
This show has probally had the biggest hype of all the musicals this season. Disney fueled this hype by intially making this show a very limited run to increase the ticket demand. Anyway, went into to the show not knowing much as I had never seen the original movie.. So had no expectations.. The staging, use of set and choregraphy are what makes this standout. Without these 3 factors the show would be one big snooze,... read more, I found the dancing very athletic and energizing, even though at times you fell like the moves are somewhat repetitive.. The music very tunefull, and the female lead was given 2 great ballads. The newsie boys all danced great and at my performance had all the teen age girls screaming. Jeremey Jackson was very good and has a great voice, but in my opinion I found him better in Bonnie and Clyde earlier in the season. This show is a typical Disney crowd pleaser, big numbers, but scratch a bit below the surface and there is not much there. if you have young children and teens, this will be the show you can take them to and they will enjoy. |

Dancing great. Singing great. Kinda boring. Review by: Patti126, Apr 5, 2012 |
| I was so excited to see Newsies last night and was kinda disappointed. The dancing was great, the singing was great, and some of the performers were really incredible. HOWEVER, the story involving the girl reporter was quite unbelievable and boring whenever she came on stage. And when the other adults were on stage - boring as well. The people I was with had the same opinion. Great dancing, great singing but not so exciting. I am glad I saw it ... read more with a huge discount. I would have not been happy at all if I paid full price. |

Exceeded my movie loving expectations! Review by: Jaimie, Mar 29, 2012 |
| I am a huge fan of the movie and knew that I had very high expectations. I also knew that there was a big possibility of being disappointed since I have been waiting about ten years for this movie to make it's way to Broadway. My expectations were far exceeded. The dancing, singing, and set were phenomenal. My attention was held the entire time and I could not stop smiling. The audience was so engaged and the actors seemed ... read more to genuinely enjoy everything they were doing. The edits and additions to the story only enhanced the show. I want to see this again and I again. I cannot believe that someone found the dancing to be "too much" and the use of repetitive melodies to be "annoying." Everyone sitting around me said it was one of the best shows they had ever seen. Also the accents were exactly the way they were in the movie- not Boston-esque. I can't explain how incredible it was! GO GO GO! |

The Show is about the Dancing . . . Review by: Chris, Mar 25, 2012 |
I saw Newsies on March 25, 2012. Here are a few thoughts. First, the set design and lighting design are top rate -- I think that is the first thing that everyone will see about this show. Costumes are ill-fitting. Second, there is a lot of dancing in this show - a distracting amount of dancing. (I understand that the choreographer did a fantastic job with synchronized dancing, but, it seems like the show throws in a dance number ... read more whenever it has nothing to say.) Third, the musical is set in 1899 NY City. But, the accents used by the actors sound more like South Boston. The actors should just ignore the accents. Fourth, you will note that one actor in the cast is truly terrible -- poor stage presence an an incredibly weak voice. Fortunately, he only sings one time. I will let each of you watch the show, but it will be readily apparent to all of you who the weakest link is. Fifth, there are some melodies in this show that repeat over and over again. It gets annoying. Finally, if you are a big fan of the movie, please know that the broadway show is slightly different from the movie. Also, remember that most of the actors in this show are dancers, so just appreciate their dancing abilities and leave it at that. |
