Wonderful time Review by: radio, Dec 26, 2012 |
| I took my 8 year old to this show and we both loved it. The songs are very good and the dancing is excellent. No it doesn't have a whole lot of character development but I can't imagine a child not loving this as much as we did. |

electrifying choreography but lacked heart that the movie had/would go again tho Review by: suzy, Sep 24, 2012 |
| loved the show for the choreography, music and energy, but thought that the changes, e.g., eliminating the family of the two boys and their sister, took away from the "heart" of the story...that family in the movie was an effective way to expose jack to a loving family...and making the love interest the same character as the reporter made no sense...the beauty of the true story about workers' rights got a bit lost in the show; it was ... read more more evident in the movie...also, the boys all seemed a lot older than they were supposed to be...still, i would go again just for the music and dancing...very exciting! |

| Newsies was amazing! We enjoyed every second of it... The actors were talented, the dancing and choreography were excellent, the songs were catchy, and the stage was perfectly designed for the show. Go see it!! |

All Copy and No Warmth Review by: Piwacket, Aug 29, 2012 |
| The opening number "Santa Fe" is about the only thing that made me say I want more but never got it. The dancing is high energy and fun but after 15 minutes it becomes repetitive and obnoxious. Can't recall any other number. Zero chemistry with love story. Cannot tell you how many times I caught myself rolling my eyes. I am a sucker for corn but this is just bad. If you want some warmth, emotion and intelligence go see "Once". |

Good for Kids, not so much for Adults Review by: sandybeach, Aug 26, 2012 |
| While my 11 year old enjoyed the show a lot, I was underwhelmed. The sets and lighting were pretty good and the dancing was energetic and entertaining at first (and it is truly a thrill to see a group of young men dancing up a storm like this) but the choreography got boring and repetitive pretty quickly. The story was light and uninteresting and the characters were all one-dimensional stereotypes. I also found the songs unappealing -- not ... read more very tuneful. But the worse part was the role of the girl reporter and her relationship with the lead character -- the storyline was stupid and contrived, she was a bad choice for the part, and there was no chemistry between the two of them. It wasn't painful to watch, but it could have been a whole lot better if Disney didn't do such a paint-by-numbers job with it. |

Now is the time to SEIZE THE OPPURTUNITY TO GET TICKETS! Review by: Newsies!FanGirl, Aug 20, 2012 |
| Go see this. This musical was literally just too much fun. I didn't want it to end! I was so dissapointed at intermission and at curtain because I wanted to watch MORE! The whole cast is talented, the choreography, book, score, sets, and costumes were amazing. Jeremy Jordan was a terrific Jack Kelly. The whole cast is also very friendly at stagedoor. You could tell they were having fun on stage and were having a great time themselves. By the way,... read more, even though the musical is produced by Disney, I would say this show is for ages 12 and up. (Some of the language is a little questionable for small children.) |

Great show, very entertaining! Review by: Bethany S, Jul 30, 2012 |
| This show is full of energy, the dancing, acting and singing is fantastic. The show was very entertaining. Would not be very entertaining for someone under 10, the concepts would go over their heads. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a Broadway show to see! We entered the lottery and got very decent seats for $30! |

Great Music, Outstanding Dancing, Superb Lead Actor! Review by: Kerry, Jul 16, 2012 |
| Went to see Newsies on July 5th without a lot of preconceived notions. I had not seen the movie and knew very little about the storyline. I was absolutely blown away. Every musical number was full of incredibly full harmony and the dancing was outstanding. The energy in the theatre was unbelievable. Long ovations that the cast had to wait multiple times to begin again. Jeremy Jordan as the lead was completely compelling. His acting, not ... read more to mention his singing, was certainly worthy of a Tony award. I predict he will become a superstar on Broadway (if he's not already). I have seen 10-15 shows on Broadway including Phantom, Les Miz, Legally Blonde, Hairspray, Spiderman, Beauty and the Beast, etc. and this has instantly become one of my favorites. Go see it!!! |

Newsies! Review by: bluewind, Jul 9, 2012 |
| As a regular theater goer I thought the Newsies was average when it comes to musicals. The entire cast is extremely talented, especially Jeremy Jordan. The set and choreography were also amazing as well. However, I found the show slightly boring. Half of the songs are unmemorable and some of the characters way too typical (but that's what you get with Disney). Overall, it is entertaining but not the most brilliant show ever produced. |

it hews closely to the Disney brand Review by: Tom Bestor, Jun 10, 2012 |
In my professional life, I spend a fair bit of time dealing with branding. Not the scars burned into livestock to establish ownership - though that is the etymology of "branding" in the modern sense - but branding in the sense of establishing and maintaining an image for a product or service or organization. Great brands reinforce themselves over time: Coke is about refreshment, Apple about design and user experience, Honda is about ... read more reliability and efficiency. Disney has long been one of the most respected brands in the world, building their reputation on their ability to deliver happiness. Disney theme parks are branded as "The Happiest Places on Earth," and if you can find a Disney-produced movie with anything other than a happy ending, I'd like to hear about it. In the 90s, Disney branched out into Broadway musicals, beginning with "Beauty and the Beast," then adding the wildly-successful 'The Lion King," "Mary Poppins," "Aida," "Tarzan" and others, winning multiple Tony awards along the way. Disney's most recent Broadway effort is another Tony-nominated show, "Newsies," based on the 1992 film of the same name. And it hews closely to the Disney brand, attempting to spread happiness at every possible turn. The story is vintage Disney: scrappy kids fighting a great power, a love interest between a princess (in this case, the fetching daughter of famed publisher Joseph Pulitzer) and a commoner (the newsboy), evil henchmen, a wacky sidekick, life lessons and ultimately triumph by curtain time. It's a proven formula - but as we all know, following formulas usually leads to results that are, well, formulaic. That's certainly the case here. Though the production values are high (the set, in particular, was stunning), the sense of soul is non-existent. The performers are talented and earnest, but there's no sense of sincerity behind what makes it to the stage. There was never a moment where I heard a clever lyric, and really only one interesting turn in the story. "Newsies" is loud (especially the dancing) and bright and cheerful, but ultimately empty. Which, unfortunately, is right on brand for most of what Disney has produced in recent decades. (Save for Pixar. In fact, what "Newsies" needs is a heaping helping of Pixardust!)

Audience is Wild about Newsies Review by: Deb, Jun 8, 2012 |
| The talent and energy by the cast of Newsies was amazing! The audience loved it and cheered and clapped through out the performance!Jeremy Jordan will be a super star as he has it all, talent, voice and looks! Kara Lindsay pulled off sweet innocence and saucy at the same time. Ben Frankhauser and Andrew Keenan-Bolger were the perfect side kicks, energetic angry and lovable! The dancing and choreography was challenging allowing the boys to show ... read more off their skills and they audience was entranced! A real "feel good" show that makes you believe in the roots of this country! The little guy triumphs over money and power! Wow! |

A good night of entertainment Review by: Peter, May 23, 2012 |
| Not being familiar with the movie, I went as an avid theater goer but I was a little disappointed. The story is good, and there are moments in the choreography which are outstanding. The leads are all fine and the music is a good one. It entertains, but it does not rise to the moment of an outstanding musical. If you like the movie, go see the show. My brother and his family loved it and they are big fans. If you are not familiar ... read more with the amovie, then go if you have a chance. It is a good show. It is just not a great show which bowls you over. |
