For Stand up comedy lovers only Review by: Tish, Jul 30, 2007 |
| If you like stand up comedy, then by all means, go see this show. If, however, you are looking for a play with a cast of more than one and a story line, then run the other way. This is a one man show and is nothing but jokes organinzed around this man's family. While it does tell a sort of a story of his life, it's reliance on joke after joke after joke is tiresome and disappointing. |

Time worn, tired cliches - can I get a minute of originality here already? Review by: LorrieBGood, Jul 15, 2007 |
| What a cleverly crafted title this play possesses. If you are thinking this play will be full of referrals to what is familiar to you (and probably the reason you gravitated toward this play,) or perhaps peppered with those fondly remembered foreign words you grew up with, you will be sorely disappointed. Instead, what we felt when seeing this play on 7/14/07 was a thinly veiled and disguised circumvented route to any direction toward ethnic ... read more flavor or value. This should be termed a one-man show, but you will rarely see any referrals to that genre of entertainment. Throughout this excruciating hour and a half, I whispered to my husband that I felt that I was doing little more than having my email read to me--the emails that I have received over and over and over again from my elderly uncles and cousins of forwarded "jokes" that you never thought were funny in the first place, now being played before you in the comfort of a cute little theater called the Westside. Time worn and cliched, and with only a smattering of a chuckle you might squeeze out if perhaps a glimmer of something original pops up (I mean, seriously...how many times are you going to laugh at the mistaken "lebanese" when they meant "lesbian" already?) you can safely skip this play unless you upwards of 75 years old and don't get out too much. I said to my husband that we really need to get cracking on writing a play ourselves if this is what people are clamoring for. Thank God at least we did a half price matinee. |

See a different show..... Review by: NY_Visitor, Jun 11, 2007 |
| While this show was mildly entertaining, there are better options. Personally, I considered this a waste of $90. Laughed maybe twice. Some older people in the (lightly attended Sat afternoon show) were laughing more. Many recycled jokes you proabably heard before. It's not bad show, I just wouldn't call it a good show. After 10 mins I thought "this will get better" -after 90 mins it never did. You might laugh, you might not. With so many ... read more options in NY, I wouldn't take the chance. See something else. I also saw MamaMia, and I Love You, your perfect, now change in prior visits to NY. I can recommend either of those...good shows. |

Review by: Elaine, Mar 20, 2007 |
| Third-rate and not funny. Would be good for very old senior citizens in a nursing home. Full of toilet humor..what is funny about that? This shows doesn't deserve to be worthy of being off-Broadway. We would have walked out but we paid so much for the tix at the TKTS booth that we were forced to stay and figure out why anyone would book this guy for New York. Would have been better off at home watching reruns. This isn't a show: it's one guy who ... read more thinks he is funny doing a Catskills act. Sorry, Steve, nice try but it was boring. Every single "joke" or gag or story was a retread of something you've heard elsewhere from old comics. |

It Kept Us Laughing Review by: Kimz11, Feb 7, 2007 |
| My husband and I received tickets as a gift. The show was great. Very funny and entertaining. Yes, some of the jokes I had heard before; however, there was plenty of other jokes to keep the show going. It was a pleasant night out for the both of us. Would high recommend it, especially if you are Italian or Jewish. |

Very entertaining - a laid back and touching comedy with appeal for most Review by: Trisha , Jan 22, 2007 |
| I read the reviews and expected a boring, canned show. Maybe I am a boring, canned person but this show had me cracking up for at least 2/3 of the monologue! I went with my hubby who knows more Italians than Jews, and Me, vice versa! Hubby thought it was hilarious too! From the audience makeup it was clear this show was drawing a hugely diverse crowd! That made it even more fun! Steve was so personable and REAL! What a great time. I would ... read more HIGHLY recommend this show! THEN you have to go to Mulberry street fora soma nice meataballs! |

I wanted to walk out... Review by: KS, Jan 19, 2007 |
During the first 10 minutes, we almost walked out. I am the product of a "mixed marriage" between a Jew and a WASP so I entered preparing to be entertained.
However, while this is definitely a show that pokes gentle, predominately complimentary fun at Jews and Italians, it propagates offensive racist stereotypes at people who wear turbans and generally practice religious other than Christian and Judaism. Apparently ... read more they are all terrorists in his mind. As a white American with an Indian boyfriend, I was humiliated by both the racist propaganda spewed by the star and with the reaction of the 99% white audience. It was notable that the only people not laughing were people of color and their friends.

Only if you get it cheap Review by: Jaye, Jan 18, 2007 |
| I only went to see this show cause it was a Christmas present. It was just ok. Certainly not worth a price tag of $70. If it was $25 I would say ok.. I have to say most of the crowd was older, as were some of the jokes. It's not a bad show, Steve was good, but not the caliber of NYC entertainment, Off-Broadway. I can see it being great in Florida, where he started out showcasing this show. But not really beyond that venue. But he ... read more really seems like a great guy. |

NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED, WHAT A LET DOWN Review by: , Jan 10, 2007 |
| My girlfriends and I went for my birthday and we were expecting to roll with laughter. Instead we got a one man show surrounded by elderly people. There was very few laughs and alot of going to the bathroom just to get away. We expected a whole family feud. |

A sweet evening of good laughs , even if they were predictable Review by: nick, Dec 5, 2006 |
| 90 minutes of good clean humor, nicel orchestrated ine man show. Lots of old or predictable jokes or pnch lines but over all, a nice evening of good humor and good acting. Connects well with the audience and the show just flew by. Mixed reactions from the audience, for the most part everyone laughed at the same places, nothing that will have you in stiches however. But certainly entertaining. He does such a nice meet and great at the end ... read more of a show. |

Italian? Jewish? Not nesscary, it's fun for all!!! Review by: Pat from Toronto, Ontario, Nov 12, 2006 |
You don't need to be Italian or Jewish to watch Steve Solomon's one-man show. He's hilarious!!! Steve Solomon's impersonations and voices had the audience "in stitches". The show had us laughing so much that the 90 minutes flew by. We went to watch "Chicago" the evening before (for double the price) but enjoyed this show MUCH better!! A must-see if you enjoy a good laugh!! |
