SAVE YOUR MONEY, STAY HOME Review by: Normally Love Comedy, Aug 17, 2012 |
| Stay Home. My guess, doing anything besides going to this show, would be more fun. If you ever attended middle school where there were boys, then you have heard every joke in this show. Out of respect to the few people who laughed at some of the jokes, it kept me from yelling out the punch lines, which I remember from grade school and middle school. My wife and I have been to a lot of plays, and last night just happen to be my 65th birthday, ... read more so it was going to be a fun night out. WRONG!! Left at intermission, and that was way too long to sit there, and not yell to say something NEW! |

Italian and Jewish a tiresome mix Review by: Ben, May 15, 2011 |
This show is best for unsophisticated seniors who have spent a lifetime watching mediocre sit-coms on TV. The "actor" does 90 minutes of tired jokes on Italian and Jewish themes -- one right after another, with nothing holding ot all together. Just 90 minutes of Borscht Belt gags that most of us have already heard -- plus the Italian schtick. The day I endured this performance, most of the audience laughter came ... read more from elderly tourist types and a group of girls who were obviously high (they also giggled at the 'Exit' sign). This humor is very broad, very obvious (you see the punch line a mile off), and very tiresome. If you're looking for clever or witty, this ain't it. |

I had more fun going to the bathroom meeting new people who were just as bored. I was so pest that I had wasted my money that I wanted to go back and ask to be reimbursted. A fun night out Review by: Janice, Jun 25, 2008 |
| Most humor is found in every day occurrences, which commonly happen to all of us, but is seldom spoken about. We tend to find things funny that we can relate to. Well, it doesn’t matter if you are Jewish, Italian or derived from any other background, as long as you have a mother you should be able to laugh at what goes on in this show. I left there wanting to remember several lines to re-tell. It’s hard to image that any one man talking about ... read more his family could hold your interest for 90 minutes, but somehow it works here. It’s a great show to see if you need a laugh. |

Tired jokes! Find another show! Review by: Girlfriend, Feb 3, 2008 |
| What tired, recycled jokes! I wanted to sleep, it was so bad, but the theatre was as cold as it was outside, maybe to keep the audience awake. Don't waste your money and time like I did! |

A few laughs but mostly old and low-level schtick Review by: brainyjane, Jan 14, 2008 |
| I took my elderly (Jewish) father to see this play and I'm very sorry I did. I thought it would be "theater" but it was a stand-up comedy routine. I thought the material would be funny and poignant and bring out truths we could all identify with. Instead it was mostly "schtick", old worn-out jokes with predictable punch-lines about farting dogs, hanging breasts and turbaned taxi drivers in NYC. Very puerile. I thought the author, Steve Solomon,... read more, was presenting his own material. Instead, a mediocre (though hard-working) actor pretended to be Steve Solomon. Since he was talking about someone else's family, the whole concept did not ring true. To be honest, there was plenty of laughter in the audience. Maybe people felt they had to enjoy it because they spent way too much for the ticket. |

Would have walked out if we weren't in the middle of a row Review by: llaurra, Jan 3, 2008 |
| This show is not meant for anyone under 65... and even those over should proceed with caution. I'm in my late 20s and went with two friends of mine in the same range, and we agreed it was a waste of a night (even with discount tix). The jokes were not clever, and the characters were cliche. The only positive was the acting--talented guy, but nothing could have saved this play. |

My family went to Theropy Review by: hil, Dec 26, 2007 |
| The guy tells his story about his life before the theripist comes. It was so funny I was crying in my seat. Even details that you would not think the guy would say. It was sad when he played the piano and his nana diea. So you want to see something off-broadway. Don't wait til another strick. |

Racist humor Review by: cw, Nov 25, 2007 |
I was very disappointed with the show! My friend and I thought it would be more of the "Seinfeld" type of humor. Instead, we sat through raunchy bathroom jokes and bad sexual humor. This one man show belongs in the Catskills or in the senior sectors of Florida.
In additional to the bad jokes, there was much racist humor towards Asian American groups. The comedian calling Chinese people "chinks" multiple times was equivalent to using ... read more the "N" word towards African Americans. It's no wonder that the audience totally white. As an Asian, had I known that I would be so embarassed, I would not have spent my money on this garbage. |

1 man Comedy Show that will make your face hurt!!!!!!!! Review by: PeppiLongStocking, Oct 15, 2007 |
I wanted to see this show since it came out. Finally MY cuzin said I'll get ticket's! I was so excited until I read that it was a 1 man show?#@? So I resolved myself to say, OK I'm going to a comedy act. If you do that, you won't be disappointed. Anyway it was very funny; we laughed the entire 1 1/2 hrs.! The only suggestion I have is that he could do more Italian gesture's & the good old fashioned slang words. There was so much story ... read more line about THE relative's that you have to keep up with which relative? The Italian side? Or the Jewish side? You can get confused. The other thing is that I'm tired of hearing about 9/11. Other than that we laughed & laughed until our face hurt! I would suggest to my Italian & Jewish friend's to go see the show! |

Review by: Sharmila, Sep 21, 2007 |
Opening night of previews, is my favorite time to first see a Broadway show. The bugs are still undiscovered and this provides an element of surprise for both the performers, and the audience. The cast provided high energy to a story based on a movie, but had elements of originality... The acting was superb, with Steven Lynchs' Robbie being an original- not just an Adam Sandler copy. Laura Benantis' Julia, had the kindness and sweetness- with ... read more a dose of humanity, that the role calls for. Matthew Saldivar and Kevin Cahoon, where an absolute hoot as the other band members. Playing a devoted Michael Jackson fan, and a wanna-be Boy George, they complemented Robbies' originality Amy Spanger played Holly, Julias' friend and co-worker. Holly was part spitfire, part tramp, and all heart. The only trouble I had was with Richard H. Blakes' Glen- Julias' fiance. Mr Blake is a wonderful actor and singer, I just found his dancing lacked any real fire or energy. I guess he just needed more 'Red Bull'. The wonderful sets and costumes full of color and moving shapes, fit perfectly in the 1980's timeframe. I had one slight problem with the story flowing smoothly, and I hope both the director- John Rando, and/or the writer- Tim Herlihy will remedy this situation. One moment Robbie is buying his ticket to Las Vegas, and in the next he meets Billy Idol-sort of. I think a line or two is needed in order to smooth out the transition and remedy the 'flow'. I LOVED the show greatly, and hope you've enjoyed my personal review of the show, since theater- and musical- enjoyment is a very subjective thing. |
