Worthwhile Review by: Legs, Apr 16, 2011 |
| Funny and sad at the same time, the characters are all addicted in one way or another. Bobby Cannavale is excellent as Jackie, the would-be recovering drunk in love with the totally addicted Veronica. Chris Rock is good as his amoral sponsor. There are standout performances by the actors who play Jackie's girlfriend and his cousin. The culture and language of the characters may disturb some theater-goers; this is a story about addicts and the ... read more sober are sometimes the most disturbing. |

A Good Time... Review by: jeff123divorce, Apr 9, 2011 |
Saw the play last night for a birthday gif from my brother...It was a very well done story of relationships, adultery and friendship. In between there were plenty of funny moments . The show moved quickly and before you knew it the hour and half show was over. My only complaint was when there were bursts of laughter fro the audience(there were plenty of those) I wish the actors on stage would of improvised a little and not kept going on with ... read more the dialogue...It was very easy to miss many words spoken. The acting, in my opinion was excellent and the timing of the jokes was quite good. Wish they used a few less curse words then when they did say the F-word it could of been funnier.. All in all the 5 actors on stage deserve the standing ovation they got at the end of the show......Jeff K |

Hard Core Reality, Quick moving Plot and Great Acting Review by: Rex, Bx, Apr 5, 2011 |
| This show is definitely not for the faint of heart. It is a raw drama( some comedy)that explores the seedy side of drug addiction and adultery. Bobby Canavalle steals the show with a heart wrenching performance as an ex con alcoholic drug addict struggling with recovery and the realities of his unhappy life( unemployment, hard core ghetto foul mouthed girlfriend who he later discovers cheated on him when he was in prison) You ... read more feel his character's pain. Chris Rock's portrayal as his sponsor and so called friend is believable. Unfortunately , the two female characters are cold, hard, and insincere. I found it difficult to warm up to these characters, but they are well performed. If you can handle hard core realities, then you will enjoy this production. If you are looking for something happy and light, you will not find it in this show. |

GREAT NEW YORK PLAY! Review by: Bill , Mar 30, 2011 |
| If you wanna see a New York play written with wonderful authentic command and structure - this play will please and then some. The acting is truth based and I didn't question it for a moment - each character was on a path and you had no problem following them. What surprised me most about this play was the emotional depth it carried. I left the theatre with this play in tow. Absolutely loved it... |

Funny, intense Review by: Monkton Chef, Mar 28, 2011 |
| Saw the Mother F***er With The Hat this past Saturday 3/26.I really liked the play, it was funny, it was intense, it made you think. The acting was superb, including Chris Rock. Don't go expecting to see a comedy and you will like it just fine. It is a play afterall. Also the change of sets was really well done. |

See this play! Review by: Michele, Mar 26, 2011 |
| This play definitely exceeded my expectations and was hysterical. The acting was terrific and I’m glad they took out the intermission for our showing. Chris Rock WAS very funny and had a flawless, believable performance. Bobby Cannavale was spot on played his role perfectly. The writer should win an award, as should Yul Vázquez (gay guy in two Seinfeld episodes). The woman who played Veronica was also great (think female John Leguizamo). ... read more If you have a sense of humor and aren’t offended by cursing and graphic sex talk, you won’t be disappointed |

a MUST see!!! Review by: Becky, Mar 23, 2011 |
Don't listen to the other two reviews - this play is a MUST see! I do agree that Chris Rock was probably brought on to help market the play, but he definitely isn't the highlight of the show. Bobby Cannavale give an INCREDIBLE performance that is poignant and moving (and just as hilarious at times). This play made me laugh, it made me cry, and I'm left still thinking about it. While there is a LOT of razer-sharp comedy, most of ... read more it doesn't actually come from Chris Rock - as long as you go in expecting that - I think you will be VERY pleased! |

The Mother F*****R with the hat is a Mother F**** Disapointment Review by: monona1401, Mar 19, 2011 |
I just came back from this show and I must say that it was extremely disappointing. Being a fan of Chris Rock I went seeking a sharp, razor-tongue, funny comedy and didn't find but a badly told story about some love triangle that really doesn't present anything new. The main issue here is the story which has no climax and even worse NO RESOLUTION. The characters do not evolve and do not reach or achieve anything. Some of the humor of the ... read more script is actually funny, however, it gets diluted between long and tiring drama scenes that seem to not really add anything. Additionally, Chris rock's performance was slightly better than poor. He seemed to be just there, not enjoying the plot or even "in-character". He seemed not motivated or moved by the character at all and he lost the "script" a couple of times opting to repeat a phrase several times until he caught up again with it, especially during the dramatic scenes, which made the pain even more unbearable. I honestly think that Chris rock was called to play this role simply because of the marketing value of his name. Nevertheless, I think that his participation in this play is doing a disservice to his career. While the rest of the cast did good and were actually entertaining at points, Chris was a big disappointment to the point that I wouldn't recommend this play to anyone. |
