Loved the show - much to my surprise Review by: , Jan 29, 2008 |
| I agreed to see this show with my son so he would accompany me to a show of my choice. I really never liked Monty Python, but became of fan at this show. It was hilarious. I actually bought the movie on DVD on the way home from the show. |

Hate movie. Love show. Review by: Mickey, Jan 13, 2008 |
| I think the reason I really liked this show so much is because I went in with bad expectations. I saw the movie, and almost turned it off it was so stupid. The show was hilarious and much more up to date which made it so great. |

Loved it although I'm not a Monty Python fan. Review by: Topaz581, Jan 9, 2008 |
I am by no means a Monty Python fanatic. I went to see the show with my boss and coworker. It was part of a Holiday Gift from my wonderful boss. Let's put it this way, Spamalot would not be on my top ten picks if I had to choose.
However!!!
I was quite pleasantly surprised. I laughed so hard that I forgot how uncomfortably tight the seats were. God knows how cramped one can get. I had my knees pulled up into my chest.... read more.
The actors were splendid. The music was very very good. The set and costumes were surprisingly good for a show of that period. You know how dank and dingy that period was.
My favorite was the Lady of the Lake. She was a great singer and very funny.
I would definitly recommed this show. Even if you are like me-not a Monty Python fan. It was a delighful show.
This show is great for any one over 18 since there are quite a few off colored jokes and skits.
I would love to go back and see it. |

Funny, but not good enough for Broadway Review by: Lola, Dec 19, 2007 |
| If you're looking for a great story line and memorable music, this isn't it. The show was funny, if you like the Monty Python-type of humor. However it is nothing like the Broadway I am used to and expected. If all I wanted was a comedy, I'd rather go see a stand-up comic. I was looking for a more traditional theater experience, which this definitely wasn't. If you love the Monty Pyton movies, are not looking for anything deap, and are not ... read more easily offended, give it a shot. But with so many great choices available on Broaday, my advise is spend your money on a Broadway classic. Especially if, like me, you don't get a chance to come to NYC that often. |

Feel good play with lots of humor Review by: SuzyQ, Sep 10, 2007 |
| My family of five saw it and loved it, loved it, loved it! My three sons (ages 15 to 21) thought it was great, as they were all previous fans of Monty Python movies. I was never a big fan but I still enjoyed the play immensely. It was a feel good, laugh out loud good time! |

Not Your Typical Broadway Musical Review by: , Aug 6, 2007 |
I saw this show several weeks ago...I must say that I really enjoyed the part of "The Lady of the Lake," but other wise the music was completely average and nothing special. The story, following the movie, which took out some parts but added better parts, was excellent.
One of the few downfalls in this show is the crowd, which was rowdy. It seems to be a lot of the movie fans, which come to see the show and try to ... read more "guess the lines," and continously clap after every song and most of the jokes. Also, most of the people constantly talk, stand, point, and hoot which can get a bit annoying.
It is really a good show though, just I'm not sure if I would see it again. I must say I'd rather see Les Miserables or The Phantom of the Opera, which is ironic, figuring that Spamalot mimics the song "The Phantom of the Opera" and it's scenery, and Les Mis's Eponine.
If you're not a typical Broadway person or don't enjoy the "classics," this is definately the show for you! |

Review by: Sean, Jul 28, 2007 |
| A hilarious adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It's great for fans of the movie and non-fans alike. Many of the sketches are recreated, but there are also lots of new bits and surprises along the way, like how musical theatre is constantly parodied. It's absolutely hysterical and a lot of fun. Go see it! |

Not for everyone Review by: NormNYC, Jul 6, 2007 |
I went to see this play last night and what a hoot. I totally enjoyed it. I think whether you'll like it or not will depend greatly on whether or not you like the Monty Python sense of humor. I grew up watching them on TV (PBS in NYC) and have seen all their movies. They're really witty, sometimes silly and often irreverent. I'd suggest watching something they've done, to see if its your type of humor. Its definitely not for everyone. Given ... read more some of the adult jokes, I would recommend that this play is NOT appropriate for young children under the age of 16.
Spamalot is really good adaption and update to their movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". I thought the new jokes and songs were great and stayed true to their style. Marin Mazzie was so good as The Lady of the Lake. I was really surprised when I heard John Cleese as the voice of God. I didn't know he was associated with the show.
If you enjoy the unique Monty Python sense of humor, then I would recommend this as a MUST see. Its a fun show and you'll leave the theater laughing and humming "Always Look At The Bright Side of Life".

alot of spam! could have used more jelly for binder! Review by: rok, Jul 5, 2007 |
| My 13 year old son and I knew what the lines were before they left the actors mouth! If you are a fan of the movie then don't go to this play. It was a huge dissapointmwnt for us both. There is very little that is original. It is more or less a regurgitation of the classic film. We felt it was just alot of Spam! |

Monty Python revisited Review by: mr_joe, Jul 4, 2007 |
Finally got the family (all adults) together to see the show. We are all Monty Python fans and we were quite satisfied with gags that go back so many years but have renewed life with this musical. The music is great, and the show is very very funny.
I saw some really small kids there, this show was simply not for them.
For adults with a sense of humor however, for those who just want to be silly, or most certainy for Monte ... read more Python fans, by all means see the show - it's constant laughter. |

Make sure you sit in the orchestra section! Review by: Barbara, May 29, 2007 |
| When I first heard Monty Python was making a musical I was estatic. However, I was quite disapointed after the first time I saw it. The siging was not so great, and it was basically the same as the movie. However when I went to see it a second time, with my expectations significantly lower, I really really enjoyed the show. I personally wouldn't go back, but if you like the Monty Python sense of humor go see it! But make sure to sit ... read more in orchestra if possible. I sat ALL the way up the first time I saw it, and you are basically looking strait down like I could see behind the castle, which might be why I didn't enjoy it. The second time, from orchestra, I enjoyed it a lot more. |

Must see for an avid fan! Review by: Sandy, Feb 12, 2007 |
| My fiancée really wanted to see this as we were raised on Monty Python. It was very funny and enjoyable, however, if you don't know much about the movies or care for it, you probably won't enjoy it as much. Still worth a shot. |

En Garde! My side is splitting! Review by: folkyboy, Nov 15, 2006 |
Having much experience with Monty Python and the cast recording for this show, I sort of knew what to expect before heading into SPAMALOT. The main reason for waiting was mostly due to the audience that this sort of comedy was drawn to. Not that there is anything wrong with British humor, in the least. I just wasn’t prepared to step into a bunch of people from Ohio chomping away on their candies and repeating every line over again to their ... read more spouse because they were laughing so hard.
However, I swear I was almost one of those people by the time the show was over as this is one of the funniest pieces of theatre I have attended in a long time. The first act gets a bit droll if you’ve heard the cast recording but the second act really boosted me up and out of my seat. It slams on it’s target audience in the most deliciously evil ways.
Marin Mazzie has taken over for Sara Ramirez and I have to tell you she was almost better than her at points. It’s no wonder this Tony winner is placed in such a Tony winning show! |
