Jolly Good Fun ! Review by: merlin53, Apr 25, 2012 |
| Attended the 4/18 matinee and was delighted with this production. From start to finsh, Mary Poppins will have your cheeks hurting you'll be smiling so much. Great songs, top rate acting, dancing and singing, and the most incredible set design I've seen in a while. ( TONY WINNER ! )Where else can you see a show where a house is such an integral part of the story telling. Amazing !!! Bert's "Step in Time " and Mary's departure in the finale are ... read more major highlights. Parents....please gauge your chidrens maturity and tolerance for sitting for close to 3 hours. A beautiful young ( too young ) girl and her au pair were sitting directly behind us and had a way too loud ongoing conversation for most of the First Act. After a vist to the Theatre management, a representative of the theatre explained very nicely and diplomatically that they would have to be quiet or they would be moved to different seats. Voila !!!! Not a peep from either of them during the entire second act! Please be considerate of others who have shelled out $150.00 per ticket for good seats when deciding if your child can reasonably behave at a broadway show. I would'nt recommend anyone under the age of 6 to 7 years attending unless exceptionally mature. Hope I don't sound like too much of a whiner, but at todays prices, no one should have to strain to hear dialogue over endless talking during a show....any show !!!!! Otherwise, this is a wonderful family show for the young and the young at heart. Highly recommended!!!!! |

Review by: mrbroadway, Feb 25, 2012 |
| This past weekend my Drama Club took a trip to NYC for the first time. To tell the truth I was a little dissapointed when I found out we would be seeing Mary Poppins instead of Anything Goes. By the time the night was over my mind was completly changed. The show in itself was supercalifragilistic! Like the title of one on the songs "Practically Perfect in everyway" The acting was terrific. Steffanie Leigh and Gavin Lee's performances where ... read more original and new but still kept to the charming characters that Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke created in the 1964 movie. The Tony Award winning sets blew my mind away, every little detail was not missed. I thought nothing much of the choreography until "Step in time"'s tap number at the end. It was great! The Real suprise was when we got to meet several of the cast members at the end of the show for a quick Q&A (This included Tony Nomminated actor Gavin Lee) |

Connect with Your Inner Child Review by: Heavensmagiclao, Feb 22, 2012 |
I saw it in NYC at the New Amsterdam Theater and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! :) Amazing performance with an excellent cast. Spectacular set design and fabulous energy! When Mary Poppins, Laura, flew up and over the audience, it reminded me of how I felt when I first saw her fly in the movie! Watching Bert climb the wall and dance on the ceiling was really neat too. Just an absolutely BREATHTAKING musical! ... read more :) We had seats in the Mezzanine, BB 6 and 8, and we felt like we had the best seats in the house. LOVED IT! If you loved the movie, you will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the musical. I highly recommend to put it on your BUCKET LIST. (--, :) |

An old classic is now my newest all-time favorite Review by: , Feb 6, 2012 |
My wife and I are in our early 50's. We have 4 children, ranging from 17 to 23. We saw this last week (without any of the kids) and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staging and props were among the best (if not the best) I've ever seen on Broadway. The storyline is wonderfully wholesome. The songs are truly memorable. The performers gave it their all. It's my new favorite. (We also saw Wicked the night before and,... read more, while that was good, Mary Poppins was better). I'd go again in a heartbeat. I can't understand how anyone could give this performance a negative review. |

Only if you feel you HAVE to see it Review by: cupcake, Feb 4, 2012 |
| Just saw it last week and can understand many of the complaints and compliments. Several scenes were unnecessary-the show could be shortened by an hour-it would be better for it. Take out the ridiculous toys come to life scene-too dark for kids and boring for adults. Also, what's with the giant umbrella? The statues were stunning. Mrs. Banks part had been reduced to "little woman" status-would've been better w/ Mr. Banks as a single dad! ... read more Bert did a great job-outstanding gymnastics. The kids were wonderful and Mary did well. The maid was too over the top and tried for obvious (and unreceived) laughs. The whole bad nanny part could've been eliminated-bring back "I Love to Laugh" in it's place! Very long for children. Set is beautiful. If you can get the half price tickets, it's a possibility but don't pay full price for it. |

Grandparents Delight Review by: LD, Feb 1, 2012 |
| "Grandpa, Mary Poppins really doesn't fly, she has wires." MARY POPPINS is a delight for children and their parents and grandparents. The Sunday matinee we saw, which Disney starts at 1PM for some reason, was filled with children and despite the "no photographs" rule, the grandparents could not be controlled and had to snap the shots of the kids in their seats. |

Review by: Chris, Jan 25, 2012 |
| I have not been to a Broadway show since i was a child, I am 41 now. I took my wife to Mary Poppins, and we were both delighted with the performance and acting. We had second row seats, although the seating was cramped, the theater was gorgeous. We were captivated like children at the performance. Would definitely recommend it. |

Unbelievably Disappointing Review by: BetterthanBroadwaysMary, Jan 11, 2012 |
| My sister and I have been doing little "at home" skits of Mary Poppins ever since she taught me how to sing. I had such high expectations walking into the show with my mother, who had also been a big fan of the original. This show should have never been produced for broadway. The story line was completely off - the cast didn't even know how to harmonize - and there were strange creatures and toys that came to life. AND who the heck is this Miss ... read more Corry supposed to be? I was so disappointed, it felt as if I was watching all my wonderful childhood memories go up into flames. I don't even know if the second act was any good, because I don't think I could have made it through without getting up on the stage and putting on the show the right way. I wish that it were better - but It was a huge mistake and a waste of money and time. |

Loved the film, LOVED THE MUSICAL! Review by: katepang, Dec 5, 2011 |
| THEY DIDN'T MAKE UP CHARACTERS!!! They're from the books, people!! Also I am a huge fan of the film and I absolutely loved the musical! I've seen this show twice since it started running on Broadway, first time in Feb 2008 and the second time just last Friday night (December 2nd, 2011). Except for the change in the number Temper, Temper to (what I feel is a scrap of a song, really) Playing the Game, both runs were so heart warming. The set and ... read more stunts are a real treat, and the choreography is fantastic. The only way you'll be disappointed is if you're expecting to see a replica of the film. |

That was Mary Poppins? Review by: broadwaybaby, Nov 28, 2011 |
| This was soooo disappointing- it was NOT Mary Poppins- it was cute if you have never seen the movie, but it was not even a bit like it- so go with no expectations if you go at all. The cast was good except the little blonde boy who played Michael Banks- he was annoyingly the over-actor- yes, he's a kid, but also a professional, and he irked me- but the show was just nothing like the movie, which I adored. Left me cold. If you have not ... read more seen the movie- go for it. If you have? Don't think of it as Mary Poppins- think of it as a fun kids show- because that is what it is. |

Disappointing Review by: LASuth, Nov 28, 2011 |
| Worst broadway production I have ever seen, if I had gone by myself I would have left at intermission. The original Mary Poppins is a classic, a wonderful musical, "Practically perfect in every way"! However this broadway production made unnecessary adaptations that completely changed the storyline and the characters! And didn't even include some of the favourite scenes of any true Mary Poppins fan! The only enjoyable part for me was the ... read more maid, she was the only true to the original character and she did an amazing job! |
