Very disappointed with Sophie Review by: Songbird, Jun 11, 2011 |
| Lianna Hunt was quite disappointing in this show. At first I thought she was not miked properly but as the show progressed it became apparent that she was one of the weakest characters in the cast. Voice quality was not the usual caliber of Broadway leads. I would not advise seeing this show until her role is recast. The rest of the cast members all performed very well. A role such as Sophie's is dependent upon an excellent lead vocal.. in ... read more this case the show missed its mark. |

Loved it! Review by: Leslie, Apr 28, 2011 |
| This show is a lot of fun. As others have written in the past, I wasn't impressed by the girl playing Sophie(Liana Hunt). However, the songs are fabulous and the actors on stage truly deliver. I was especially impressed by the characters who played Donna (Lisa Brescia) and Rosie (Jennifer Perry). They stole the show every single time they stepped foot on that stage. Lisa Brescia's voice in "Winner Takes It All" is breath-taking.... read more. I had a wonderful time. The story is charming and extremely hilarious. It's the perfect Mother/Daughter outing (which mine was), as well as a fun night out with girlfriends. |

Fun, Fun, Fun! Review by: Larry, Apr 18, 2011 |
| Fun, Fun, Fun! Saw the show in the evening of April 16, 2011 after seeing a disappointing afternoon showing of Phantom and then walking around Manhattan in the rain. Went in with low spirits and came out happy, very happy. Fun songs, high energy performances and entertaining show changed my day. The women playing Donna, Rosie and Tanya with wonderful. The vocals of the girl doing the part of Sophie were not so good, but its hard to dwell on ... read more that when everything else was so uplifting. |

wait til recasting sophie to see show Review by: mainemama, Apr 17, 2011 |
| Saw the show years ago and loved it. Saw it this weekend again and was REALLY disappointed by the girl cast as Sophie - huge drop off and nowhere close to level of talent expected on Broadway. Donna, Rosie and Tanya were AWESOME - felt myself longing for them to return to the stage. Girl playing Sophie is cute, but voice talent more commensurate with local theater, NOT BROADWAY. I would wait to see this until they recast that role. |

a guaranteed smile :) Review by: , Apr 9, 2011 |
| this show is a really fun time!!! however, the current girl playing Sophie (Liana Hunt) is not the best. her acting is okay, but her singing is very weak. i hate to say this, but i am actually surprised that she was cast as the part. anyway, the show has great music, a great story, and you are guaranteed to be smiling by the end of the show!!! |

Liana Hunt.... was horrible........ Review by: reb, Mar 25, 2011 |
Just saw the show... and I'm REALLY not sure how Liana Hunt (Sophie the daughter) got her part because saying that her singing is subpar would be an understatement. Her voice is weak, very nasally, and it made me feel uncomfortable -- I've watched all the broadway shows and have never felt this way before! She ruined her part of the show for me. Liana Hunt was a BIG MISS as far as casting... Lol, I sound like a really big hater and I ... read more honestly tried to like her.. But in the end all I could think was that, unfortunately, she did not belong there. I would never pay to see her and would have been mad if I ever had to. Anyway, the rest of the show and cast was really really great!! It was really entertaining and of course the music was awesome!! Aside from Liana Hunt, the show is a winner! |

STILL TICKING Review by: , Mar 10, 2011 |
| "MAMMA MIA" is not for the stuffy, uptight intellectual. I'll be honest and tell you this, quite often, is me. If you're looking for cerebral stimulation, go elsewhere. This musical is quite simply pure fun. Please forget they even made a movie of this musical as there is no way to comprehend why this musical is such a success after seeing that failure. The stage production is uplifting, energetic fun and definitely one of the "must sees" on ... read more B'way right now. |

It was simply a great night of entertainment! Review by: , Jan 27, 2011 |
| Absolutely great! Laughed til I cried and the vocals were worthy of Broadway. The full house crowd was on it's feet dancing for the last twenty minutes of the show. Rosie stole the show! |

| I saw Mamma Mia for the 5th time on October 10th.In my opinion this is the best fun feel good show on broadway.Yes the set is quite simple, but it works. the male lead John Dosset is not the best I've seen , but the rest of the cast more than make up for it.Beth Leavel as Donna is amazing, what a voice on this woman. Her co-stars Judy Mclane and Gina Ferrall are wonderful, talented and quite funny. The cast is clearly having a great ... read more time doing this show. ABBA is timeless Review by: Broadway Aficionado, Oct 13, 2010 |
The October 8 review by Bren is as misguided as his misuse of the English language. "Mama Mia' does have some weaknesses, but the energy of the cast, the ABBA classics, and the overall production, indicate that Bren is definitely in the minority, and if he thinks this is the worst show ever, it might be the only play (other than "Wicked"), that he has ever seen. I have seen it multiple times, still sing along, and feel like dancing ... read more at various times during the show.
