The best feel good show,Beth Leavel is amazing Review by: Terry, Jul 17, 2010 |
| I think Mamma Mia is the best show I've seen on Broadway, and I've seen many. I bought tickets the day before on a whim- I was blown away it is the ultimate feel good show with great songs and dancing.I had never seen Beth Leavel in a show before she was amazing, what a voice. She became Donna and was clearly having the time of her life playing the part.I can't wait to see it again. |

Fun time with bad vocals, wait for a new cast. Review by: John, Jun 28, 2010 |
| I just saw this on June 26th at the Winter Garden. I was fairly excited since I enjoy Abba music (although I would not call myself a fan). The story line is fun but don't expect any surprises. The biggest disappointment was the cast. I was expecting the leads to at least have good voices given that the mother was supposedly a lead singer in a band. To use the words of Simon Cowell it was indulgent - the cast were clearly enjoying themselves ... read more at the expense of the audience. At the end the greatest applause was for the a couple of dancers that never sang much. Is this really the best Broadway has to offer for talent? I think it was especially stark since I had just been to Hair where the vocal talent was so much better (think an elementary school play compared to Sound of Music). I'm going to rent the movie now and hope the singing and acting is better to get the experience out of my mind. |

Great for ABBA lovers! Review by: UK Sam, Apr 10, 2010 |
I was able to get really good seats (5th row from the stage) by purchasing regular tickets online, so, you really don't need to go all out and purchase premium tickets for this show. (It helps that it has been running for so long.) Will non-ABBA fans enjoy this show? My guess is not really because this is one of those shows that is about the music more than the actual story. The story (if you don't know it by now) is a girl is getting ... read more ready to be married but wants to know the identity of her biological Father. She finds out there are three possibilities and unbeknownst to her Mother, invites all three to her wedding on a fictional Greek Island. This show is a solid choice for any ABBA fan looking to spend their Broadway dollars wisely. If you aren't an ABBA fan, you might want to check out other shows. Personally I loved it. |

I picked up nice seats 11 rows from the stage for a Sunday matinee. I took my wife and 3 daughters to the show. We've been to a few shows and I always watch the girls to see if they are engaged in the show. They were glued to the performance the entire time. I'm not an ABBA fan at all, however, the storyline combined with the music and comedy makes the show really FUN and entertaining. I ended up enjoying it ... read more thoroughly and the girls loved it. I'd really recommend this show as a fun time. |

Absolute Shocker. Review by: AussieJoe, Mar 4, 2010 |
This was the biggest upset of my whole New York experience. I have heard such great reviews about the Australian production but this was TERRIBLE. The lead actors all look like they are bored with the lines, with generally being there! After seeing the movie, these actors were no match. I am gutted that I wasted my money, and even on my birthday!! I agree with the others...the casting and the set is incredibly disappointing. Go and see ... read more Wicked. |

Outstanding Cast Review by: Spartan75, Feb 27, 2010 |
| My wife and I saw Mamma Mia! for the third time on Feb. 20th. The previous times were when Carolee Carmello was playing the role of Donna Sheridan. The most recent time had Beth Leavel starring in that role. Without a doubt, this most recent experience was the best of the three showings. You could tell from the expressions of the actors that they truly enjoyed what they were doing. Not only was the cast extremely talented, but their ... read more enthusiasm was contagious. By the encore numbers, the audience was on their feet, dancing and singing along with the cast. What prompted my wife and I to see the show for a third time was the fact that Beth Leavel is a alumnus of UNCG, our alma mater. We are so proud of her talent. Way to go Beth!!! |

A Fun Show...even more so for the ABBA Generation Review by: Sophie, Feb 17, 2010 |
| This was a fun show, but not what I would call a classic broadway hit. I would see this again with others simply because it is a fun experience (esp. for people new to Broadway musicals). I just purchased two tickets for my parents because it is coming to their town, and as a couple new to musicals, they would have a blast! |

Lots of fun for the evening Review by: Brpadway Theatre Lover, Feb 15, 2010 |
| We were wowed again. We have seen this show with original cast, and substitutes and each time we were happy to be there. The music just makes you want to atleast tap your toes, and at the end, we just stood up and danced around by our seats. It was wonderful. Music like ABBA can do that for you. Enjoy an evening with Mamma Mia. No downers here. |

Totally disappointed.. Dont wast your money..Shocked how bad the set and singing was. Review by: Jeanne, Jan 19, 2010 |
| Totally disappointed... Worst set on Broadway and it seemed like a high school play at best. I dont understand the good reviews, not one person sang or danced in the aisles, they barely clapped. I went with a group and moms and our thirteen year old daughters and no one liked it and the girls wanted to leave at intermission. |

The WORST.Non-talented actors. Review by: mammamia!, Dec 27, 2009 |
This is the worst casting ever.I saw this in wintergarden, broadway i never ever thought actor/actress who perform at broadway haven't proved. Beth Leavel and her few friends was good but all the young actors.....!!!! they look like high school students on school musical. the way theysing and dance... it is just level of high school. And about the set? I can't believe from start to end, all scene performed of 1 set. the only good thing ... read more of this musical, is ABBA's music. that's it. i hate the cheap looking set and clothes, and even worse, the poor quality of casting. I threw my 90 dollars away. |

Totally Enjoyable Review by: rtm, Nov 12, 2009 |
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I wouldn't place too much stock in a review that manages to insult tourists, women and the Midwest all in one fell swoop, like the reviewer below. On the contrary, this show is insanely enjoyable. It's silly, yes but who cares? The music is great, and it's a wonderful treat. It was actually better than the movie, which I found a little forced. I find it funny that people who don't like ABBA ... read more go to this show and then complain about it. If you really don't like their music, don't go--but if you're an ABBA fan, this is a must see. |

Lots of Fun Review by: BroadwayLover, Nov 10, 2009 |
Despite the sexist comments by TimesSquare below, this is a show that everyone can like. In fact, I am a male, loved it and have seen it twice. You know you're not going to get "Hamlet" when you see "Mamma Mia", so as long as you have the right frame of mind, you will find the show to be great fun. The music of ABBA is woven seamlessly into the admittedly silly story, and the cast has as much fun as the audience. Not all shows have to ... read more be intellectually stimulating. Sometimes you just want to go, have fun and to feel good afterwards. |

For tourist women only Review by: TimesSquare2899, Nov 5, 2009 |
This show is the stage equivalent of those Real Housewives shows. Estrogen-driven, kooky, high-energy, not well scripted, dancing that's amateurish, and ultimately vapid and flaky. Often reminded me of a well-executed musical from a highschool in Iowa, and about as low-budget. The low-budget set (singular) just spins around, so you spend 2.5 hours looking at the same thing. And about 2 hours in, I nearly nodded-off at the succession of ... read more slow ballads. There is so much higher-quality theatre on Broadway. This show has been such a smash hit apparently among tourist women who don't know much better and are willing to fork over insane prices to see "a Broadway show". As a guy, I hated it just as much as I hate the Real Housewives. |
