A very fun show at the right price Review by: siouxsiedc, Jan 4, 2012 |
| A very fun show! We got discounted tickets for the whole family, and if it wasn't really appropriate for the youngest ones, the suggestive jokes went right over their heads (and they loved the very athletic dancing, the catchy songs, and the fact that the actors were playing basketball on stage). It's not a profound show, but it doesn't pretend to be (much like the equally fun "Xanadu"). The audience was the biggest problem, a little old for the ... read more subject matter maybe, which meant they didn't seem to get some of the jokes. The very young cast was uniformly excellent, and attitude-free - they were happy to sign the kids' playbills after the Christmas Eve show! Too bad it's not playing off-Broadway, where it would have time to build the audience it deserves. |

Broadway Needs More Shows Like This... Review by: , Dec 31, 2011 |
This was a GREAT show. The music is really catchy and the book is laugh-out-loud funny and the cast works VERY hard. And price-wise, this is one of the few Broadway shows that doesn't take advantage of theatregoers as it offers reasonable prices for tickets so there is zero excuse not to get down to the Kerr and enjoy yourself! This is the type of show that deserves support. Broadway is starting to turn into nothing but jukebox shows, ... read more star vehicles, or movie rehashes. This show is very original and Broadway needs more shows like this! I've already seen it twice and would see it again. The sign of a good score is when you practically have the songs memorized after only two listens! |

Leave this one for the 20-somethings! Review by: Old School, Dec 12, 2011 |
| A little bit High School Musical's basketball scenes(my kids movie, not mine)) a little bit Porky's (trip to the brothel), leave this one for the younger folks. As a forty-something with my wife, I felt like the oldest guy in the room. Would be the equivalent of dropping by your old college dorm or fraternity house on a big football weekend - out of place, in the way and a little bit of a lurker (hey, I have daughters their age). But, if ... read more you're in the target range of this musical, I think you will enjoy it. Certainly high energy and performed with gusto. The theatre was packed and the majoriy of the audience was having great fun. Just know your boundaries old guys. |

If the preview is any indication.....Can't wait to see it again when it opens!!!!! Review by: The Beast, Dec 9, 2011 |
So when I went to see this show I really did not know what to expect. Having seen about 90% of what Broadway has had to offer over the last 10 years, I was genuinely surpirsed at how great I felt when I left the theater. Went in a bit stressed from the week and left laughing out loud at some of the lines. Especially liked the line about Amelia Earhart. The acting was excellent, the singing as good as I heard. Loved Jason Tam, ... read more especially after having watched him in the Chorus Line documentary. So heres the deal: If you want an evening to relax, enjoy, and not spend half the show trying to figure out the meaning of life (although there is an excellent message in the show)this is the show for you.

Not worth the money Review by: , Dec 5, 2011 |
| This is a show for anyone 20-30 years old. I paid close to $200 for orchestra seats and hated the show. No set designs, no costumes, not worth the money. This show should have stayed on off-broadway. |

It's a Hit! Review by: Tom, Nov 20, 2011 |
My wife and I loved the show. It was everything we thought it would be--sexy, lively, entertaining, fun... In addition, it was well written, fast paced (with no real lull periods), and the staging and choreography were excellent. The book was up-to-date, edgy, and suggestive without being dirty (something I appreciated). The music was awesome and some of the songs are really memorable while the rest moved the story along nicely. ... read more Patti Murin was really awesome in every way, believable, energetic, and led the cast perfectly. Liz Mikel may have stolen the entire show with her bigger than life presence and personality, and Lindsay Nicole Chambers was 100% into her role. Josh Segarra did a very good job and Jason Tam, in my opinion, was even better. Certainly none of the guys are going to be NBA players but the basketball segments were well done and more than adequate to tell the story the right way. Overall, we give the show a double thumbs up and believe the producer has a hit on her hands. If we were betting, we would say that the theatre snobs are going to hate it and everyone else is going to love it. Lysistrata Jones is a show we will go see over and over again and then catch it on tour.

Original and enjoyable Review by: LD, Nov 20, 2011 |
Although I did not see this show Off Broadway I can see it is designed for a younger audience -20 to 30 years old and I am not sure how the Broadway crowds will take to it although the matinee on November 19 was packed with people of all ages. Having said that, it is an enjoyable, potato-chip of a show. It lacks a complex plot and tunes you will not forget but it is original, high-energy and worth seeing.... read more. Liz Mikel (Hetaira) comes close to stealing the show. |

Broadway Equivalent of Junk Food Review by: Carol, Nov 18, 2011 |
Lysistrata Jones is a rough take-off on the classical Greek comedy Lysistrata by Aristophanes. The original concerns women withholding sexual favors to end the Peloponnesian War. The updated version, written by Douglas Carter Beane, is set at Athens University where the basketball team never wins a game. The thin, predictable plot involves the girlfriends of the team members refusing to sleep with the guys until they win. Patti Murin as ... read more Lysistrata Jones is the affecting blonde cheerleader who organizes the sexual ban. The energetic young cast effectively dance their way through the production choreographed by Jessica Hartman with hip hop and arobatics. The cast is comprised of unknowns making their Broadway debut. Look for more from Liz Mikel as Hetaira, the independent, influential woman, a courtesan were renowned for her achievement in dance and music, as well as her physical and intellectual talents. Based on the ancient Greek role, Hetaira was educated and the only woman who actively took part in men’s drinking parties and discussions where her opinion was welcomed and respected. In this case she becomes the philosophical madam of Eros Motel dispensing common sense to the basketball team members seeking her advice and relief from their horniness. The show is a pleasant diversion—a piece of fluff, or the equivalent of junk food, that will entertain if not leave any lasting impression.

Thoroughly enjoyable Review by: Lady Di, Nov 16, 2011 |
| Loved the show. It was upbeat and the singing and dancing were good. THE only negative was the music was a bit too loud. Otherwise, I loved the show. |

Skip It Review by: Dylan, Nov 15, 2011 |
| Some of the songs are good and the cast tries hard, but the story is just SO weak and most of the jokes so lame that this is unfortunately a pass. After Sister Act and now this, it's sad to see Douglas Carter Beane has gone from talented writer to complete hack. Another of those shows that tries to wrangle in a young audience with sub-Glee level material. Have to say, this is the first time I've seen so many people walk out DURING the first act. |
