Cynical Old Farts Review by: Peter V., Mar 24, 2008 |
| I travel often on business to New York and always make it a point to see two or three shows. The Little mermaid was head and shoulders above most I have seen. The audience cheers at the end of every number and the standing ovation that began with the first bows is comfirmation that Disney knows what the people like and the critics are cynical old farts that have forgotten how to enjoy life and rejoice in the simple things. The songs ... read more were perfect, the acting and singing top notch. The show was visually stunning and a good time was had by all. (Except the cynical old farts) I liked it so much that I will be bringing my family to see it this summer. |

Disappointing Review by: Runbdy2, Mar 11, 2008 |
| My daughter and I saw Little Mermaid on March 8, 2008. I left feeling disappointed. Sierra Boggess captured the charater of Ariel and was the best on stage. My daughter enjoyed Flounder. There were parts that were good. The way the boat and water moved was interesting and the drowning and saving of Prince Eric was well done. But the whole show never came together. We have seen Lion King and Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. ... read more Little Mermaid does not come close to the choreography and pagentry of those shows. I was most disappointed in the choreography of many numbers. Most of the actors seemed to just go on stage, do their bit and leave. |

The Little Mermaid sparkles on Broadway. Review by: SparklingAriel, Mar 9, 2008 |
The Little Mermaid on Broadway is an amazing show. The costumes were beautiful, the set was gorgeous, and the cast was phenomenal. The lighting effects were also amazing. Everything was sparkling and shining, which is exactly how I think the show should have been portrayed. The new songs flow seamlessly into the storyline, and they are all very good. Sierra's portrayal of Ariel was nothing short of perfect, and Sherie ... read more Rene Scott makes a great Ursula. Tituss Burgess is the most perfect Sebastian, and the boys who play Flounder are also great. Sean Palmer was very impressive, as well as Norm Lewis. All actors played their parts well and proved that they all have great improvisation and comedic skills. There are slight changes in the plot (I won't give them away) but I think they are smart changes that make this show even more wonderful. I just don't understand some of the bad reviews I'm reading. I personally think this is Disney Theatricals best work yet (Though I have yet to see The Lion King and I know that's supposed to be great). I've read reviews of the set and costumes being BLAND. They are intricate and sparkly and bright, how can they be BLAND? The Little Mermaid has always been my favorite, and this show lived up to more than my expectations. |

Not a Must-See, But Still Fun Review by: Shannon, Mar 8, 2008 |
I went the third day after opening and was neither let down, nor extremely impressed. I sat in the orchestra, pretty close to the front, and immediately noticed that there were sections of the proscenum with choppy paper circles glued onto them... my first thougt was, "something's going to pop out of them... way to go Disney..." I thought that Sierra Bogess, Tituss Burgess, Tyler Maynard, and Derrick Baskin were the best members of the cast. ... read more Eddie Korbich and Norm Lewis were also good, but sadly their parts were not written well- Scuttle's song "Positoovity" was kinda lame, and Triton's part was pretty underplayed. The biggest letdown was Sherie Renee Scott. I'm a big fan of hers, but her portrayal of Ursula was... well, Sherie Renee Scott in an awkward costume, camping up her lines and ending everysong in the same Sherie Renee Scott belt. The costumes were a little disapointing. Why was Ursula's face purple and her skin blue? I could never get past the skirts on the mermaids, especially since their feet were always popping out, and the choreography included a lot of leg movement. Some of the big numbers were overwhelming-- "Under The Sea" had so much going on, I went into sensory overload and couldn't process anything except the fact that Tituss Burgess has a fantastic voice. I couldn't understand why Ariel would be dressed in a normal pink dress at the castle, but all the maids looked like giant peeps. Still, despite all that, I felt that, with a discout ticket, the show was enjoyable. I mean, it is musical theatre... some things just don't make sense. And overall, I still enjoyed myself. I still had a fun night. |

Review by: , Mar 6, 2008 |
| According to the Little Mermaid Website, you are suppose to be age 4 or up in order to go into the theater. Do they check for it? Absolutly not. So you would be able to take her. As long as she doesnot cry and know its just a show, i would take her. She would love it to see one of her favorite princesses on stage like that. Her face would be in awe throughout the whole show. Ursula is actually not as mean in the ... read more show but I would let her watch the movie and explain to her that they are just acting so she is prepared for Ursula. Hope I helped. |

Definitely go see. Review by: T$, Mar 4, 2008 |
| I saw the Little Mermaid on 3/1 and I was very impressed. The acting, singing, and staging were great. To me the entire set was the most surprising. It really made it as real as possible while still being in a theater. My only complaint was the seats were super close together. I'm not a really tall guy but I was uncomfortable. So my advice to big guys is not to sit in the Mezz. Other than that I would recommend it to anyone. |

Appropriate for a three year old? Review by: , Mar 4, 2008 |
| I am planning on taking my five year old daughter to the Little Mermaid in Aug. and am trying to decide whether or not to also take my three year old who loves princesses and plays. Is Ursula's character too scary for a three year old? Were there young children in the theater? Thanks! |

I rather live "Under The Sea" Review by: Pernell, Feb 24, 2008 |
| Underwater scenes are one of the hardest effects to pull off -- but the Little Mermaid did a wonderful job. The special effects were amazing, especially the Prince Eric drowning scene and Ursula's intro. |

| i just saw ilm and wow it was one of the best shows. the sets, the costumes, eveything, it was just fabulous. but, there was a few accidnts, one eric fell into ariels harms when he was drowning, and u can tell by ariels face tht wasnt supposed to happen. they imprevised but ariel holding eric and moving her arms to make it look like she was going up (which i thought was a great cover up). then while ariel was turning into a human, the same ... read more wire the eric fall off of broke. but thnk good someone saw it coming and "heelyed" to the reascue. anyway, this show will lat for years and year to come (after i went off on a tangent) |

Loved it Review by: kennedy, Feb 16, 2008 |
| We loved the Little Mermaid. The acting was wonderful. As my 4 year old watched it she said Ariel sounded just like the Ariel in the movie and she actually enjoyed Ursula in the show. Her eyes were glued to the stage the entire time. The sets were great as well as the spectacular costumes. |

Can't wait to go again Review by: Mickey, Feb 10, 2008 |
| This show was just one of the most spectacular I've seen, and I've seen many. The sets, costumes, special effects, music, actors were all right on key. I had very few things to complain about, which is unusual. |

Better than the movie Review by: Shir, Feb 4, 2008 |
| I saw the show yesterday with my family. We loved it. Flounder's costume still needs work, but the rest of the costumes were excellent. I was amazed when Flotsam and Jetsam made electrcity on stage. I felt like I was actually underwater during the show. I think they should have gotten rid of Ariel's tail instead of it falling down on the stage. When the actors moved from sea to land swimming, I was amazed. The effects could have been better (i.e.... read more. Ursula dissapearing, Ariel turning into a human on stage) but they were okay. I disliked the contest idea, but it was still entertaining to watch. The cast was talented. It looked like they were actually swimiing.I plan to see it again very soon. I like the fact that Ursula actually mentioned Ariel's name unlike the movie. This is now my favorite Broadway show. Even though it was different than the movie, I loved it. Thanks for this review section and thank you Disney for making the show. |

Loving the Little Mermaid!!! Review by: Linds, Feb 4, 2008 |
| My 20 year old sister and I got tickets to see The Little Mermaid for Christmas. We both loved this movie growing up and were very anxious to see it. We had second to last row seats and I was nervous, because we were back so far, but the play was just phenomenal. I don't understand how people could be writing bad reviews about this play. I suppose everyone has their own taste, but I thought everything was done so well! I've seen ... read more many broadway plays including Beauty and the Beast and Aida which I loved, but this just tops them both. The singing was amazing....I couldn't believe the voice on Flounder! I do agree that Flounder's costume didn't really fit in with the rest. The other costumes were so elegant and bright. Flounder's kind of looked like a costume you could buy at Walmart. The sets really made you feel like you were underwater and the fact that the actors and actresses wore Healys to 'glide' underwater was awesome. The songs were great! I loved the new ones as well as the old. I would recommend this show to any gender or age. It would be a great first broadway show for any little ones out there. Under The Sea was wonderful!!! Don't go into the play expected the movie. It is a little different so that it would work on the stage, but the same plot is there as is the Disney magic. If you can't tell, I loved it and I will most definitely be seeing it again. The play is sold out through May for a reason. Go see it, you will love it! |
