(Sigh) What can I say? The singing was good; the actors did as much as they could with what they had to work with; the special effects were sometimes laughable (and people did actually laugh). My daughter and I went with open minds, but.....
The second act picked up a little but not enough. If you really, really want to see this show, don't buy the most expensive tickets. You'll kick yourself. |

| I was really excited about seeing this show, and out of all the shows I saw that week it was the worst. The average public will not understand what is going on if they don't know about vampires. The music was cheesy, and so was the story. The talent was good, and the voices were also. The whole show is not very good. Don't waste your time or your money. |

The actors/actresses themselves are obviously very good and had great, accomplished voices...too bad they had a horrible production to work with!
I understand that it would be difficult to bring an Anne Rice book to life on stage but this was ridiculous. There's so much potential for grand stage sets and dramatic music. Both areas just fell "flat" here. Normally, there's at least one song that's memorable enough that it would ... read more become "stuck in one's head" but this did not happen. I like Elton John in general but his music is just too fluffy and light-hearted for Anne Rice. I couldn't help think that someone like Jim Steinman (Meat Loaf's main composer) or someone more "hard-edged" would have been a better match.
If it wasn't for the great voices and handsome actors, and the hope that maybe the second half would improve, we probably would have left at intermission! |

We'll if you are a snooty over critical viewer then chances are this play won't be right up your alley. After reading some reviews before seeing it I expected nothing but the worse. But I decided to go and see anyway. I mean who cares what other people have to say, dosen't mean I will think the same. Or maybe it was just because I got free tickets to see it anyway. But really it wasen't bad. Not as great as Wicked. But then again ... read more I don't think any play right now can beat that one. I liked it Lestat. Oh, and by the way it wasen't freezing cold in the place like someone said it was.

What a disappointment. The show was boring, the scenery was dull, the lighting was dreadful, the music was not memorable and lacked passion or anything pleasant. In general, it was a waste of our time and money. Claudia was fabulous and had the one decent song of the show, but one song and one performance does not make a show. The voices were wonderful, but I'd rather listen to some of my favorite actors/actresses on my CD's, like Parade!... read more! I can't imagine what they could do before opening night to make this show work. It would need to be totally rewritten, have all new music and put some lights on the stage. Above the question was asked, "who would I recommend this for?" The answer is "no one", but there is no blank for that! |

Wow, this show should definently have been a comedy. The first half was excruciatinglyu long and borng. The story was dry, and the character develoment was absent. The effect that should have come off was an uncomfortable, primal lust, but it ended up justbeing hilarious. The air conditioning was absolutely FREEZING for the whole show, which added the cold effect that the show lacked. Also, the director must not realize that every special ... read more effect can be seen from the top balcony and is therefore so funny many people in my group were gnawing on their arms to keep from laughing out loud. The wall of fire and bowls of ashes were a complete joke.
To sum up, the actors/singers were cast in a play that wastes their talent. Lestat and Claudia should move on to real plays (or Hugh Panaro should resume his role(s) in phantom of the opera). This show should be taken off broadway as soon as possible. Thank god i only paid $20 for my ticket. |

| Well I have been waiting to see the show since I heard about. Being a huge Chronicles fan may have put skewed my opinions. The music wasn't too bad although, Crimson Kiss and I Want More were the highlights. You cannot cram that many books into one show. No charcter was developed with the exception of Lestat and maybe Nicholas, but then they changed that storyline anyway. I found Lestat to be weak and sniffling instead of cocky, arrogant, etc....... read more.you know the "brat prince". Marius needed to get rid of the robe. He was up on high fashion in the book. Lighting and set was wonderful. Acting was good especially Gabrielle and Armand. Now that being said, it was a good play and has potential to be better that is what previews are about. I will see it again, but Im afraid it will have a short run. I think the passion that is Lestat needs to be brought forth if it will suceed. |

Is anyone up for some unexpected comedy? Honestly, forget about expecting an exiting and "on the edge of your seat" vampire story. There are so many corny and simply ridiculous moments during these three hours that you just can't help laughing out loud. But don't feel guilty if you do so; believe me you won't be the only one. Also, if you want to be late, feel free to do so because the first half is just plain slow and boring. You might even ... read more say a waste of good talent and your time. If they want it not only to last but, to actually have a good show, they have a lot of work to do because having Elton John help with the music isn’t going to drag a large number of crowds and Julia Roberts is definitely not available for this one.

Claudia definately stole the show! She had an interesting story line, the best song in the play, and was full of energy! Unfortunately, this show is not called "Claudia", it's called "Lestat" and so Claudia only appears for three or so scenes in the second act. For the rest of the play you have to suffer through melodrama, sudden shifts of time, and dreary songs. Despite not being an Anne Rice fan, I had hope for the play when the curtain opened ... read more and I saw the first set. Snow was suggested with white silk spread over the stage, and a blood-red piece that eminated from a wolf's body gave a life-like appearance of blood.
Then Lestat started singing "Wolf-Killer." It was all downhill from there.
Fans of Anne Rice may enjoy seeing their favorite characters on stage - the acting and singing weren't the problem with this play. The story and lyrics were. |

| IT'S A TRAINWRECK!!!!! From the mement we sat down and there were surveys tapped to our pricey seats, I became nervous. I guess I should have listened to my instincts because the show was awful and I actually wanted to leave. It was like watching a car accident in slow motion. I could not believe this actually was a broadway play with so many talented people involved. The scrpit should be burnned and rewritten or else just close ... read more down the production. As we left the theater all we could overhear was complaining andeveryone looked extremly disapointed. The only lucky ones were those that left during the first half and there were many. I would NEVER reccomend this show and I hope they put it out of it's misery! |

I thought it was a decent show with an awesomw cast. As a Hugh Panaro fan, I was really excited to see him preform. He was amazing :) The music was decent, it's so repetitive that you want kill yourself, but the singers are amazing. I loved the guy who played Armand, he was so creepy and good. Louis was average. Gabrielle was really good, I was sitting in the 3rd row and could see all her expressions, her acting was amazing. Claudia was good too.... read more. I want more is one of the better songs in the show, and though her voice cracked once, overall she was pretty good, she's a strong actress. I hated Marius. He was so wrong. His voice was annoying and he was fishing in a buddhist monks robe. i cringed when he came onstage. Overall, it was a good expieriance, but it was the cast, not the show that was good. We'll see how long it lasts. |

I'll never get those three hours back!!! What a waste of time, energy, and talent!! Based on all the bad reviews from San Francisco, I didn't expect much. That being said, it was worse than I had feared. LESTAT had a few fabulous actors in it, but their talents were wasted by the lame score and lousy lyrics. (I just laughed at the whole Wolf Killer bit) This show seemed like a Les Miz wannabe and felt 10 to 15 years old.
What ... read more were these people thinking? Yes, Claudia's song was better -- but it was horribly out of place. Nothing about this show was interesting and I can't imagine any serious theatre goer liking this crap.
Save your time and money -- go see a real show. |

I thought the production was very good - being familiar with the story possibly helped. The stage sets although simple were effective and portrayed the story very well.
In agreement to another review the theatre was bl**dy cold - Take warm clothes, hat and scarf - the theatre needs to sort out the air conditioning.
Admittingly Lestat would not have been my top choice, however since I was in New York for only 2 days the choice was ... read more limited for a Monday evening.
On leaving I overheard lots of bad feedback from others - they possibly expected too much from the music - I expected very little and was pleasantly suprised. Would recommend to vampire lovers and goths, but do not go just for the music.
