talented actors but that's about it. Review by: , May 9, 2006 |
| The actors were extremely talented. Too bad they did not have a better show to perform. Not as bad as the published reviews, but I definitely would not recommend it. |

For the Theatre people Review by: , May 9, 2006 |
| After reading all the negative reviews, I expect to go and see an awful show. Being a performer myself for over 15 years, I have to tell you that I was pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Okay, SOME of the scenes could use a re-write and A COUPLE of the songs were weird, BUT there were some scenes and songs that were amazing. Carolee Carmello, who played Lestat's mother, is worth the price of admission alone. She has one of ... read more the most amazing voices I've ever heard on a broadway stage. That being said, I would recommend this show to my friends. |

Would see it again!! Review by: sha, May 8, 2006 |
I enjoyed it! It's a musical about vampires. Lighten up the songs by Elton John were perfect they told the story. The voices were amazing the threater was not too cold the sets were good. It had humor and I had fun. They received a standing ovation and everyone had a great time! I say go see it with a open mind! It was great.

interesting that Lestat is a gay dracula/ neither sexy or scary Review by: Chris, May 7, 2006 |
| It was interesing that lestat is a gay dracula. The voices were quite good. The story was boring. My wife and I--we loved Dracula The Musical so much more. The special effects were poor. Not a good romantic heterosexual date show. Over all subpar show. Lestat is neither sexy or scary in my opinion. |

A Pain in One's Neck Review by: Director, May 4, 2006 |
All the voices are golden but Elton John's music tsakes no chances and is indeed whimpy. The book and staging are lost. Zacherly was more a threat to his audience than Pannaro's Lestat There is virtually no acting, just a few lines and a song before the next seen. Dozed off twice during the first act and woke up with stiff neck. Putting Hugh Panaro in modern street garb (I'm Lestat, I'll live forever) at the end seems more intent to keep the ... read more show going than instilling the haunting thought as the audience parades out.

Wasn't totally disappointed Review by: GRAMPYONE, May 4, 2006 |
| After reading all the bad publicity for the show I was a little skepitical. Saw the show on Tuesday May 2nd. I had heard they were rewriting the first act. I wonder what is was like before we saw the show. In a nut shell. The first act was slow and wordy. The second act picked up very nicely. The actors had terrfic voices. The music was ok. The plot was silly at times. The bottom line- the show wasn't as bad as some people said. It was ... read more ok. I wonder how long it will last. |

HATED IT! Review by: ImRud2, May 3, 2006 |
I thought Brantley in New York Times was too kind in his review. I saw it at during Easter and hated everything about it. Act 1 was all exposition scenes and then bursting into song. I thought we had gotten a little further in 2006. When Hugh Panero in modern jeans walks out to us in the audience at the end and says: "I am Lestat, and I will live forever!" I thought I was going to puke! I also think he has a wony voice. ... read more Carmello has a beautiful voice, unfortunately in the wrong show. Sorry, but I have a feeling this show will not live forever. M.R. Oslo, Norway |

Loved the show, hated the story. Review by: Maggie, Apr 26, 2006 |
I did love the show on the whole, but was disappointed in a number of things. I would have preferred a "darker" story. The whole idea of vampires is the thrill of their supernatural character. I realize that Anne Rice's Lestat did infuse a bit of wit and wryness into the character, but I believe that it was overdone in this production. The story didn't exactly "suck", but it should have focused on a more finite period in Lestat's life. ... read more It would be impossible to include every aspect of Rice's books into one show, it should never have been attempted. Basically, I think the story needs to be rethought. Lose the wolves, find another way of introducing Gabrielle (she was great!) and rethink the Theatre of the Vampire in Act 1 (nothing like the way I pictured it, also too long). Although I would have preferred a richer, more "complete" set, I can understand why this one worked for this particular staging. One word for the actors, "Beware of center stage!" (way too obvious). Also, cut the costume change at the end of the show. Those who know the story don't need the reminder, and those who don't know the story will just come away confused. Better to end it "in the air". The music was beautiful, the performances were very strong (and kudos for keeping a straight face) and I will see it again, hopefully after it is re-worked into a force to be reckoned with. Long live Lestat!! |

Compelling, dark and hauntingly memorable! Review by: bitten, Apr 24, 2006 |
| For those who like dark, compelling stories and aren't afraid to shed a few tears along the way, Lestat is a richly satisfying evening. Terrific performances, a strong score and lyrics to satisfy any Bernie Taupin fan, the evening is well worth the time and money! |

Seeing the play was not in Vein Review by: Blackwidow, Apr 23, 2006 |
| We went to see the show on April 22nd. I never read the books but could follow the story easily. If you expect to hear "ELTON JOHN" music you won't. What you will hear is well written music with lyrics that capture the time period the actors are in, although if you listen carefully you can hear subtle Elton John undertones. The Voices in this play are GREAT, yes Claudia was great but so wasn't everyone else. At intermission and at the end of the ... read more play my wife and I talked to at least 15 different people and everyone enjoyed the show. The way we rate a show is whether we would pay to see it again, and in the case of Lestat we would. |

Amazing, talented cast with a beautiful score Review by: nicole3458, Apr 23, 2006 |
| I loved this show! A very talented cast with gorgeous voices. Hugh Panaro (Lestat) is fantastic! The score is beautiful, I can't stop humming the music and really look forward to the cast recording. Yes, the story is a little weak, but really picks up by ACT II. This show is worth seeing for the cast and score alone. Just don't take the story sooooo serious and you will have a wonderful time! My husband really enjoyed it as well. |

Better 2nd act Review by: Rsk, Apr 22, 2006 |
| I saw the April 21 performamce,, Wasnt as bad as I had expected, The first act was dull with the exception of Caralee Carmello songs... The second act was really good with the addition of Claudia.. The Vocals are very strong, and the music was very nice,, I was expecting some better special effects as the plot really wasnt too strong. I think this will fare better than the last 2 Vampire musicals due to Elton John |

Went with open mind Review by: SunnyOne, Apr 22, 2006 |
When my husband and I went to see LeStat I did not know how I would like it. I must say I was surprised to see that it held my interest and the actors and actresses were great. Each one was perfect. My husband read all of anne rices books and enjoyed it. I never read her books and still enjoyed it. Clauida(Allison Fischer was incredible). After reading all the bad reviews I did not know what to expect, but I must say I was pleasantly ... read more surprised and I would recommend everyone to see it and voice there own opinion, its like going to a movie, some people love it, other people dont. I am glad I went and yes, there was a standing ovation at the end. |

CLAUDIA (ALLISON FISCHER) STOLE THE SHOW. Review by: jersey girl, Apr 21, 2006 |
| The actors were great and their voices devine, but the show is lacking something. Too bad for the people who left at intermission. When Claudia gets on the stage, things spark up. She was terrific, her song and lines were worth the wait! |
