Dear Cirq...what happened to you? Review by: The Reaper, Jun 14, 2009 |
First of all...add to your ticket prices at least 20-40 dollars just to get to the island to see this show, whether ferry, bus, cab or parking...it's a half hour each way and a nice chunk of change. Then, be prepared to be disappointed. I have been a huge fan of their shows over the years and in the past was blown away by their productions. This is not one of those productions. Essentially it's a watered down Wintuk for the summer. I ... read more suppose they are capitalizing on the kids market but they have left so much behind. It's like Ringling Brothers with a tiny bit more talent. There must have been a solid hour of nothing but clown routines...a juggler, (Seriously...a juggler), and old school traditional circus acts like trapeze and tightrope. GONE are the elaborate backdrops and atmospheric elements. There is no real mood or storyline ever established. How could there be when every five minutes clowns are doing slapstick or firing a confetti cannon into the crowd. That's fine for a twenty dollar circus at the Garden. But for these ticket prices and being so hard to get to...it takes a lot of nerve to put on a one ring circus and empty people's wallets. There is a guy in a dog costume and a bald guy in his forties pretending to be a little kid...a la Wintuk. One or two awesome acts and fifteen boring ones with more clowns and silly crowd interraction than anyone should ever have to sit through. It's like a watered down one third of what Cirq used to be. Save your money or wait for them to wake up and realize their name does not hold the reputation or performance value it used to and it certainly doesn't live up to the ticket prices or difficulty to get to. The Reaper has spoken. |

Not Their Best Work Review by: , Jun 14, 2009 |
| The show was good but not great. In fact the main drawback was the clowning which was substandard and corny in the extreme. Frequently, they resorted to vulgarities for a cheap laugh. I hope next year they loose the clowning which isn't even as good as that offered by Apple or Ringling Bros. |

Good Not Great Review by: JB, Jun 1, 2009 |
| I agree with the reviewer who said the show was very good but did not have the WOW!! factor. My adult daughter was with me and she said the same thing. Young children would probably be thrilled, but not adults. And I wanted to buy one of the hats, but it was $35 so I settled for a magnet ($6). And $5 for a pre-packaged hot dog. |

Amazing show. Review by: Pianist718, May 7, 2009 |
| Excellent show. They do have other productions that are a little better like Allegria and Drallion but this show is amazing as well. If you are a Cirque fan, you'll definitely enjoy this. I took a family of 8 with age range from 16 to 67. They all loved it. |

Cirque du prices over the top at the big top Review by: carlyn035, Apr 21, 2009 |
| i found the show to be very good but not truly fantastic, it did not have the wow factor like other cirque shows, unfortunately the only time you will say wow is when you see the price of parking &/or food. General Parking cost $25.00 per car, $12.00 for popcorn and a soda, and $25.00 for 2 hotdogs and 2 sodas. $9.50 for a glass of wine. The M35 Bus service is available from 125th st, but be prepared for alot of company on the bus. |
