Must See Dance...yes, you'll see! KCB did Kansas City proud. Review by: Lovethedance, Mar 15, 2008 |
Must see if in NYC this weekend. Extraordinary technique and performance in classical ballet, modern and jazz. This is a very talented dance company. Whitener's own piece, First Position, was an interesting idea to execute 'dance' in the eyes of a boy dancer. The music and choreography was luscious, whimsical, light and generated a warm response from the audience. I enjoyed a tribute to their artistic director's performance decades ago in ... read more Twyla Tharp's Brahms Paganini piece. Quite amazing both the soloist male (Part I) and the two couples in Part II. Wow ~ All of these dancers were exceptional. This piece hasn't been performed a great deal and I can see why. Very difficult, but unbelievably well-danced by this Company. Hey Hay, Goin' to Kansas City was a wonderful piece that completed the evening in style and in fun. Very fun; most entertaining! Donald McKayle again proved himself a national treasure, showing his versatility and sensitivity in paying tribute to KC Jazz and Big Band. The dancers did him proud: They were loose, fabulously in character and danced this joyous piece extremely well. I saw great strength and depth in both men and women dancers. Congratulations, Kansas City Ballet and the Joyce Theater. Hey, hey I'll be coming back for more when KCB's in town. |
