OMG! I have to see it again Review by: @TheOneEC3, Apr 4, 2011 |
| OMG! This play is the play of the century. I liked it so much. The acting was great and so was the singing. The story was pretty good but after a while you could figure out where it is going. I believe this play is so good, I would pay to see it again and again. I believe the actors were actually relating to the story. I laughed, I cried and had a good time. Usnavi's character was amazing. I beleve he and the actress who played Vanessa is ... read more following me on twitter. |

Get into IN The Heights Review by: Diract 66, Jan 4, 2011 |
| Rap makes it to Broadway in this musical as soon as the show starts with a long introduction to this section of the city and its people, but stick around even if you do not like hip hop because much of the music after, but not all, sticks to Broadway formula. This infusion of modern rap into the show makes it unique and a reason to see this successful combination of music styles. The story of this community was pretty typical and nothing ... read more really new. In fact, the outcome is never in doubt and very predictable. Three stories mixed together and then a lot of fast scenes at the end of the second act to have a 'dues ex machina'. The dancing was excellent in this show and the ensemble numbers were done well. The unit set design was also effective. Espanol in this play but not to distract. The actors make this show lively and emotional, not the music, which is mostly forgettable. It was a good start to this type of musical but I left wanting a better story for today to match the music of today. |

I am a passionate afficionado of theater, drama and musical theater in particular....i am a very harsh critic and i must confess that i have seen this play 12 times and will keep going until it leaves Broadway. It is a creative, thoughtful, envigorating, intelligent masterpiece. Disappointed Review by: G, Dec 9, 2010 |
| I understand everyone has an opinion and different tastes in theatre, but this mine. I saw In the Heights on 12/7/10 because I figured since its going off Bway in a month, why not? I went with my mom and we were both very excited. When the first scene started I thinking to myself "this is going to be a very LONG night." I know a lot of people who recommended it, but we had a horrible experience. Both of us fell asleep several times ... read more within the first act and left at intermission!! We were embarrassed walking out, but the show wasn't what we were expecting. The cast didn't really connect with us in our opinion. The dancing was great, but it would've been nice for the acting and singing to be that impressive. I've seen many Bway shows, but this definitely was one of the worst. If I could recommend a show it would be The Addams Family, Mary Poppins, Wicked, Momma Mia, etc. I wouldn't tell anyone to go out of their way to see In The Heights. |

A Must See! Review by: NB11, Nov 29, 2010 |
| LOVED this show. The music was fresh and new. A lot of the show is in Spanish but the context is good enough for a non-spanish speaking person like myself to understand. It is in my TOP shows along with Wicked, Legally Blonde, and Hairspray. Sit in the orchestra it is worth the extra money!! |

Go see it before it's too late!!! Review by: MatineeMama, Nov 9, 2010 |
| Just saw this show for the 4th time since it opened, and I can't say enough good things about it! If you love theatre and you love New York City, you must see this show before it closes in January! Although I live in the 'hood (Bronx), not in the barrio (Wash. Hts.), this show has meant a lot to me because it addresses the immigrant experience and the importance of education, hard work, family, friendship and faith in most folks' lives. The music ... read more and lyrics, by Lin-Manual Miranda, will thrill you and move you to tears. Sure, the story line is a simple one, but one that most everyone can relate to. The set is impressive, and the choreography will blow your socks off! Last, but not least, every cast I have seen has been loaded with talent, with the standouts being Olga Merediz (as Abuela Claudia), Andrea Burns (as Daniela), and of course, Lin-Manuel Miranda (as the original Usnavi). Definitely in my top 5 Broadway musicals of all time! |

See it before it's too late Review by: Patfly, Oct 27, 2010 |
I have lived in Manhattan for almost 25 years, and in that time I have attended the theater anywhere between twice a week and twice a month. That's a lot of shows. Without a doubt, "In the Heights" is my absolute favorite show. The energy and the music are fantastic. But the humanity of the show, the genuineness of the characters - all protagosnists, none of them perfect - the take-home family lessons of tolerance, perseverence, ... read more forgiveness, the true meaning of home and the importance of the people in our lives make this not only a great show to see, but a great one to share. I have seen it with my 13-year old about a dozen times and with my 6year old 4 times, and the show has been a vital part of our family life for the past 3 years. As of today, there are only about 10 weeks left to enjoy this masterpiece. What are you waiting for? |

Be surprised and entertained Review by: Kingdom fan, Sep 9, 2010 |
Middle aged Irish couple living in UK saw the show in N Y on 7rd, September 2010. Did not know what to expect. Enjoyed every minute from the Rap? opening scene to the best dancing ever. One of our favourite parts was played by the owner of the hairdressers who had us laughing out loud. What also makes Broadway shows great is the audiences who are less reserved than in Europe. Also saw Rock of Ages which was good but liked this better.... read more. |

Fantastic, Inspirational show. A must see ! Review by: Broadway Fanatic, Sep 3, 2010 |
| This show is fabulous! The storyline captures many of the struggles working-class families face as they chase the American dream. It's a story of adversity, hope and triumph, interspersed with a bit of romance. I think it's a must see for all, and college students especially. The music was so captivating that I had to buy the soundtrack, which I've never done at any other Broadway Show. I've seen the show twice so far. It is so inspirational! On ... read more the day I closed on my house (as a single parent) I went home, turned my CD player all the way up, with tears running down my face, as I sang along with the song,"Paciencia y Fe"! Disappointed. Would Not Go Aagain! Review by: Dylan, Aug 22, 2010 |
Wow! As I write this I see that there are over one hundred previous reviews submitted about this musical. Why didn't I take the trouble to read them before I purchased my tickets? I would have been much better prepared. My likes- I enjoyed the cast. I enjoyed the energy of the show. I enjoyed some of the music. My dislikes- I couldn't understand most of the heavily accented dialog (this was very disappointing) and I kept feeling as if this ... read more show was trying to be another West Side Story only with a much stronger Spanish accent. Not speaking Spanish, I felt as if I missed a lot of the storyline and a lot of the words in the music. Other dislikes- my knees were aching after the first 30 minutes and I was located in the front mezzanine section. I thought I had great seats but not so. Next time, it will be seats on the aisle for me! I must be able to stretch my legs, from time to time. Summary- I would not see this show again. Once was enough. Too much spanish accented English spoken for my old ears to understand. |
