The tones of LaBute's writing are completely lost in muddled direction and bored acting, not to mention horribe sound design. It is easy to see why Jason Patric backed out for "artisitc differences". He made the right decision. Scenes that were crafted by the author to be tense and intended to have the audience grasping the edge of their seats, falls flat. Instead the dialogue washs together until there out of the blew someone runs and yells ... read more in the other persons face.
It is difficult to find something good about this production. In the hands of a more capable director and actors the material could have been powerful. |

Neil LaBute's new show In A Dark Dark House is awesome!!!
The cast is great too! Ron Livingston (yeah "Office Space"!) and Frederick Weller ( The "Shape of Things" and I think most recently "Some Men")are incredible. There is one scene with Louisa Krause and she hits it perfectly.
This show will definitely have you talking!! Not depressing at all!! This play is intelligent, intriguing, a bit uncomfortable at times (it is a Neil ... read more LaBute play) and clever moments of humor. Even with all of the crazy stuff that happens, this play is still about the two brothers... family. The relationship between the brothers (Ron and Fred) is just so complicated and messed up, but I think we all can relate to at least a piece of what they are struggling with as a family.If you don't feel anything in the end of this play, you probably are not human.
I promise you will be discussing this show when you leave the theater!! It is a great NY Theater experience, go today! |
