A NIce Tight Play -Better than MOST of the Big Production Shows Review by: ROY022@AOL.COM, Nov 2, 2012 |
| A nice surprise! I usually see musicals when I'm in NY. But, I came to see it since Jake Gyllenhaall is in it. He was great by the way; so is the entire cast...Anyhow, I was swept into the story right away and I found myself thinking about days after... I recommended it to some friends who saw it Halloween night....Check it out, it's GOOD! |

Good Acting, Interesting Set - Stimulating Production of a Poor Play Review by: BroadwayBabySawIt, Oct 9, 2012 |
| An interesting evening at the theater. The acting is good for 3 of the 4 actors. Only the actress playing the mother seemed out of place and disinterested. Jake Gyllenhaal is very good, and worth seeing for his NY stage debut. The set was very interesting, and seemed to represent throwing out the clutter in life to get at the important issues, at least in our view of it. The lighting is superb, and really aids the action. The real let-down ... read more is the story, which is trying to do too much, so loses steam mid-way. It would have been better if it was just about bullying, or a marriage breaking down, or the responsibilities between family members, or about how tough it is to live your dream, or about teenage angst... but it's about all of that and more! But see it for 3 good actors, a daring set and lots of audience interpretations on the stairs leaving the theater! |

Find something else Review by: samhome, Oct 1, 2012 |
| I would not recommend this play. It was fair but not worth the money. The throwing of furniture got annoying. Jake Gyllenhal would not sign autographs after the show? Why? That is part of the Broadway experience. We paid to come see him, and it's not above him to come out. |

what acting! Review by: NYfan, Sep 8, 2012 |
| what acting! what a sensitive story about relations in the family. Every family has secrets and in this play, all the stories of this particular family; couple, their obese daughter and the brother of the husband is tearing the heart. so much agony! Actors are fabulous. |

| Disappointing. I think I needed a talk back to find out what the flooding of the stage was supposed to represent. Actors were fine but the story weak. |

Brilliant show, highly recommended! Review by: MissyM, Aug 29, 2012 |
| Funny and entertaining with enough substance to keep you thinking about it the next day. Amazing set design and super strong performances especially from Gyllenhaal and Funke. |
