Hugh Jackman is likable in a very ordinary show suited primarily for Hugh Jackman fans. Review by: Baltasar D. Cruz, Dec 1, 2011 |
This was an entertaining show, primarily because Hugh Jackman is an interesting and likable performer and his exchanges with the audience were intriguing, amusing and even touching, although Mr. Jackman's talents as a singer and dancer are not on the same level as those which can be seen in the typical Broadway musical. In particular, I did not think Mr. Jackman's dancing was at all remarkable and it was clearly not on the same level ... read more of the dancing in Anything Goes, which I saw earlier the same day. Also, some of his song selections were regrettable since most people will be familiar with far superior renditions of the better known songs he performed including, specifically, "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" (from Oklahoma!) and the Gene Kelly classic "Singing in the Rain"! Jackman's performance of the song "Singing in the Rain" on a dry stage was a blunt reminder that Mr. Jackman cannot dance nor sing anywhere near as well as did the late Gene Kelly. Nevertheless, when Mr. Jackman performed material which is less familiar, including a nice rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow in the style of Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole, with the beautiful vocalizations of one of his lovely back up singers during a photo montage of Australian wilderness scenes, or told personal stories he was far more entertaining. This show is really more about Hugh Jackman than the material he performs and if you like Hugh Jackman and want to hear him talk about himself and perform songs that apparently have some meaning to him, you will like the show. But if your primary interest is in seeing Broadway quality dancing and singing, you can easily find better dancing and singing in other shows. Also, at the end of the performance I attended, an auction was held to raise money for charity, during which Mr. Jackman auctioned off his sweaty sleeveless cotton undershirt, which he said he would sign. The bidding went like this: $1,000, $5,000, $6,000, $10,000! Mr. Jackman then offered the $6,000 bidder a second signed undershirt in a plastic bag for $6,000. Audience members could also join Mr. Jackman backstage to socialize with and have their picture taken with him for $2,000. I comment on this because I note that when I saw Mr. Jackman perform with Daniel Craig in "A Steady Rain" two years prior, Messrs. Jackman and Craig auctioned off their actual shirts (rather than their undershirts) and you could socialize with and have your picture taken with them for $1,500. At this rate, I imagine that in a couple of years, if Mr. Jackman is performing in another show, he will be auctioning off his socks or a handkerchief and charging $3000 for the privilege of socializing with and having your picture taken with him! In contrast, the following night, I saw "The Book of Mormon" (which featured superior singing and an actual story) and saw the cast auction off a poster signed by the entire cast with a script signed by the three authors for a total of $1100! |

I am totally in love Review by: gngal, Nov 16, 2011 |
OMG what a performance. There aren't enough adjectives in the English language to describe the magic Hugh Jackman brings to Broadway. The dancing, the singing, the radiant smile... every act brought down the house. This man is truly gifted. BTW - the theater was great. Even the Ladies' room line-up (which is normally a disaster) was up to the task. |

A No Brainer, Go See Hugh Jackman Review by: Lola, Nov 13, 2011 |
What can't this man do??? Sing, yes he does....dance, yes he does....make you laugh, yes he does....make you cry, yes he does..... I saw his portrayal of Peter Allen twice, so there was nothing to think about. I knew I was in for a treat, and quickly grabbed up discounted tickets on this site. |

FABULOUS/WONDERFUL/TOUCHING/FUNNY it was a wonderful day on Broadway for my husband and me. What a great way to celebrate my birthday! Saw Boy from Oz several times. This is as great. There were people teary eyed near me after the tribute to Australia. Thank you, Hugh. Hurry back to Broadway. Pennsylvania Hugh Jackman fan |

I can only agree with what previous reviewers have said. I also want to say the choice of the Broadhurst for this show is brillent. Smaller than some of the others, it allows everyone a great view. I read somewhere he has a ten million dollar advance on this show, no one will be disappointed. He is an amazing talent the best of his generation and I too have seen them all. The musical choices were terrific! What a show!!!! And he ... read more stands outside by the stagedoor to meet his fans , he is a class act. |

| Saw Hugh Jackman last week-end. Slogged through horrible NYC weather to be enchanted and mesmerized by one of the greatest entertainers of the century. Not an exaggeration...he is spectacular in every way. His voice, his dancing skills, his ease with the audience all add up to one of the greatest entertainment experiences of my life. I've seen them all....from Sinatra to Davis to Garland, et al. He's in a class by himself, class being the ... read more operative word. What a guy! AND he's gorgeous! Do not miss this show of a lifetime. |

Hugh, have to love him! Review by: broadwayfrannyk, Oct 27, 2011 |
| Saw Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway last night. After great anticipation, the show lived up to and exceeded my expectations....which were very high! Hugh is a dynamic performer who connects in a magical way with the audience. He is charismatic but sweet and makes you feel that you are part of an intimate gathering where he is just hanging out with you and happens to be performing songs at the same time. He has picked wonderful Broadway show tunes ... read more to sing and dance to. It is his comments during the show, the way he talks to the audience and brings you in that makes him so special. He is an unbelievable singer and dancer. After all his hard work, he always stays and signs autographs too, what a guy! Did I mention that he is gorgeous ?!!! |

Bravo Mr. Jackman, Bravo! Review by: Chubby Theater Goer, Oct 26, 2011 |
| This is probably the most entertaining show on Broadway right now. A total must see. Hugh Jackman is truly one of the greatest entertainers of all time and I'm not even his agent. The man has such charisma and ease with the audience, you would think he is a natural stand-up comedian. His vocals will make any Broadway veteran jealous and he can dance pretty well, too. Is there anything this man cannot do? I don't think so. Best of all, ... read more off-stage, he is very down-to-earth and like a regular guy. You can see how much his fans love him at opening night when the whole block and adjacent block is just flooded with people waiting for him to come out the backstage door. |
