A good old fashion song and dance musical Review by: MH75, Mar 12, 2012 |
I am skeptical when it comes to celebrity casting, why does a show need to cast big names to get people in? However, I found How to Success, to be a revival of a good old fashioned song and dance musical. Nick Jonas and Beau Bridges bring some class to this show, without them, it would still be a good show. It is a revival so some of the content is a bit dated, particularly "a secretary is not a toy" and some references ... read more to typewriters and other items of the era that younger audiences would not understand. Overall a good story, well produced and a talented ensemble cast backing a new great performances by big name talent The one dissapointing aspect, was the behaviour of the audience, the large number of people that rushed out of the theatre as soon as the curtain fell, and did not stay for the cirtain calls. Must be disappointing for the cast to see so many empty seats in the front bit of the theatre. It seemed mainly to be teenage girls who were doing this |

Surprising energetic, good, cheeky fun. Review by: BlondonBroadway, Mar 10, 2012 |
| How to Succeed isn't really a dance-heavy show, so good on this production for going there in a way that's neither gimmicky nor overdone. Ashford's production injects so much life into this aging show, you can't help but leave on a high. Also one of the best looking shows I've ever seen. |

Nick Jonas is adorable. Thats about it. Review by: Sueec59, Feb 25, 2012 |
| Saw this show tonite. Had a hard time staying awake. Yes Nick Jonas is adorable. First act was a huge snore. Second act was ok. Song "I Believe In You" was fine. Beau Bridges was ok. If you are going to spend $70 - $80 go see Rock of Ages. |

Cute costumes, fun show Review by: Wadsworth, Feb 20, 2012 |
Saw this with a teen girl - Kids Night on Broadway. I was prepared for an audience of teen girls to see Nick Jonas. No so much. Of course the show is sexist, I had to explain some things to the teen, oh how different the 60's were! A Secretary is Not a Toy! Costumes cute, music good, fun show. We both enjoyed the show. Jonas did a nice job with the singing, had a hard time keeping up with the dancing. Beau Bridges was good, although ... read more no dancing there either - he knows his limits. Michael Urie (from Ugly Betty) stole the show! He is a fantastic actor; he is on his way for bigger and better things! It's unusual to see a Broadway show with more dancing male roles than females, nice job men!

This show was so much fun! From the sets to the plot, to the acting, it was very enjoyable. If the show has a weakness, it's the music, which besides, "I Believe in You," weren't very memorable. I realize that this show is set in the 1960's, but as a woman, it was hard for me to laugh at the offensive number, "A Secretary is not a Toy." Plus, the female characters' ambitions all involved marriage. I can't understand why the show ... read more wasn't updated, or the "Secretary" song nixed from the show. I did find the plot very timely with the economy in the toilet to see how one man rises in the company strictly by flattering the right people. |

Dan Rad Delivers Review by: dietgrl, Dec 30, 2011 |
| This show was well worth seeing. Most of the lead actors are not professional quality singers however, they made up for this with good acting and personality(Tammy Blanchard, John Laroquette, Dan Radcliffe). Dan was surprisingly effective, he projected his voice well and kept up with the athletic dancing. The producers must have sent him to musical theater bootcamp before this show came to broadway. He fit the part of a young,... read more, ambitious guy wanting to make it to the top of the wicket company. The show is dated, however. The female leads are all secretaries with ambitions no higher than "Happy to Keep His Dinner Warm" Rosemary's pretty show-stopper song. I know, I know, the show is circa 1960's and this was how a lot of women earned their living in the work force. Still, lots of fun. |

DANIEL RADCLIFF IS "THE TOP" Out of the 6 shows I saw in my week in New York, this was the top. Daniel is so full of energy and it is great to see him in a totalkly different role from Harry Potter. Great singing and dancing from the moment he "elevated" onto the stage. The whole cast is brilliant and it is such fun it leaves you with a real good feeling. Worth every penny for a seat cente stalls 4th row from the stage. |

Fun! Review by: katepang, Dec 5, 2011 |
| It was enjoyable! The sets and costumes were so adorable (but that may just be my bias for 1960s fashion!) and vibrant. Daniel Radcliffe sings SO MUCH BETTER THAN I EXPECTED, but he's really just fine for what you'd expect a Broadway male lead singer to sound like. Very funny, but when I saw it (October, Saturday Matinee) there was a lot of gimmicky ad-libbing that stopped being funny after the first 5 times. It's also pretty sexist, but ... read more that's the 60s for you. |

I absolutely love this show! Review by: Manhattanite, Nov 29, 2011 |
| I've seen "How to Succeed..." several times and it just keeps getting better and better. Everything about it is fantastic -- the music, the sets, the costumes, the dancing, and most of all, the wonderful cast! Daniel Radcliffe was a pleasant surprise. I knew he could act, but he sings, he dances, he does comedy, and he's very good! John Larroquette is very funny, as always, and he and Dan make a terrific team. Chris Hanke is wonderful as a ... read more kind of loveable villain, and Tammy Blanchard is also very funny as Hedy LaRue. The chorus dancers are incredible as they perform Rob Ashford's marvelous choreography. I highly recommend you see this show while Dan R. and John L. are still in it (till Jan. 1). It's a wonderful night (or afternoon) of theater. |

See It for Dan Review by: NYC Boy, Oct 27, 2011 |
I really enjoyed the show, although it's a bit dated. If you accept that going in, then just enjoy the very talented cast (especially the male dancers) and the music. I cannot believe that Dan Radcliffe was not even nominated for a Tony award for this performance. He was absolutely delightful and more than held his own against the entire cast. On an adorability scale of 1-10, I give him a 37. I also saw Daniel in "Equus" and he was ... read more fabulous. So he is definitely not just a one-note wonder as Harry. A very talented young man and the main reason to see the show. |

Happiest Show on Broadway Review by: Chubby Theater Goer, Oct 27, 2011 |
| Radcliffe may be the hardest working actor right now and you would agree if you saw this production of How to Succeed in Business. He's no triple threat, but tries very hard. His vocals are passable but needs more improvement in his theater movement and dancing. He seems physically restricted and not quite comfortable but proves hardly a problem because of the very talented supporting cast and amazing choreography. The ending "Brotherhood of ... read more Man" showstopper is the best I've seen in any of the recent shows out there. The audience is standing up on their feet and literally clapping for ten minutes after that number. The story is classic and it is just impossible not to walk out the theater with a smile. |

ONe of the Best Shows I have Seen in a long time Review by: peter, Sep 14, 2011 |
| I go to the theater every other week and pretty much enjoy what I see. However, this prodcution was one of the best shows I have seen in a very long time. The cast is the hardest working group of people on Broadway. Daniel Radcliffe is perfectly cast. John Larroquette is the perfect foil. Tammy Blanchard is superb. The rest of the cast is great. This is a must see....I walked out loving this show. |
