Best Show Yet Review by: Chloe, May 13, 2006 |
| Not only was Hot Feet an incredible show, but it beat out shows like Mamma Mia! The dancing was INCREDIBLE, and the girl who played Kalimba was AMAZING, I have never seen a more incredible dancer. Also, Samantha Pollino was incredible as well. How did they find such an amazing young dancer? If you're thinking about a broadway show, this is definitely an incredible choice... I am usually one to dislike plays, but Hot Feet was one that I could ... read more only enjoy... you have GOT to see this show!! |

Vivian Nixon Review by: XIII, May 12, 2006 |
| From the moment this show started, I was immediately turned off because if I had to sit through another disaster like "Movin' Out", I was going to have to storm the stage. Fortunately the storyline was captivating, the dancing tremendous and the music was outstanding. Now I am by no means a Broadway buff, so I know nothing of the bigger stars and such, but I will say the female who lead the production was the most amazing thing I had ever seen.... read more. Vivian Nixon had my eye the whole time, from beginning to end. A great dancer and an even better performer made the whole show worthwhile. |

THE HOTTEST DANCE SHOW SINCE 42ND STREET!!!!!!!!!! Review by: terrydances, May 5, 2006 |
| This is the best dance show since 42nd Street! The dancers were fabulous with tons of talent. Ann Duquesnay brought tears to my eyes. Wynonna Smiths performance was hilarious, she was delightful. Allan Hidalgo and Samantha Pollino had the best chemistry and we would like to see them more. Now where did they get this talented girl Samantha Pollino? Not having much stage time she captured your attention from the moment that she set foot on the ... read more stage and at that end she shows you just how much she loves to dance. Hot Feet is a great dance show!!!!!!!! Review by: Terry, May 4, 2006 |
| It's nice to see another great dance show on Broadway! Ann Duquenay's singing was soulful, we should hear more. The dancing was fantastic with wonderful costumes. Keith David and Wynonna Smith give great performances however Allan Hildalgo(Louie) and Samantha Pollino (Emma) won for chemistry. They make you want to see them more! Actually Samantha Pollino is such a joy to watch, where did they get her? Being a dancer myself I so reccomend seeing ... read more this show. |

Serpentine Fire at its best... Review by: Avidtheatregoer, May 4, 2006 |
| I attended Hot Feet during previews on April 22nd and thoroughly enjoyed the production from a front row seat. It was energized from start to finish...Vivian Nixon definitely inherited her mother's (Debbie Allen) dancing abilities. The entire ensemble was just as entertaining and blended well together. I bet Earth,Wind and Fire would commend the band (especially the brass sect.) The sound was as authentic as what I've heard at MANY ... read more of their concerts. At times I did find the storyline a little weak. There seemed to be many similarities to A Chorus Line. More importantly, I viewed this production as a dance show NOT a drama. Critics leave the acting comments to the Shakespeare like productions. After seeing Hot Feet I went home and ordered more tickets for a return visit. If high schools are putting on performances like this NOW then I would like to know where? Kudos to both Maurice's and I pray Hot Feet will STOMP on Broadway for a longtime just where it should be!!! |

Heart Stomping and Phenomenal !! Review by: Pammy, May 1, 2006 |
| Personally, I truly enjoyed Hot Feet! The opening act left me dancing and clapping in my seat. I found the costumes to be very colorful and totally appropriate for each act.I was mostly impressed by the dancing and acting ability of Vivian Nixon. This was Miss Nixon's debut on Broadway and I think she passed with flying colors. I loved the music as well as the choreography, but did find the plot to be a little weak. Otherwise, the show was ... read more nearly perfect and gets 4 out 5 stars. If you enjoy the music of Earth, Wind and Fire, and love modern dance, then you will enjoy Hot Feet. And yes, I will pay to see the show again. |

Fabulous dancing- What bodies! Story line was a little weak; reminded me of A Chorus Line. I highly recommend this if you like the music of Earth, Wind, and Fire. I didn't look at my watch at all - very entertaining. The lead female dancer was phenomenal!!

Two Words Review by: Avid Theatre Goer, Apr 28, 2006 |
Just awful.
Show features dancing that someone attemptedto tie to EW&F songs - conceptually sounds great but we found orchestra flat and the singers could not hit the notes and music just sounded canny. May have been better if singers were on stage. The story line is horrendous and people were walking out left and right. May be fun for some audience but overall seemed amateurish and fit for a high school production. but not |

This was a great concert--Broadway show? Needs work. Review by: bbp, Apr 25, 2006 |
| I purposely came to the show with no expectations and was blown away with the choreography in the begining but then they started to act and that was sub-par; The only person worth watching was Keith David who played Victor Serpentine/Cletus Jones. As we got into the story it got predicatable and fizzled by the end. But if you like th EW&F you would love the music arrangements. If you like hot bodies and attractive people you would ... read more really enjoy the dancing. Again this would have made a good off Broadway show, or a dance concert, but not worth Broadway prices. |

dissapointing show!!! Review by: Shelley, Apr 25, 2006 |
| I agree with most of the other negative reviews. Too long, too amatuerish, not enough story line, not Broadway worthy. I love dance and Earth Wind and Fire so found this show rather dissapointing. The dances became so long and repetative. This show needs a major overhaul if it wants to stay on Broadway. |

Good Show, but not sure it's strong enough for Broadway Review by: Chase, Apr 24, 2006 |
I saw the 4/23 matinee in NYC, and I had mixed feelings. I will say I'm thankful I didn't pay full price for my ticket. I sat in the third row orchestra section (front and center).
While I liked most of the dancing/choreography, it just didn't resonate with me like some other Broadway shows have (e.g. Bring the Noize, Bring the Funk, Stomp, Sophisticated Ladies, Bubbling Brown Sugar, etc). The dancers were quite capable and very talented,... read more, but none of the routines really stood out for me. Some of the dancers looked extremely nervous, which was disappointing because I was looking for a certain confidence and energy needed to carry the show.
The role of Kalimba was performed by the understudy and her acting left much to be desired. But, she's an excellent dancer. While the show is not meant to be a dramatic production, the storyline/writing was a bit tepid and lacked the substance needed to really bring everything together. Nonetheless, the other performers really saved the acting portions of the show...they were all hilarious when they needed to be, and compelling at other times.
I thought the band was amazing and did a fabulous job! I think they found wonderful vocalists who handled the rigor of the songs well. I wasn't disappointed with any of the music. In addition to the 3-4 brand new songs written for the musical, there are about 4 "obscure" ones that die-hard EW&F fans (like me) will recognize easily.
Long story short, I liked the show but I'm not sure it's strong or interesting enough for Broadway. Honestly I think it would have been better for Off-Broadway.

This show will turn EWF into "Dirt, Blows and Burnt" Review by: September21, Apr 24, 2006 |
My husband and I are HUGE Earth, Wind and Fire fans. We got married on September 21st because September is our favorite song so imagine our joy in learning that there would be a new B'way show set to the band's music. Unfortunately, joy turned into shock and awe at the preview performance on April 23rd. The story is dreadful and amateurish. The dancing, while impressive, truly became repetitive because we were seeing the same moves over and over ... read more again. The costumes were frightening -- silver and black and scary. The acting was horrific.
The original EWF songs were wonderful but we would have loved to see the band/performers on stage singing rather than hidden in the pit. Truly, it is the music that got us to pay $200+ for tickets, not the lame high school story.
I noticed people walking out of the theatre in the middle of the 2nd act. People were laughing at how ridiculous the show was.
The ending was creepy and lame. Broadway audiences are very sophisticated and savvy and are going to catch up very quickly that this show has bad buzz. It really had the potential. Rewrite the story -- do something happy and uplifting and a true love story and find some true triple threats (there are so many out there). I thought Vivian was a great dancer (why is it a secret that her mom is Debbie Allen?) but her acting made all of us laugh (not her intention). The devil storyline was lame lame lame. Poor Keith David. The Maurices must have forced him to do this.
Save your money and buy some of EWF's excellent concert DVDs and see a real entertaining performance.
What a bummer this show was! |

I would see it again! Hot Feet is Hot! Review by: Anyonebut, Apr 23, 2006 |
| I saw Hot Feet in NYC on April 22. This show is hot! I can assure you the band is very live. I sat in the front row at the pit. These are the most talented dancers I've seen in a long time. I compare the show to Moving Out which was wildly popular but had no storyline and poor dancing. Hot Feet is the opposite. It was well danced and the performances from the main characters were outstanding. This is a dance lover's dream play. ... read more Forget intense drama. It's a musical for goodness sake and extremely entertaining. We wondered about the choreography however. It really looked like Debbie Allen rather than Maurice Hines who is a tapper. We debated that afterwards. The light effects and frequent costume and dance changes made it a joy. Vivian Nixon is a fabulous dancer and the daughter of Debbie Allen. Hmmmm! She really didn't have to sing. The show was about the dancing. Allen Hidalgo stole the show as the devil. Michael Balderrama was perfect and had lots of chemistry with Vivian. I just love Keith David no matter what he does.It is a must see with lots of fun! For boring intense drama, go see Three Days of Rain! |

Is This What Broadway Has to Offer Now for Dance? Review by: , Apr 22, 2006 |
Is This What Broadway Has to Offer Now for Dance? - by Josie2 on April 22, 2006
I saw Hot Feet tonight on Broadway, and thank God my ticket was a comp and I did not have to pay for it. I am a dancer, so I give props to the dancers for all their hard work and talent. However, the choreography did not fully showcase the abilities of these dancers. The choreography was predictable and like everything else that is out there. Hot Feet ... read more reminded me of a high school recital. Earth, Wind and Fire music is so hot, and the choreography did the music no justice. All the dancers did were kick their legs around, show their extensions, and perform a few pop video hip-hop moves. I wanted them to just get loose and DANCE! So we all know they have beautiful extensions and can do triple pirouettes, but there was no fire and no originality in the choreography. It is not the dancers' fault. The choreography was lacking in any type of creativity.
