Forget It! Review by: Carol, Dec 11, 2006 |
| What a waste of acting talent! I am a Roundabout subscriber and will probably quit after this dismal season and production. My husband and I left at intermission, as did half the audience. Shaw reads better than he plays for the most part, and why this play was mounted remains a mystery. |

Great actors but a dull play Review by: stagestrucknyc.com, Oct 19, 2006 |
| Shaw put way too much symbolism and clever dialogue, not enough genuine feeling into this play. It left me cold. A waste of the talents of some fine actors. And all that clever dialogue was drowned out at various times by incredibly loud motorcycles in the street -- NYC should not permit the street outside Bway theaters to be used as a drag strip or parking lot for noisy motorcycles. |

| I don't agree with the poor reviews at all. We did have excellent seats and could see and hear everything, but we enjoyed the story, the show and the acting very much. We felt as if we had good value from it. (Frankly, I thought Lily Rabe was pleasant but a bit much.) |

I don't fully understand why most of these veteran actors on stage don't know how to project their voices in such a beautiful theatre. But I suppose this "hailed director" has taken more liberties with George Bernard Shaw than we care to even explain.
I would seriosuly reconsider before going to this play specifically because you love Swoosie Kurts and Phillip Bosco alone. The actors deliver roles that seem to be far beyond their means ... read more and end up falling flat across the stage for all of us. Nothing is truly believed except Lily Rabe and even she is on the stage so short of a time you seriously doubt your feelings about her.
Theatre is supposed to be languid and visceral and not meandering and banal. I don't if it IS George Bernard Shaw, I don't want to feel as if these beautifully scripted lines are given to me with marbles in their mouth and no heart into the text.
If you see it, I challenge you to tell me why Byron Jennings was the playboy the script claims he was. Or why Laila Robins would even allow such a beast on top of her. |

| dull, dull and almost three hours long. maybe this was the hight of sophistication at the turn of the previous century , but it seems silly and obvious now. swoozie kurtz whom i usually enjoy seemed like she wondered into the wrong theater . her accent, costume , and overacting would have been more appropriate to the old carol burnett show. |
