Don't leave at intermission - the SECOND act is not to be missed Review by: Darin, Mar 22, 2007 |
This was the most interesting "musical" I have ever seen. To be honest we almost left at intermission. The first act seemed to be a boring 1940's scene study with horrible music. BUT, the second act was brillant. I loved the music in the second act. It was a total 360 from the first act. I was so enthused watching Christine and Mary. Grey Gardens is a gem. I do like " Jerry likes my corn " . Thanks for a great evening. |

Very pleased Review by: Sandy, Mar 20, 2007 |
| I was not sure if I was going to enjoy this, but I was wrong. I really really liked it. It was different from a lot of the shows I have seen lately. Ebersole's performance was probably the best live performance I have ever seen, and the rest of the cast did not dissapoint either. I would definitely suggest seeing this show. |

Unmissable Review by: Eoghan, Mar 17, 2007 |
| On my visit to NY last week this was the first show I had booked to see. As the show progressed I kept thinking of how friends who had seen this had warned me that it has the power to bring tears to your eyes - they were spot on. Unquestionably one of the finest performances I have ever seen an actress in musical give (in over 35 years of theatre going) was that of Christine Ebersole. Justice has to prevail with the TONY Awards this year ... read more as Broadway honours a performance of beauty and intelligence rarely seen. Tears flow and the images stay and I was proud to leep to my feet in appreciation and add my cheers to the roar which was coming from the audience for an afternoon of pure theatre and talent which Broadway should be so proud of and which will be remembered for years to come. |

Broadway Doesn't Get Better Than This Review by: BigKen, Mar 11, 2007 |
| This is the BEST of Broadway, and Christine Ebersole HAS to win the Tony for her performance. It's like the Beales were reincarnated. I hate crying in public, but there I was a 300+ pound guy, wearing a Penn State football jacket with tears running down my cheeks during the last song. Minutes before I was laughing out loud! This show brings out ALL the emotions. It was my second viewing and certainly not my last... |

Future Legends Review by: FrankB, Feb 20, 2007 |
This show is an amazing musical. The music sounds like that of a bygone era so beautiful, haunting and funny. The same can be said for the whole experience, the characters stayed with me for days after the show was over. The performance of the leading ladies, Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson are the stuff of Broadway legend. In nearly 30 years as a theatre goer I have never seen better or more memorable musical ... read more performances than these two. Bravo. |

Review by: MUSICAL MANIAC, Feb 17, 2007 |
| I saw the original NYC cast on Broadway. I went to NYC for a school trip and when we went to see this show I was kinda skeptical. But I was wrong. This show is AMAZING. By the end of the show I was bawling. It's MUST SEE. Though I'm only 13 I know a good show when I see one. The BEST song is 'Jerry Likes My Corn' |

The NYT reviewer was wrong Review by: Broadway Bob, Jan 29, 2007 |
| We went in with such high expectations and were so disappointed . The music was awful. Nothing to remember. And who would write a show about two poor, pathetic women living out their final years? The best was the laugh I had during the song about corn! Was she kidding with that? I can't imagine this will last. Thank God we got our tix for half price!!!! |

Fantastic Review by: Andy, Jan 19, 2007 |
| The whole cast of Grey Gardens was really spectacular. Although the only standout was obviously Christine Ebersole. In the song Another Winter in a Summer Town, you could see Christine start to cry. That really moved me and it was very poignant to watch. That is a sign of a really fantastic actor. Im a fan of the movie and the show really gave it justice. The first act is a little too long but it was a really nice setup for the second. The ... read more theatre and the sets are small which adds an intimate feeling to the show. I always got sort of bored without big glamorous sets. This show is perfect with the small sets. The score was really beautiful and was someehat similar to The Light in The Piazza. I would reccomend this show to anybody who really feels passionate about theatre and can feel strong emotion. |

Second act seals the deal Review by: Jim S, Jan 16, 2007 |
I attended the Barnes and Noble performance and CD signing two hours before seeing the show, so I had a taste of the music going in. Turns out what they showcased was all first act and to be honest, the second act is the selling point. The first act, while good, is all set up for the second, which blows you away emotionally.
Christine Ebersole is great throughout, but especially as Edie in act two...she makes it one of those roles you ... read more can't see anyone playing--it's than indelible. Mary Louise Wilson is also first-rate.

I've Seen It 4 Times-Gets better Each Time! Review by: Lil Edie, Jan 12, 2007 |
This 20 year theater veteran has never seen anything as powerful or breathtaking as Christine Ebersole's awesome performance in Grey Gardens. She is enough reason to see this show. But, what makes it even better is the story-any mother and daughter can identify on a certain level with this story. The supporting cast, led by the incomparable Mary Louise Wilson, is incredible as well. I hope this show gets all the Tonys it deserves-best actress, ... read more hands down, and featured actress. I feel it should get best musical-it's the most original idea I've seen succesfully translated on stage in ages.

Edith and Edie would be proud! Review by: Double A, Jan 9, 2007 |
An extraordinary theatre event! Christine Ebersole broke my heart (at a Saturday matinee, no less!) As a fan of the 1975 documentary by the Maysles brothers, I was not disappointed. The script by Doug Wright and the music and lyrics brilliantly incorporated the real Beales' dialogue from the film. Mary Louise Wilson was brilliant, too, and the supporting cast was superb.
I am seeing it again. It is a MUST for all women--- |

Run, don't walk for tickets Review by: DMS, Dec 26, 2006 |
| It will be a long time before Broadway sees a performance like Christine Ebersole's again. The change in her from Act 1 to 2 is a total metamorphosis - like seeing a totally different person. Mary Louise Wilson is great too. May not appeal to the audience expecting an old fashioned song and dance musical, but you must see Ebersole's tour de force if you see anything on Broadway this season. |

Great show, fine performances Review by: snuffy88, Dec 14, 2006 |

Go for the character study...a drama with music. Review by: Leen, Dec 11, 2006 |
| I agree that this was more like a drama than a musical. I found it a very interesting study of relationships interplay of egos, co-dependence, roads taken and not taken. The first act sets up the second so well, that if I had just seen Act One, I would have missed the impact. The fact that it is based on a real life story makes it all the more facinating. It was one of the better shows I have seen this season...but I would not recommend it for ... read more anyone except adults. The relationships are too complex (and probably totally uninteresting) for anyone under the "mature adolescent" category. The acting is solid; the music is good, specific, and just in service of the play...not "buy this soundtrack" memorable; however, it is the character study that is the reason to see it. |
