Wonderful Music and Unique Venue Review by: tracdev, May 6, 2012 |
This was our first show that we have seen at the "Circle in the Square" Theatre. The venue is unique in that the stage is a circle, surrounded by the audience. We had front row seats and really enjoyed the show. The singing and the songs were great, very moving, touching. It seemed as if the show was updated from the original production and included references to current events, famous personalities and a few lines from recent pop music. ... read more Having said that the original score remained intact and was beautifully performed. This was a real fun show at times there was minor audience participation and, being in the front row, a few times a couple of the actors talked to my wife and I, in character. This was a very memorable and enjoyable show, highly recommended.

BleuJesus blew me away! Review by: BleuFan, Apr 28, 2012 |
| Corbin Bleu is fantastic as Jesus, and the rest of the cast and musicians are all fabulous. I know nothing about the bible so some of the show was over my head, but regardless, it was extremely entertaining and SO much fun! Go see it! |

I'll be back to see this show again! Review by: DOLLYPOP, Apr 6, 2012 |
I loved this GODSPELL!!! It may be the most talented cast I've ever seen in this show and the staging is downright brilliant for theater-in-the round. Hunter Parrish's rendition of "Beautiful city" was the highlight of the show for me. GODSPELL is great family entertainment. Go see it! |

Great Revival Review by: Nedracine, Mar 4, 2012 |
I saw the original Broadway production 40 years ago and was afraid this might be a mere rehash. I was wrong! This recent incarnation is fresh, vibrant, and newly relevant. Lots of updated contemporary humor. Interesting and diverse costuming. As far as lighting and staging, I felt it was just perfect. What stuck me continuously throughout the show was just how clever it was in both dialogue and props. The singing was fabulous! ... read more A familiarity with the New Testament and parables of Jesus will certainly help in understanding the plot, but not absolutely necessary. As far as political humor goes, they should also work the President into the plot too. Nedracine |

Get the discount tickets, and go for the great voices Review by: siouxsiedc, Jan 4, 2012 |
| We took the whole family with discount tickets, and that's definitely the way to see this one. The other reviewers make clear, this isn't a traditional Broadway show, but the singing is excellent, as is the score and the orchestra. I thought Hunter Parrish was a bit bland as Jesus, but my daughter strongly disagreed! (she was also thrilled to death that one of the actors was in "Glee") You don't have to be Christian to enjoy the show (we're ... read more not); it's just wholesome entertainment, appropriate for the whole family, even if not everyone gets the pop-culture references. |

Doesn't Belong on Broadway Review by: DN, Dec 15, 2011 |
There are reasons that this show has been a staple of high school and regional productions for years: there is no scenery, thrift store costumes, and the cast looks and acts like fifteen year olds, which is probably not much younger than most of them really are. This show might be cute if performed off-Broadway or in a church basement, but to be on Broadway and at Broadway prices--I felt like I was had. I felt like I was seeing pre-teens ... read more playing at dress up. |

A Great Show for Everyone! Review by: Inspired, Nov 16, 2011 |
Godspell is a joy! An incredible 2 1/2 hours of entertainment, inspiration, great songs, blast off voices on the cast and something magical... The magic is seeing audiences of every age and every background respond. The one small segment that does not get Godspell are folks that want to see traditional theater. They do not want to be touched across the audience/stage line. But, that is what makes this so powerful. Kids, ... read more adults, seniors, US and international folks get it. Go today - and be inspired. What a great show for these times. |

Review by: Bklyndaddy, Nov 7, 2011 |
In an effort to be hip and current the dialogue is a painful mix of Donald Trump, Charlie Sheen references which simply do not work. At one point a disciple resembling Oprah says "You get a Messiah, You get a Messiah, You get a Messiah". The show to see Review by: Robert, Oct 31, 2011 |
| I brought some friends to Godspell and we were amazed how a revival can keep the integrity of the original show yet be updated to fit into todays messages. The cast was energetic and so confortable in the roll that made the audience be pulled into the show. The interaction with the staging and sharing of wine at intermission on stage with the cast was a great treat. We are looking forward to seeing the show again. |

Godspell - A Fresh, Young, Hip Production Back on Broadway! Review by: doug, Oct 29, 2011 |
| Godspell is a timeless show and yet continues to evolve and grow with each new production. Back on Broadway after 30+ years - you will be treated to a classic with a fresh twist. WOW!!!! Review by: Broadway Fan 18, Oct 28, 2011 |
| I caught a preview and was I ever impressed! The inventiveness and freshness of this show is unparalleled. It's both current and timeless and both hysterically funny and heart-wrenchingly moving. The cast is amazingly talented. For me, a special shoutout to Wallace Smith, who plays Judas. He is just plain phenomenal (and not bad to look at either). The direction is tight, so there's never a dull moment--and there are lots of surprises (of ... read more which I will give away none). I can't wait to see it again and again. |
