another HORRIFIC Review. Review by: TJ, Nov 27, 2007 |
| Not even top performers can save this HORRIFIC show. Save your money. Amateur if best. Bad music. Poor direction/staging. Advice if you go: leave at intermission and call it an early night. |

Sticks to the serious story Review by: mr_joe, Nov 25, 2007 |
Sticking wonderfully to Mary Shelly's book the cast does a wonderful job with this work, and produces a very emotional and moving musical. This is not fun show, but rather good, serious theater. The music written is a bit confused where about it wanted to go and the occasional wailing guitar seemed out of place. Victor Frankenstein's (played wonderfully by Hunter Foster) relationships with family, lovers, and of course with the creature ... read more are all explored in depth. The show is a not a light fluffy night of entertainment but it is good, and being off-broadway, the show is working with minimal but effective set. Great voices on all cast members. Some video screens but thank goodness they are not overly depended on, and when used are used tastefully.

An Abomination Review by: Maadness, Nov 25, 2007 |
| A horrible show. When did Frankenstein's creature turn into Jim Morrison; leather pants and all? Hey Hunter, perhaps you can replace Roger Bart in "Young Frankenstein" when he leaves that show. |

very talented actors and singers - going back for thirds. Review by: guslov, Nov 4, 2007 |
I have seen Frankenstein twice, once on the very first night of previews and another on the night after it opened. I returned simply because I enjoyed the music and its delivery even though I was not that amazed at the general look of the show. Lots of improvements happened between that first night and the second, so it looks like the show's creators continue to tweak it and move it to be even better.... read more. If you are looking for awesome special effects and sheer horror you are going to the wrong show. If you are looking for heartbreaking originality and brilliance on a show that will be a trend setter for decades to come, you are going to the wrong show. What this production of 'Frankenstein' does and does very well in my opinion is put a great story in the hands of some very gifted actors and singers who deliver some very moving music. I will go back to see it again, and hope that an original cast album gets recorded and released. |

Very good, vast improvement Review by: I.M., Nov 1, 2007 |
I have seen this show twice, I went to one of the first previews and then another preview a few nights before opening.
The music is superb, the actors do a really good job (Steve Blanchard's body language as the creature is excellent), the set is minimalistic but works really well due to the actors and the light. The only complaint is that the story can be slightly slow at some points during the show.
Once again, great cast and ... read more great music to a classic story. Go see it |

Geographical Error Review by: maggie, Oct 31, 2007 |
Hello, I was disappointed about the geographical mistake, and the missinformation! The show writer/producer did not check the exact location of Breslau,(today Wroclaw in Poland). In the second half of the show, the main characters travel through Europe. According to this show's map, the town of Breslau (Wroclaw) is located in the northern Poland. The makers of this show obviously did not research enough, and did not check that Breslau (or ... read more Wroclaw) ic located in the south west part of Poland; NOT THE NORTH! |

Horrific!! Review by: tony, Oct 30, 2007 |
| I don't know what show everyone else is reviewing but this is hands down one of the worst shows I've seen in years. I saw this show last week and one can judge this show just on the fact that a quarter of the audience seemed to have left at intermission. Basically, the show had no character development, a soundtrack that loved to utilize a 1980s synthesizer and the story just seemed to slit its wrists in the beginning and then continue ... read more to slice the wound. Way too overdramatic. Stephen Blanchard was embarrassingly overacting and many people in the rows surrounding me were laughing at inappropriate moments because of the unbelievably melodramatic and forced book. During Act 2, my entire section could hear as an older woman muttered, "Jesus Christ" out of sheer boredom and disguist. I'm glad that someone else noticed that the two stars, Hunter Foster and Stephen Blanchard, seemed slightly embarrassed during the curtain call for the production that had just transpired. Take it from me and spend your money on other amazing off broadway shows this season. |

Monsterously Dull Review by: TgdTC, Oct 29, 2007 |
| Thoroughly dissapointed in this production. Expected so much from this first rate cast, and quite honestly just ended up feeling badly for them. From their reaction at the curtain call it almost looks as if they know they are in a poor production. Many musical moments that made me cringe. Slow and plodding, dull and boring. Very one dimensional characters, same from beginning to end...Where are the light moments in this ... read more story? Contrast? Everything very heavy handed even the happy moments like their marriage. Steve Blanchard gives an Elephant Man like performance, working far too hard. The only thing that kept me in the theatre was my love of the story and the beautiful sound that comes from Christiane Noll. |

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! Review by: Michele, Oct 29, 2007 |
| I saw this show on Saturday, October 27th and thought it was phenomenal. The singing was beautiful and the acting fantastic. Although the scenery was simple, it was brilliantly effective. This is a show for people with intelligence and discriminating taste. |

Pleasantly Surprised Review by: H. Hoover, Oct 27, 2007 |
When my wife told me she bought tickets to Frankenstein the Musical I almost choked. The last thing I needed was to see another Dracula genre type play. Wow, was I wrong.
This is a first-rate musical with fantastic acting and singing, and a musical score that has got to be one of the best I have ever heard.
I saw it in previews on Oct. 24th, and it was flawless. Hunter Foster was supurb as Victor Frankenstein, ... read more Steven Blanchard was very convincing as the Creature, and Christine Noll was charming as Victor's wife.
This musical can't be beat on or off Braodway. A must see! |

Only Frankenstein worth seeing. I'll see it again. Review by: raulmark, Oct 24, 2007 |
| I just saw this show tonight and I have to say I loved it. The performances were excellent and the music haunting and beautiful. I will definitely get the cast CD as soon as it is available. hat this show lacked in budget, it made up for it in creativity and by the performances of the actors. I hope this show reaches an audience and makes it to a Broadway stage! I think a Broadway transfer will add more production tweaks that it deserves. ... read more This show can be a classic if the "other" frankenstein musical does not overshadow it......Go see THIS frankentstein and rent Young frankenstein! This is a real theatrical experience. |

Save Your Money on This for Young Frankenstein Review by: Carol, Oct 22, 2007 |
| Even Hunter Foster and a talented cast cannot save this show. Half the audience left at intermission, and my husband and I stayed only because he is a diehard Frankenstein fan. The stage has two sets of steps and a rear projection screen for its scenery. The story is true to Mary Shelley's original, but it was turned into a most unmemorable opera. The evening was a colossal bore. |

Favorite show makes lasting impression Review by: Terry, Oct 20, 2007 |
| Saw this show with friends during our annual trek to NYC. We saw five shows in three days, and this one made the most lasting impression. The acting was first rate. Hunter Foster, Steve Blanchard and Christine Noll were electifying (no pun intended). The rest of the cast was extraordinary as well. (A special shout out to a great Jim Stanek, who is a Western PA native.) The set was so clever. What at first appeared to be sparse held so ... read more many surprises. The music and lyrics were beautiful and powerful. The adaptation of Mary Shelley's book was faithful and spot on. This show needs to make a move to Broadway! It should become a classic! |
