| I had not heard or read anything about this play, and the preview performance was a delightful surprise. This is a new and original musical based on a fusion of rock/ country& western/ r&b sounds. David Cale shows enormous virtuosity as writer /lyricist as well as his able acting and singing in the role of Floyd. The second actor is Mary Faber, who sings and acts wonderfully (and looks terrific) as Clea. The story follows the decline ... read more of Floyd's performing career, his discovery as a homeless vagrant by the young Clea, her efforts to rescue Floyd from alcohol and despair, and the rise of Clea's musical career. Stardom being what it is, Clea's rise to fame unleashes her own demons, and their arcs come together again. I think the music is just great, both as a way to expand on the characters and plot and also very imaginative and tuneful. |
