Finian's Rainbow: Fool's Gold After the glowing reviews from the critics, I went to see Finian's Rainbow and was mildly disappointed. Although the score is filled with many standards, I found the whole show to be sub-standard. The cast was a capable lot, but never rose to the heights they could have achieved. The production values, especially the set design, were routine summer stock variety; dancing (except for an exquisite solo by one of ... read more the minor characters) was pedestrian at best. The main characters (Baldwin and Jackson) lacked chemistry, but were in good voice. Even Fitzgerald who played Og the Leprechaun seemed charmless. The direction was off. Songs rarely flowed seamlessly into its dated plot . Also, the orchestration had a very tinny sound to it. Were it not for the grand score and some of the cast members, this rainbow should never have seen the light of day. GRADE: B- |

Finian's Rainbow - Not worth your gold! Review by: high school director, Nov 15, 2009 |
The show has amazing sounds from the harmonies of the ensemble and leading players. The dancing is fun yet I feel Cheyenne Jackson seems a bit awkward in his movement. The story is too old and is rather boring. My family was waiting for the final curtain. The acting didn't pull you in as it should. The most fun character to watch is the leprechun. There are better shows out there for the price. |

Amazing Broadway Show! A group of 6 of us saw Finian's Rainbow during preview week. We've seen several Broadway shows including Rock of Ages, Grease, Xanadu, and Hairspray. This was the best by far! Cheyenne Jackson and Kate Baldwin had such beautiful chemistry together. Their duet "Old Devil Moon" was magical. The whole cast was just perfect. We met the cast after the performance and had some pictures taken with them. They were all very nice ... read more and so down to earth. I hope this play lasts for a long time because I plan on seeing it again on my next trip to NYC. |

Finians rainbow shines as broadway's newest gem! much better then i expected. Review by: broadwaybabe, Nov 14, 2009 |
| Before seeing Finian's rainbow, I wasn't expecting much at all. However I was blown away. The cast is amazing, the music and dancing are phenomenal, and the story is great, and reminds you of what a Broadway show is suppose to be. I recommend any body to see this, but I recommend it for husband/wife, adults and older teens (13+). Defiently a must see! |

Good Entertainment Review by: Carol, Nov 2, 2009 |
| The plot is silly, but the acting and music more than make up for it. Go see the play for wonderful performances and music as well as issues like witch burning and integration years before these were in the news with the McCarthy hearings and the whole Civil Rights Era beginning in the middle 1950's. The play was written in 1947--just two years after the end of WWII, and it is prophetic. |

Pot of Gold arrives on Broadway Review by: Wes, Oct 30, 2009 |
| Sometimes when you have high expectations for a Broadway play, you are disappointed. Truly, this was not the case with Finian's Rainbow which delivers on every level. The musical score is heaven sent. The songs are timeless and performed with beauty and gusto by this truly wonderful cast. Christopher Fitzgerald is truly amazing as Og and mixes comic genius with musical command. Kate Baldwin gives a Tony caliber performance as Sharon. Her voice ... read more does justice to the wonderful score. Jim Norton gives a command performance in the lead role with genuine comic wit and charm. Finally, Cheyenne Jackson was brilliant as Woody. Scenes with Jackson and Baldwin are enchanting. I cannot say enough about Teri White and her magnificent performance. This is the best musical comedy I have seen on Broadway in a decade. Don't miss it. Every show should be as well done as the Rainbow. |

Rainbows for Everyone! Review by: VEG, Oct 29, 2009 |
| Finian's Rainbow is a show for people of all ages. The cast, led by the gorgeous romantic couple Kate Baldwin and Cheyenne Jackson, with Jim Norton as Finian, Alina Faye dancing beautifully as Susan the Silent, Christopher Fitzgerald as Og the Leprechaun, and Terri White stopping the show as Dottie, is a total delight! the music and dancing are wonderful and the entire production reminds us that some things are timeless, like this beautiful ... read more show from Broadway's Golden Age. Outstanding, old-fashioned musical with charming and relevant story Review by: charles, Oct 18, 2009 |
| I saw this last week and absolutely loved it. It is definitely an old-fashioned style of musical with classic humor and songs. The music is beautiful, and the actors playing the lead roles are terrifically talented. Cheyenne Jackson is perfect, and Kate Baldwin gives a performance that makes falling in love with her seem so easy. I cannot stop singing the songs to myself! Go see it with kids, friends, anyone! |

Loved Finian's Rainbow Review by: zettler6, Oct 18, 2009 |
| This show was wonderful, entertaining and fun! I saw it with my 17 year old daughter who absolutely loved it. Here is a good, old fashioned musical that is able to take it to the 21st century without losing any of its magic. The audience agreed with a standing ovation at the end. |

Worth more than a pot of Gold Review by: AN, Oct 17, 2009 |
| "Look to the Rainbow" for there's a pot of pure enjoyment at the end of this one. This revival has everything: exceptional score, perfect casting, creative choreography, and loads of laughs (courtesy of Christopher Fitzgerald, the lovable Og.) An added perk: a relevant updated witty script to accompany this timeless treasure of a score. We're planning on seeing this one again. It's a delightful feel good musical that will put a song on your ... read more lips ("Old Devil Moon") and a glow in your heart! Enchanting! Go see Finian's' Rainbow: Kate Baldwin is Terrific! Review by: Bway Baby, Oct 17, 2009 |
Finian's Rainbow is a true delight! Kate Baldwin was phenomenal and a delight as was Christopher Fitzgerald as the leprechaun. Cheyenne impressed me less so – while I felt others brought a lot to their roles, his seemed more cliché, like it could be done by a number of male actors. The orchestra was great and the dancing was absolutely stand-out. A great show overall. |

Great but not for everyone. I would see it again Review by: purlygurl, Oct 17, 2009 |
| Saw it last night with another couple. I thought it was great, tons of nostalgia the kind of show Broadway musicals were always thought to be, but this show is not for everyone. If you have no connection to the songs or the some what slowness of the story then the show can seem way too slow and old fashioned especially for guys or the younger people. But it really was a great show, beautiful singing, and a heartwarming story it is not going to ... read more have a rock feeling like Rent or Next to Normal. It is a true timeless broadway musical |

Finigan's Rainbore.......... Review by: BKLYNDADDY, Oct 14, 2009 |
| I saw this revival on Monday night with my wife and daughter and we were bored to tears. Some shows should not be revived. Yes the songs are lovely but EVERYTHING else is awful. Cheyenne Jackson tries hard to breath some life into his role but everyone else falls flat. The scenery and costumes are an embarassment for BROADWAY especially at Broadway prices. |

Loved every minute of it Review by: cls, Oct 13, 2009 |
| I went to see Finian's Rainbow the first night of preview performances. It was amazing! I have a hard time finding shows that rank with South Pacific but this one delivers. The set is basic which allows you to focus on the acting, singing, and music. I hope they release an album with this cast. See this before Bye, Bye Birdie, Chicago, Hair,...LOVED IT |
