This show is not for the faint of heart. It is the astonishingly shocking tale of a seriously dysfunctional family, very much in denial, particularly that of the matriarch of the family, played by Ali MacGraw.
Without giving the punchline away, suffice to say that it is about a "celebration" of a very closely knit family's father's birthday -- with siblings, in-laws, grandchild and grandfather all coming together from out of town ... read more to celebrate the occasion.
When one sibling breaks the supportive chain, all kinds of family characters show their true faces -- and it is shocking and ugly.

Despite a talented cast, this story of a disfunctional family just didn't connect with me, my wife or from the comments leaving the theatre, few of the rest of the audience. The theme was potentially thought provoking, but the somehow the characters and the dialog couldn't make it
believeable. Save your money, see Doubt itstead. |

We were disappointed with this production of FESTEN.
Never really knew if we were supposed to laugh or cry ...
and did not feel connected to the actors. |
