Just got home from seeing Evita! What a HORRIBLE show! I was bored through the entire thing! For what they are charging for these tickets....WOW...they have some nerve.
First of all, Ricky Martin, yes we know he's pulling the audience, which is expected, but not worth it. His voice is weak. However, he was a helluva lot better than the leading actress, Elena Rogers, was absolutely the worse leading actress I have ever seen on Broadway. ... read more She's weak and so does not represent Argentine Women. Biggest problem with her is that you CAN'T UNDERSTAND HER!!!! Most of she says and sings you are just looking at the person next to you saying, "Huh?" It was an absolute disaster of a show. I was completely disappointed. I absolutely love the music in this show and the power just wasn't there for the material. Usually, even a bad show with bad acting, I can find something that was good...this show, I can't find a thing except the seats are very comfortable!
If you have tickets, ask for a refund! I'm appalled that this is even on Broadway! I have seen Off Off Broadway shows for $5 that were better. Hell, my 8 year old niece's shows are better! Elena was a complete amateur and made the show horrible! I COMPLETELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SHOW TO ANYONE! |

First disappointment..Went to the show two weeks ago and it was cancelled due to a faulty Deluge curtain going off...Repurchased tickets the next day, almost same seats, for double the price...Gouging at it's best!!!!! No compensation from the Theatre at this time...SHAMEFUL!!!!!!
Second Dispointment....Saw the show yesterday,3/28/12, and it was not worth the doubled price at $249.00...The female lead who played Evita was not what was to ... read more be expected to carry this show...Weak, screeching voice and very hard to understand...Stature of this lead was so "tiny" that it was hard to believe that she had to carry the"powerhouse" persona of Eva Perrone....She was very stiff and had no affect..
Ricky Martin was handsome, moved and sang well...Wished his part was bigger!!!
Overall, sets were great, chorus outstanding, but the play left me with very little emotional connection. I feel it was GOOD not GREAT and I guess I was expecting much, much more, for the OUTRAGEOUS pricing for a matinee. |
