Esoterica = pure joy! Review by: z., Nov 6, 2006 |
| More people need to see this show, Eric Walton has produced a piece of theater unlike anything else in NY, he reveals the art in the magic and the magic in the art. |

Engaging and enjoyable evening Review by: MDC, Oct 29, 2006 |
| Esoterica will certainly bring to mind some of the same routines of Ricky Jay but his demeanor is quite different; very entertaining and smart, sometimes sarcastic but engaging and thought provoking. I particularly liked his mentalist routine of the Knight's tour which certainly may have been done elsewhere but he does this in tandem with two other activities which are impressive. I love the fact that he calls on audience members, ... read more almost the entire audience in fact, and makes most people look quite good as part of his performance. He greets everyone at the door to the theatre as you leave which was a very personal touch. It is light entertainment and an enjoyable evening. |

I had fun Review by: Karen, Oct 4, 2006 |
| What a delightful evening of theater this was. I went with a group and didn't really know what to expect, but I enjoyed it very much. He does talk quite a bit, but it's interesting the things he's talking about. |

| Oh, dear! Such hostility from a few of you. Better performers on the subway? Yikes! I actually saw the show and frankly I thought it was lovely. It's very smart and will obviously be lost on a lot of people, but if you think the poem he did about the gambler and Houdini was mediocre, then please tell me what you think constitutes impressive. |

Old Tricks with Too Much Chatter Review by: kernel, Sep 16, 2006 |
| While his skills are excellent, many of the tricks have been seen so often that I found little new. Some tricks lasted too long and I found myself actually dozing off. Much too much talking and not enough magic to make this an evening I could recommend. When the "Mentalizer" comes back to New York, go see a really personable showman perform some amazing feats. |

ron@beeracles.com Review by: Loves Real Theater, Sep 9, 2006 |
If you are interested in spending an evening with a self-absorbed pseudo-intellectual who does mediocre card tricks while pontificating about nothing, this is the show to see.
I can only assume that ALL of the reviews on this site were posted by Walton and his manager, no one in the audience the night we saw him wanted anything more than to have their time an money returned to them.
You can keep this guy and his "show." I've ... read more seen better performers on the NYC subway. |

Incredible! Review by: Mitch, Aug 24, 2006 |
| We went to see ESOTERICA this past Monday night and absolutely loved it! We laughed, we were moved and really, really impressed. My favorite was a card trick he did with a beautiful poem and my wife's was his routine about destiny. We're still trying to figure it all out. We'll definitely be going back soon. |

Finally, a smart, hot magician! Review by: Amanda, Aug 19, 2006 |
I also saw ESOTERICA and ON THE STEM and would say that the only thing they have in common is that they're both great shows. But to say that Eric Walton aspires to be like Ricky Jay is like saying Matt Damon is trying to be Gene Hackman! With respect to Mr. Jay, Mr. Walton is younger, slimmer, has much better diction and is HOTT!!! See the show. You'll love it. Promise. |

Fantastic entertainment! See this show!! Review by: Mr. Freidman, Aug 18, 2006 |
| I saw ESOTERICA last week and loved it!!! Mr. Walton is as magnetic a performer as I have seen. How he did the things he did, I have no idea, but what really stuck with me (and my wife) was his personality and wittiness. We also saw ON THE STEM, and frankly, it was nothing like ESOTERICA. Mr. Walton has a completely original take on the work and his style is totally his own. We can't wait to see the full production. |

Ricky Jay Wanna-Be Review by: Dr. Isola, Aug 12, 2006 |
We were very disappointed. We paid full price to sit through a Ricky Jay wanna-be. Tried to do Jay-style material but could not handle the language, the sleight of hand or the stagecraft.
Saw him years ago in a very funny two-man show. He seems to have lost himself in trying to be Ricky Jay.
He needs to find himself, audiences do not want to go to the theater to see a second-class (or no-class) imitation ... read more of someone truly great.
We hope Mr. Walton abandons this unfortunate torturing of his audiences with imitative mediocrity.
