Great show, bad seating arrangement Review by: dms12, Nov 28, 2012 |
| The show was great. My only complaint is the setup of the venue. Seats are lined up instead of offset. I had a rather tall man in front of me, which caused me to only be able to see up to half of the stage at once. My neck hurt by the end of the show from leaning back and forth to see what was going on. If you have small children, I'd suggest getting a close seat, or ask for an extra seat cushion for them to sit on, or they won't see anything. |

Just saw the third preview... Review by: JT , Nov 4, 2010 |
| ...and it was enjoyable but corny. It didn't have the polish that the movie has, and I think the reason is that this production is geared more towards children than anyone else, whereas the movie was geared more towards adults. However the cast was excellent and couldn't be better in their roles. Sebastian Arcelus as Buddy made the character his own. Beth Leavel is a class act, as is Mark Jacoby. And George Wendt was a lot better ... read more as Santa Claus than I thought he would be. He's perfectly cast. Amy Spanger is good as Jovie but when she sings her nasal voice is like nails on a chalkboard. I have to say that Matthew Gumley as Michael the younger son was also perfect. He and Beth Leavel have a lot of scenes together and they were some of the best in the show, especially the duet they do. The songs were a lot better than I expected them to be, very catchy and well written. Most of the jokes are recycled from the movie and the new ones are a little lame and slightly off color. Like the store manager saying "Buddy gives good Elf", and another joke about bulimia which was in poor taste. The choreography was haphazard and all over the place, just too many hands waving and people spinning and it wasn't as polished as it should be. But that might be because this was only the third preview. I also thought the production would be a little nicer, it was a little cheap looking but it worked. All in all it was enjoyable mostly because of the cast and the music. But I wouldn't pay full price. Go if you get a discount... |

Great holiday show! Review by: theatergeek, Nov 3, 2010 |
Just saw the first preview, and this show is in great shape! Should be a real holiday crowd pleaser and a nice alternative/addtion to the Christmas Show at Radio City. The show captures the wackiness of the film and adds great production numbers and songs. The cast is terrific. The sets and effects are impressive. It's a bit hokey, but isn't that what one expects from a holiday show? The audience loved it. It's ... read more only playing for 9 weeks so get your tickets now. |
