| The entire show was upbeat, energetic, & fun. I do agree that the presence of the caucasian was not well defined, & had no real purpose. The lead was incredibly animated, had the whole audience in the palm of his hand, & was a joy to watch. This production is especially great for kids. |

Good for the whole family Review by: lovingctcpl, Aug 20, 2006 |
| I can't say we were awestruck by Drumstruck -- but, we certainly enjoyed our afternoon. Indeed, they keep their promise, there is a beautiful African drum on every seat. And, you will leave a better drummer than you came in, for cetain. The energetic cast of 11 did a wonderful job keeping the audience drumming, singing and laughing, but did not do as good a job carrying the theme of community and unity through out the 90 minute show. The ... read more most negative and distracting part of the experience is the one non-African American cast member playing non-African drums -- who is introduced in a most peculiar way to the show. This Broadway experience quickly turns Las Vegas cabaret for 10 minutes or so -- but, then meanders back to an above average off-Broadway experience. We paid $39.99 with a Broadway.com discount. And, we got our money's worth -- not a bargain, but worth the price. Note -- The seats were only about 1/3 full at a Saturday matinee -- so catch it before it closes! |

Fun show, would go back with my teenagers Review by: den, Jun 20, 2006 |
| My husband and I went not knowing anything about the play. We loved it! We laughed the entire time. I think our teenagers would like it as well. One of the leads was an understudy and he did a great job, we would not have known he was not the usual lead actor. |

| It was an exciting show from beginning to end. Each person in the audience had a drum in their seat and had the chance to participate. The music and dance was great. I would recommend this show for families and people of all ages. |

According to the cast, in the villages of South Africa, “when one person sings, everybody sings. When one person drums, everybody drums.” That explains the fact that when you enter the theater for “Drumstruck,” there is a two-foot tall African drum on every seat. Over the course of the next 90 minutes, you are treated to a performance by 10-12 energetic drummers and singers and given the opportunity to play along with them. Although I ... read more was looking forward to more of a lesson on the basics of African rhythms, the cast handled the interactive segments quite well. Very few words were needed for the cast to explain when we were supposed to hit our drums. His drum lessons were practically a dance, as he mimed the moves we were to follow. Different halves of the audience would occasionally play different parts, and we always played along with the cast, which kept the beat even and driving forward. If that sounds like fun to you, it probably will be. If it doesn’t, don’t take the chance that “Drumstruck” will be able to win you over. |
