Good show but too depressing for my taste Review by: NYCgal, Sep 3, 2011 |
| The show was good if you don't mind a hit of reality of life and death. I knew the story line, but did not realize how depressing it will be. If I could go back in time and not see, I would, and not because of bad acting, voices or music, but rather because of the aftertaste it left me with. So, if you don't mind being told a thousand times about death and listen to depressing songs, such as a mother singing about the loss of her son, then it ... read more is a very good show. If you on another hand like to go to shows to have uplifting mood after, then this is not a show for you. |

See Death before the Labor Day Holiday............Loved It! Review by: Diract 66, Aug 27, 2011 |
| This was a wonderful musical, with great melodic songs that you should see now. Irene has forced cancellation of three performances so there is not much time. They should move this musical to a small house on Broadway, like the Helen Hayes, because it is so good. Everyone in this play had excellent voices and character, and each had a song to sing. Of course, the story is very simple. Death decides to come to earth , take on a human character to ... read more experience feelings and find the answer of why people want to cling to life so much when he arrives. This causes death to take a holiday for two days in the entire world. An open setting to give the feeling of a garden and moving set pieces used to reflect different areas of the villa are very effective. Love the two circular staircases on either side of the stage. As I said, the whole cast works as an ensemble. Kevin Earley should be a future Broadway star an get many roles after this excellent acting and vocal performance. Jill Paice also has a beautiful voice. One very enjoyable number was between the three ladies, Jill Paice, Mara Davi, and young Alexandra Socha. Sung in character beautifully by all. It is true, Love is stronger than Death. |

See It! Review by: Carol, Aug 19, 2011 |
| I remember reading the play when I was in high school a thousand years ago. What I did not recall was the musicality of this production. Jill Paice gives a stand-out performance as the lovely Grazia Lamberti. Kevin Earley as her love interest, Death/Prince Nikolai Sirki, was appealing and effective. The costumes were sumptuous, and in all, the production was an excellent evening's entertainment. |

Third time a charm... Review by: jef, Aug 15, 2011 |
| I have seen the show now 3 times and enjoyed it every time "More and More." The cast change had no effect on the show, it did not skip a beat. I am thrilled there is a cast album out so I can enjoy the music which is beautiful. While I am sad to see it close, I am happy it was here. |

Everything about this show was great and "death" was superb! Review by: , Aug 14, 2011 |
What a beautiful production! At first I was very disappointed to learn that Julian Ovenden, the actor that I heard so much about, was no longer in the production. His role is being taken over by Kevin Earley. However, my disappointment turned to joy as soon as I heard Kevin ("Death") sing. He was wonderful as was his co-star Jill Paige. The entire cast was exciting, talented and the chemistry between everyone just made me smile through the ... read more entire show. It was romantic, funny and had an interesting plot. (I was not familiar with the original movie from the 30's so I didn't know what to expect). This is my second Roundabout Theater production that I've seen and both have been wonderful. Therefore, I am considering getting a subscription for the next season. I feel they know how to produce quality productions. |

Death was never so handsome Review by: S. Francois, Aug 1, 2011 |
Saw this musical over the weekend with my husband. What a pleasant surprise. Julian Ovenden has a gorgeous voice and quite a body too. If you see this play you’ll know what I mean. The entire cast is made up of extremely talented singers, many who have been on Broadway. Wonderful to see such a cast assembled on one stage. The costumes are fantastic. This production really is worth seeing.

Glorious Singing Review by: dk, Jul 20, 2011 |
| Outstanding cast. I was interested to hear Julian Ovenden after I read a long profile about him in the Sunday NYT arts section. He was everything I hoped for and more. The rest of the cast was just as good. Jualian Ovenden is a thrilling performer. |

A Small Gem Review by: Ed H, Jul 8, 2011 |
| Really enjoyed seeing this small gem of a musical. The entire cast is outstanding, especially Julian Ovenden and Jill Paice. Both of them sing their songs so beautifully. I thoroughly loved the music, felt it was one of Maury Yeston's best. The costumes and set design were just gorgeous, and helped transport this viewer to another time and place. Kudos to all involved for making this beautiful, romantic love story come alive. |

Review by: jef, Jul 8, 2011 |
I find this play enchanting. There is nothing about it I would change, except that it is such a short run and there is not cast album. I luv the cast, sets, dancing and music, More and More gets stuck in my head. Have seen it twice and luv the theater it is playing in, very comfortable with LEG ROOM.

| Go See This Show! The musical will remind you of an old-fashioned 1940's romance classic with beautiful music. The set and costumes were great. If you like classic movies and a romance storyline without gimmicks, this show is for you. |

Make this play one of your choices Review by: FraChr, Jul 7, 2011 |
| Great show, the songs and story line flow together. Acting is everything you would expect. The music, lyrics and voices were fantastic. The only thing needed is a final song,at the end of the show. |

Excellent Singing Voices Wasted on a Disappointing Show Review by: aseatontheaisle, Jul 3, 2011 |
The entire cast performed splendidly and their singing voices were spectacular across the board. But, unfortunately, the play itself is nothing to write home about: the book is choppy and dull while the music and lyrics are derivative, pedestrian and something of a failed attempt at cobbling together operatic renditions with tunes more typical of Broadway musicals. In sum, it was pretty much a waste of some exceptional acting and vocal talent on ... read more a theatrical vehicle not really worthy of their efforts. But that doesn’t mean that we didn’t end up having a good time anyway. We did. The costumes were lush and lovely to behold and at least a couple of the musical numbers were fun (Mara Davi’s performance in “Shimmy Like They Do in Paree” and the humorous reprise of “Life’s a Joy” by Jay Jaski, Patricia Noonan, Joy Hermalyn and Don Stephenson were both delightful). Additionally, Alexandra Socha’s insouciant performance as Daisy and Don Stephenson’s humorous depiction of Fidele brought smiles to our faces.

Musical theater lovers--do not miss Review by: sfvmark, Jun 30, 2011 |
| I saw a Saturday matinee preview. I was interested in the production because it was composed by Maury Yeston. Furthermore it had quite a stellar cast. I was not disappointed. Everything was first rate. I certainly hope that they make a recording of the score. Please support this production. |

A Treat for the eye and ear Review by: jef, Jun 20, 2011 |
The other reviews have said it all. I left the theater humming the music. It is a delight, everthing is first class and the cast, the cast is wonderful. I guess I am a sucker for a love story,it is a love story and in the end I had a tear in my eye. Excellent first class production. |
