A good time Review by: angelajoy, Jan 15, 2008 |
| My husband and I both really enjoyed this show. I thought a lot of the choreography was great and it was cute and funny. We both thought David Hyde Pierce did a great job. Overall well done and enjoyable. Not a really deep peace, but fun theater. |

Ho-hum Review by: , Jan 12, 2008 |
| Went to the Friday, January 11th performance. All the principals were there except Debra Monk (missing a Friday evening performance....hope it was something big that kept her away). Show was OK but not something I would see again. |

Barely a Passing Grade Review by: RichFromMd, Jan 4, 2008 |
| I found the performance boring and a bit tired. Some individual performances were fairly good, but on the whole I'd give this show a C minus. The music was forgetable and the production numbers seemed crowed on the stage. David Hyde Pierce gave a fairly good performance, but to me the only memorable part was the singing of Jaison Danieley. Fortunately, I had discount tickets. Had I paid full price, I would have felt robbed. |

umm... Review by: Jeff, Jan 4, 2008 |
| First off, im 16. My brother and sister went to see this show together and came back saying it was great,m so my family was able tog et really cheap tickets for this and decided to go together. Everyone loved it except for me. I just couldn't get into it. The acting was great and the music was amazing (I listen to it all the time), but for some reason I just couldnt get into the show. Still, only fair i give it a good review since everyone in my ... read more family loved and i love the music. |

Excruciatingly BORING. Not worth $20 Review by: , Dec 30, 2007 |
BORING. I have seen over 40 shows in my life and this has got to be one of the few where I just wanted it to end. Right from the start with the "Robin Hood musical" opening I was bored and never got into it. I didn't even care much about the who done it because I just felt the show was such a downer. I would not recommend this show to anyone. Almost all other shows on Broadway are better than this.

Very talented actors. Review by: Jill, Dec 10, 2007 |
| Loved it! Very entertaining. I'm a regular theatre goer and would hightly recommend this play. Very fast paced so I wouldn't recommend it for young children. Overall, I put this play on my top ten plays to see. |

Don't waste your money!!! Review by: Harvey D, Dec 9, 2007 |
| Best Musical???? I don't have one note from this debacle in my head when I left the theater. It is a very tired plot that nearly put me to sleep. I judge a good show by whether I want it to end or not. This one should have never started. To make matters worse, they "pass the plate" at the end asking for donations for something to do with AIDS. That put a bitter asterik on an already disappointing time. |

Curtains all fall down Review by: belle, Dec 7, 2007 |
| Anticipating a fun night at the theater I was oh so dispointed with the show Curtains. From the very moment the curtain rose I was board. The tunes were uninspiring, the dancing stilted and flat, the jokes contrived and old. The show within a show within a show was a jumble. It got to a point where I didn't give a twit about the "mystery" the characters or for that matter the SHOW. I walked out during the intermission! |

See It;; It's Fun Review by: Carol, Oct 22, 2007 |
| This is a very cute show. Politics being what they are, David Hyde Pierce won the Tony, but the stand-out performer in the show is definitely Deborah Monk. She's the 21st century Ethel Merman, and she's worth the price of admission alone! |

THE HEALING POWER OF MUSICAL THEATER Review by: Beth A. Mandelbaum, Oct 21, 2007 |
I entered the Hirschfeld Theater with a painful sinus infection and left the theater several hours later feeling exuberant and feeling no pain. While I didn’t read the reviews in detail, it was clear that they was a very mixed bag. But I genuinely enjoyed, dare I say, loved, nearly every minute of Curtains.
To me, Curtains was extremely clever, also quite touching, and nearly always, great fun. I found it to be a musical in the grand ... read more old fashioned Broadway tradition, with nods to The Producers, perhaps some of the “Golden Ago” musicals of the 1950’s and 60’s (note that Curtain is set in 1959), and certainly has a very strong kinship with another of my favorites, The Drowsy Chaperone, both happily brought to us from the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles.
Curtains moves at a very quick pace and has an absolutely wonderful cast, headed by David Hyde Pierce and Debra Monk. I found myself ever enchanted by the clever plot twists and turns, the music, which includes some lovely songs and wonderful production numbers. Curtains is, for me “a great big Broadway show!”
As I imagine that everyone reading this knows that Curtains tells the story of a series of murders taking place at the Colonial Theater in Boston, during the out of town try out of a show called “Robbin’ Hood of the Old West.” The fun begins when a detective from the Boston Police, Lieutenant Frank Cioffi arrives at the Colonial with the assignment of solving the first of the murders. Coming in with a serious, even “no nonsense” demeanor as a detective, Cioffi almost immediately “succumbs” to being in the presence of a Broadway show in the making and of theater people, especially an ingénue named Niki Harris. At times, his love of musical theater (and Niki) actually gets in the way of his duties as a representative of the Boston Police, which adds to the delight. At the end of the show, audience members are very amusingly “threatened!!” by the entire cast during the show’s curtain call, guns in hand, that, if anyone should reveal the details of the murders and how they are solved, it will be “curtains for you.” Therefore no details on this subject will be revealed!!!
As for the score by John Kander and the late Fred Ebb (with additional lyrics by Rupert Holmes), I adored “What Kind of Man,” a highly witty, satirical disparaging look at theater critics, with their power to “destroy dreams” and make or break a show. I found “The Woman’s Dead” to be a hilarious, deadpan (no pun intended), and caustic anti-tribute to the first of Curtains’ murder victims, its dreadful first leading lady, who is clearly not up to the part. I found the lyrics to be extremely clever here as in the case with “What Kind of Man,” Another very clever number is the second act opener, “He Did It,” as cast members speculate on who committed the murders,
In fact, Curtains has an abundance of wonderful lyrics and many fine and varied musical numbers. I do feel that most of the songs work best in the context of the show itself rather than out on their own. But they do work very well. Even the songs that are part of the show within a show, “Robbin’ Hood,” which are not rocket science songs, and might be considered to be extremely silly, struck my funny bone and I found myself laughing out loud.
“Show People” was a fantastic vehicle for the amazing Debra Monk, who plays the show’s producer and mainstay Carmen Bernstein, whose work I have long admired and who I can envision as a dazzling Mama Rose in a future revival of Gypsy. She has great voice and commands the stage with energy and star power. She also does a wonderful job in the song “It’s A Business.”
One of the most touching songs was “Coffee Shop Nights,” where Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, wonderfully played with full star status by David Hyde Pierce, shares with an ingénue Niki Harris (the lovely Jill Paice) for whom he has developed feelings, (despite the fact that she and all of the ot |

Will see it again and again Review by: Jeri, Oct 19, 2007 |
| "Curtains" is, without a doubt, the best show on Broadway. I laughed until my sides hurt. The Kander & Ebb score is phenomenal, and David Hyde Pierce is outstanding. This show has everything. I'll be seeing it on 11/18 for the 6th, but not the last, time. I cannot get enough of this wonderful and fun filled show. It is definitly a "Must see". |

Fabulous show in every way and we're going back again! Review by: Gail, Oct 8, 2007 |
| My daughter (11) and I saw this show knowing nothing about it except that David Hyde Pierce was in it. We absolutely loved it, bought the CD, have learned all the words to all the songs and are going back to see it again. It was a great, fun, musical and is what I feel Broadway musicals are all about!!! |
