| To watch a musical and not know any of the songs is a challenge for me but I enjoyed it - very engaging and amusing - yes it is similar to Grease but so what? It's fun and entertaining and the jailhouse dance is gobsmacking! |

A hodge podge Review by: addisondewitt, Apr 9, 2008 |
| I really wanted to like this show, but, unfortunately, I didn't. The cast was talented and energetic, (I especially liked Alli Mauzey as Lenora and one really spectacular dancer in the ensemble who I believe is Spencer Liff), some of the music was catchy and a few lyrics clever, but what in hell was the whole thing about? Obviously there are echoes of GREASE and, amazingly, in Mrs. Vernon-Williams confession, a great deal of ALL MY SONS, but ... read more nothing fits together and the end result is a hodgepodge of ideas signifying nothing. (I must add that I am writing this as the show is in previews so maybe they can fix things up.) What I missed most of all was the John Waters humor, none of which was on display here. Indeed, I think I chuckled once in almost 2 1/2 hours. (I have to say that there were a number of kids in the audience and they lapped it all up.) I truly hope they can pull this together before opening; I'm just not sure that they can. Good luck guys. |

It's really bad Review by: BnJ, Apr 5, 2008 |
| It's just a very bad show. The leads can't sing very well. However, some of the supporting cast is quite good. Two or three of the songs are cute but none are very good. The second act (which is much worst than the first) is a poor knock off of Hairspray. The dialog is dreadful, I have heard better in high school shows. The dance is not bad but uninspired. |

High energy song and dance hoot with great actors! Review by: Stage Guy Phoenix, Apr 2, 2008 |
| I saw Cry-Baby in La Jolla and it was a fantastic high-energy hoot from start to finish! James Snyder and Elizabeth Stanley were terrific in the leads, very fun and sexy, while the dancing was non-stop fantastic, especially what the jailbirds do with license plates on their feet. Harriet Harris was wonderful and I loved her big equivocating eleven o'clock number, "I did something wrong...Once!" Alli Mauzey is a true star as crazy Lenora,... read more, and her big number "Screw Loose" brings down the house, Patsy Cline-style. I can't wait to see it on Broadway, and hope people give it a chance! plus, listen to the Orchestra during the Overture--Brilliant! |

My expections were not to high for this show. Well am I surprised at how much I loved it, very clever lyrics, dynamic young cast, great dancing and Harriet Harris. Great fun, run. |

FUN but nothing new. Review by: Nitro, Mar 31, 2008 |
| Caught this show over the weekend. Nothing special, just good fun. Not appropriate for children. There were two young girls next to us, they didn't understand most of the inuendo. Nothing new here. Cast is young and pretty, music lively, but nothing really special. Glad I didn't pay full price for this one. |

CRY BABY IS WORTH A VISIT! Review by: ralphy v, Mar 29, 2008 |
| Cry Baby is an entertaining evening and a better than average show. The sets, costumes & lighting are great. The choreography is the highlight of the show with very talented acrobatic dancers who must work out 8 hours a day. The leads are very good and Harriet Harris demonstrates again that she is a real pro. It's one of those shows which you don't know how the reviews will be but hope they help to keep it alive. Overall, the show is not as ... read more fun as Hairspray. It's a bit rauchier but I think the director held back and it would have been funnier if he really went for the jugular. |

OK Review by: Terry, Mar 26, 2008 |
I did not think it was that bad, either, not great, not as fun as Hairspray, but the writing is clever if you listen to the words. I do agree, nothing that we have not seen before. |

Save your money and go out to a fancy restaurant for dinner instead of "Cry-Baby" Review by: Stoooie, Mar 26, 2008 |
A VERY POOR EXPERIENCE Skip this poor show, nothing about it is exciting original or worth a $5.00 ticket, let alone over $100 The music is tired, and the lyrics, geeeeez "kiss with me your tongue" this is just one example. Let this show close immediately it gives broadway a bad reputation awful awful awful and awful |

Review by: , Mar 25, 2008 |
| Cry Baby is a real enjoyment. The music and dance are enchanting, the design is changing and surprising with each schene. The characters are well portrayed. The story was touching. It ends up optimistically. We really enjoyed every moment. There are some subtle nude scenes, may not be appropriate for kids. I recommend the show for enjoyment and good mood. |

NOT that bad Review by: bklyndaddy, Mar 25, 2008 |
| just back from a preview of Cry Baby and it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be after reading the previous two reviews. The cast works very hard and if you like Grease, Hairspray or Legally Blond you'll have fun. Get a discounted ticket and enjoy. |

YUCK!!! Review by: , Mar 24, 2008 |
| oh my God! It was awful. It was just plain horrible. We spent the weekend in NYC and this was the first of three we saw this past weekend. We almost walked out. First time that every happened in our over 7 years of comming to shows once a month at least. It was truly horrible. It is like a remake of so many other shows but nothing to get you excited about it. It will never make it. I'll bet it closes soon. TOo bad. |

I would pass on this one. Review by: TheaterFan, Mar 23, 2008 |
Very disappointed with this show. Songs weren't that great - performances were okay - story was pretty boring. It's a knockoff of Grease/Hairspray, but not nearly as good as either. Harriett Harris was pretty good - given what she had to work with. |
