Amazing! Must see! Review by: kate, May 12, 2013 |
| Cinderella was so wonderful that I had to see it twice. The cast was perfect; it was as if the roles were written for these specific actors. Laura Osnes was absolutely perfect as Cinderella, Victoria was beautiful, Santino was amazing, Ann was hilarious, Marla was lovely, etc. The acting and the singing (especially the singing!) was enchanting. It was updated and extremely clever. Must see!! Don't miss it! |

Broadway Magic Review by: Steven, Mar 19, 2013 |
This show is Broadway as it used to be--muscials that are magical, hummable and gorgeous to look at. When was the last time a musical had a full 21-piece orchestra? The songs are pure Rodgers and Hammerstein-tuneful and heartfelt, not the pop junk that passes for music on Broadway these days. The costumes are beautiful, and the leads are wonderful: Laura Osnes' voice is pure and sweet, and Santino Fontana is adorable and charming. It ... read more amazes me that people who didn't like the updated story gave this a "Don't Go", as if there was nothing else to love in this show. How refreshing to see a musical that doesn't depend on projections, as recent shows have done, but instead gives us an old-fashioned night of magic. Wonderful for everyone, with or without children. |

Broadway at its stunning best Review by: NYCFANATIC, Mar 15, 2013 |
| The designers for this production should be commended for coming together to create such a visually stunning experience for audiences. Add to that a uniformly stellar cast, an intuitive director and a new smart and funny book by Douglas Carter Beane. Mr. Beane has creatively used the classic Charles Perrault version of the story as inspiration for his script. The new lush orchestrations from the full pit orchestra (now a rarity on Broadway) ... read more are exciting, especially so in the gorgeous and perfectly choreographed waltz sequence. It was gratifying leaving the theatre amidst a crowd of exuberant audience members who were obviously as satisfied and happy as I was. |

Marvelous Production, But Screenplay Comes Up Short Review by: monkeybiz, Mar 15, 2013 |
Wonderful production, amazing set and costume designs, a number of nice performances including the 2 leads, an awesome rendition of the fox and raccoon, and magic transformations worthy of Houdini. But alas, a terrible screenplay. Really wanted to love it. Was hoping it was the new "Wicked." But it wasn't. Would rather not dwell on the negatives, but when the humor is lacking, the scenes just don't work. It's like Jerry ... read more Seinfeld critiquing bad sitcoms, when he explains that sometimes the writers just don't get there. And then there was that Roseanne Barr interpretation of the step sister role. Didn't Roseanne already play out that shtick? Are cheap laughs what we hope for on mighty Broadway? But the other step sister more than made up for it. Nice job. And in all fairness, the Roseanne Barr step sister got a big ovation, albeit not from me. So go and enjoy it. There's tons to love. Just temper your expectations about the dialogue, and marvel at the rest.

Review by: Mike, Mar 13, 2013 |
| I went to see Cinderella last night with my wife. After reading some of the reviews on this site, I thought it might have been a mistake to see this show. Well, I don't know what show the naysayers saw, but it wasn't the one we was. The show was absolutely WONDERFUL. The message was not rich is bad, poor is good. Instead, it was a message of learning to act like human beings to one another and treat everyone with respect. As for the show, ... read more the sets were incredible, a FULL orchestra was wonderful and the acting superb. Santino Fontana as the prince is excellent and Laura Osnes as Cinderella is perfect, and can that lady sing!!! We loved the special effects and are both still trying to figure out how the fairy godmother transformed Cinderella not once, but twice. This is definitely a not to be missed show and since it runs through the end of September, we're looking forward to seeing it again, this time with our granddaughter. |

a grandparents' delight Review by: Colonel John , Mar 12, 2013 |
My wife and I took two of our granddaughters (age 5 and 7) to their first Broadway show. Cinderella was a perfect choice. The two girls totally enjoyed themselves and we could find no negatives in the experience they received. The music, sets, lighting and costumes were extraordinary. I did not particularly like the political comments about society and income distribution. My wife thought it was good and different.... read more. I still would recommend Cinderella for a adult(without children present ) very good experience, but we thought it was fantastic for children and adults together. |

Review by: Chris, Mar 11, 2013 |
This show was lovely, just lovely. I saw the matinee on March 11, 2013. The actors who play Cinderella and the Prince are really quite good, and they have a commanding presence on the stage. The wicker step mother, and the two step sisters (who are not really so wicked in this version) are all okay in their roles. The fairy godmother plays a good part. The staging is pure Disney -- lots of moving parts to make the show move along. ... read more But, believe it or not, major kudos go to the costume designer for this show. The audience is watching on stage when Cinderella changes from rags into beautiful dresses with fully done hair and jewelry -- there is no smoke or mirrors. The change is right in front of your eyes, but I can't figure out how it was done. No matter how, it was really fascinating. The songs are all the same from the television broadcast of this show. In fact, this show compares favorably to its television counterpart. There isn't a bad seat in this very large theater. So, if you can only afford seats way up top in the rear mezzanine, don't worry, you won't miss a thing. It's an excellent theater experience for the whole family. |

Magical Review by: lbmom, Mar 3, 2013 |
| We planned this outing for five female family members. We had a wonderful time. I read most of the original fairy tales as a child, so I knew most as dark stories. We've been spoiled by "Disneyfication" I have always loved the Rogers and Hammerstein version, saw it with Lesley Ann Warren. My daughter played the wicked stepmother in high school, so I worked on make up and costumes and sat through weeks of rehearsals. I ... read more actually enjoyed the newly revised second act. It was surprising, funny and ironic. I love that we don't have to teach our daughters to depend on a prince. They can hold their own opinions, beliefs, a job. Life is different now and this production was magical. |

You are not getting what is advertised! Review by: laurie316, Feb 26, 2013 |
| I want to start by saying that I thought the cast and set were amazing. However, THIS IS NOT RODGER'S AND HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA. Instead it is a butchered version of the story which is based on political agendas, and the idea that poor is good, rich is bad. I wonder how "poor" the producers of the musical are for it cost us a small fortune to see it. I think Rodgers and Hammerstein would be flipping in their graves to see what was done to ... read more their magical story. I cannot believe it can be advertised as something it is not and I am sad that I exposed to little girls to this, their first broadway experience. |

How a broadway musical should be! Review by: Tony, Feb 22, 2013 |
| There's something about this show that works. Is it the production? The music? The actors? I think it's all of the above. All of the actors are top tier and make the new book work like a charm. The songs are memorable and will leave you humming for weeks. The new book which is the Cinderella story with a new twist is very well done and it's very funny. Props to Douglas Carter Beane. The production and how the transformations are the best part of ... read more the show and worth the ticket price alone. Sad in Long Island Review by: Sad in Long Island, Feb 7, 2013 |
| Very disappointed with the show. Was so looking forward to the R and H true version of the story as seen on TV with Leslie Ann Warren. This script was a debacle!! So sad. This is a fairy tale not a " politcally correct tale". Please bring back the old version and the theater will be packed with young and old. |

Loved it..hated it...loved it... Review by: Peter, Feb 6, 2013 |
Loved it- hated it - loved it...that is how I felt when I saw this production of Cinderella. What did I love..the acting..the singing and dancing...the sets...all well done. The Main cast, headed by Laura Osnes and Victoria Clark was perfect. Santino Fontana was superbly cast as the prince..not as handsome as you would expect but comical..and actually very charming. I hated the book. Unlike Xanadu or Sister Act, where the shows were ... read more fairly contemporary, Douglas Carter Beene's story is a classic..and changes to any classic really need to be carefully done. The show has too many political overtones and changes some of the fundamentals of the original Cinderella. Three things come to mind- 1)Cinderella doesn't lose her slipper 2)she befriends one of her step sisters and 3) there is a poor vs. rich element which just does not need to be there. However, I loved the songs, and loved the supporting cast. Ann Harada is just so funny as one of the stepsisters..whose names are changed yet again. Overall, I enjoyed it. If you are purist, then you will be disappointed. If you can get past some of the basics of the story being changed, then you will be able to appreciate this version. |
