Bravo!! Review by: Vivian, Sep 28, 2007 |
| Bravo!!!!!!un million de veses!!!This rendition of Celia's music came alive the moment you heard the first note. In addition to the fantastic Xiomara and Modesto. I could not stop looking and talking about Pedro Capo. This young man stood out through out the play, and when he did his final song there were plenty of sniffles he touched the heart. Can't wait to see this play again and see what the future holds for Mr. Capo. |

Cecilia Review by: Ceci, Sep 21, 2007 |
| I've known Celia's music my entire life, but not until I read her book and saw the play did I realize how amazing she was. She truly did earn her title of "La Reina de la Salsa". Xiomara did a fantastic job in singing her songs -- most times I had to look at her twice to realize it was not Celia -- great voice!!! The rest of the cast were phenomenal. Their acting and humor was great, but the energy was so intense you could feel their passion ... read more and love for Celia. I loved the costumes too. I was at the edge of my seat the entire time because my feet wouldn't stop moving to her music. I would definitely see this show again and have receommended it to everyone that knows Celia's music. The woman is a legend!! |

It's a must see for all latin-music lovers! Review by: Brooklyn Michy, Sep 17, 2007 |
| Great story; great music; a lot of humor and also very touching. It was refreshing to hear the story of a positive icon (without a tragic story of drugs, womanizing, etc.) The dancing could be better, but the experience was thoroughly delightful! |

The Amazing "Celia" Review by: adrianita caliente, Sep 13, 2007 |
| Celia was a remarkable show. I grew up knowing some of her music and always danced to it with passion, but I had no idea that this lovely woman was bigger than life! The actors were amazing, the show, costumes and music were breathtaking. I loved the finale (la vida es un carnaval)...that blew me away. Many thanks to the cast of Celia. They were INCREDIBLE, especially the actress who sang all of Celia's songs...Outstanding! |

Celia lives Review by: Zak, Sep 10, 2007 |
The show was incredible. The orchestra was unbelievable. Xiomara Lougart does an awesome performance. Xiomara's voice is incredible. The "woman" who portrays a younger Celia should be listed as "Young Celia". She was remarkable. The wigs and dresses were unbeleivable. The show was done in great taste and you learned so much from two beautiful people who loved each other very much. Very touchy.

TWO THUMBS UP FOR "CELIA" a fabulous show Review by: Cuban, Sep 10, 2007 |
CELIA was a fantastic show. Beautiful music. The actress that plays Celia Cruz sings as good or better, wears Celia's original wardrobe, and had identical manerisms. It's Celia Cruz reincarnated. The story is amazing and beautifully told. GO SEE IT....BEFORE IT BECOMES A SOLD-OUT SHOW |

Celia Review by: Silvia, Sep 6, 2007 |
I loved the Show! Xiomara Lougart does a great job as Celia the singer, although, her dancing can use some improvement. Modesto Lacen did a fantastic job as Pedro Knight. Another wonderful surprise was Anissa Gathers; I would have liked to see more of her dancing and singing she is definitely a rising star.

La Reina Comes To Broadway Review by: Elle173, Aug 29, 2007 |
Opening night of previews is definitely the best time to see a new show. You are given the opportunity to sit in the "director/producer" chair and offer your opinion on changes.
In the case of "La Guarachera de Cuba", there are few moments that disappoint. The cast: Xiomara Laugart Sanchez plays a very believable "Celia" although growing up my entire life watching Celia and ALL of her bandmates, I would say that Ms.... read more. Xiomara could benefit from loosening just a touch when dancing during a performance as electric as the ones offered by The Queen. Pedro Capo was a wonderful surprise, turning what may have been considered a supporting role into a performance to remember. His charm, humor, dance steps, and even a voice similar to that of Alejandro Sanz made a huge impression on the audience, even garnering a 1-minute standing ovation after his portrayal of Ismael Miranda's "Cucala" duet with Celia. "Young Celia" was played by Joselin Reyes but the only mention of her is billed as playing "The Woman". If that is the case, Joselin was spectacular. She stirred emotions in the audience with heart-felt performances during her trials and tribulations growing up in Cuba and then surviving her mother's death while in "El Exilio". Anissa Gathers has an incredible voice and instead of utilizing her remarkable talent as "Ollita", I would have cast her as Celia, not as an understudy. Her vocal performances resounded across the entire auditorium full of emotion. The Dancers: Sunilda, Rogelio, Lai-si, and Wilson. What can I say except poor casting for DANCERS. Their speaking roles were less than memorable, but acceptable for the small parts they played. Wilson played a less than animated Johnny Pacheco. The choreography and costume design for these small roles were sloppy and unflattering, and drew ALOT away from the entire show. Sunilda was great as Tia Ana, providing moments of comic relief and a FANTASTIC dancer during the "Bembe" at Celia's birth. Mr Isidro Infante and Orchestra were phenomenal, creating a rich sound and inspiring every one in the audience to transform into "Eskeletos Rumberos". Lastly, Mr. Modesto Lacen, please stand up and take yet another bow! Incredible performance, teetering back and forth between young Pedro and old. Flawless transitions between the eras, very animated and comical when necessary. Timing was excellent. Very expressive role and a success at leading through the life-long journey that is the incredible, and inextinguishable life of "La Reina De La Salsa!" |
