Bye, Bye, .......Birdie! Review by: Diract 66, Jan 15, 2010 |
| It's fun and some of the music 'might' be familiar to todays audience , but that's all. This production does not seem Broadway caliber and the show is really outdated. Both leads do not have strong voices and their songs suffer from this. Bill Irwin does an excellent job with his father role and his facial expressions are priceless. The only effective song was the one that Birdie sings to his fans at the town hall. This show lacked the extra ... read more punch that separates Broadway from other theatrical fare. The sets were simple, not creative, and the false box stage did not work, it only cramped the action. Don't look for the Shriner's dance. This highlight is a no light in this show. Only see this show on discounts and, if possible, see another more professional show or something off broadway for even less money, but more enjoyment!!!!!!!!!!! |

Fun Show Review by: krissy, Jan 6, 2010 |
| After reading the reviews of this play on this website, my sister and I were not going to see this. We ended up seeing it after all and it was great. The singing is so-so, but the story and characters are fun and light hearted. The show was very funny and entertaining. |

Once is enough Review by: carolinagirl, Jan 6, 2010 |
| I saw the show during the preview week. I choose this play just to see John Stamos and it was my first ever Broadway play. I am glad that I went but would not choose it again. As noted below, I think that the stage was too big for the production. I knew the story line and had a hard time with it. My husband hated it. Unfortunately I even fell asleep a couple of times. Very embarrased. Did enjoy seeing John Stamos live but with all of his ... read more makeup on I didn't get to see the John Stamos I was expecting. As this was my first ever play I really did not know what to expect. |

Never ever pay full price....USE BROADWAY BOX!!!! Review by: Frank from Manhattan, Dec 17, 2009 |
The poor ladies next to us actually paid full price for their tickets!!! I did my Broadway Box plug and informed them about your site. They'll never pay full price again which, for this show, isn't recommeneded! I think I'd shoot myself if I did! It was cute little show that belongs at a cute, small little theater with a small stage. But,for some reason, they put it on a huge stage. It's not a huge show!!! Was it ... read more like a community theater production, yes, but I knew that going in. John Stamos sings well and even in a nerdy suit and glasses he's still pretty good-looking. I just didn't buy he was this insecure, nerdy guy. Gina Gershon was OK as Rose but I kept waiting for her to break out into a big dance number but there was no dance number! Bill Irwin...there are no words! He just annoyed me! I did see the understudy to Birdie and he was TERRIFIC! Go if you must, like me, but NEVER EVER PAY FULL PRICE!!!! USE BROADWAY BOX!!! |

See the Movie Review by: Carol, Dec 4, 2009 |
| Cute, but with an all-star miscast cast, the show is a disappointment. You would think that the director and writer could update some of the references, which were lost on a good deal of young theater-goers. They have no idea who Ed Sullivan is or some of the entertainers he presented. They do not know that Elvis Presley was drafted either. |

Bye Bye Birdie is the best Family Show on Broadway. Review by: LovexxxNYC, Nov 29, 2009 |
| This is a great Broadway show. The opening number (The Telephone Hour) sets the tone for the high energy, youthfull musical numbers that soon follow. John Stamos is perfectly cast in the Albert role; and Bill Irwin has the audience rolling as his Ed Sullivan number is just too funny. Nolan Funk has a great voice and delivers a very believable Conrad Birdie. This is a wonderful show to bring the entire family to - your kids will love it (mine ... read more certainly did). I don't know how the critics got this show so wrong....it was so fun; and so well done. |

Wow, this show is AMAZING. Review by: Lys, Nov 27, 2009 |
| I've seen this show 3 times, have tickets for 2 more performances, and plan to go many, many more times. I personally love it and think it's amazing. It's lively, and perfect, and nothing beats a classic. Allie Trimm is amazing as Kim, Nolan Gerard Funk is a perfect Conrad, John Stamos plays the part of Conrad well, but I think he could definitely be better. Bill Irwin plays Mr. MacAfee, and he is HILARIOUS. Everyone laughs at his jokes, and ... read more same with Jayne Houdeyshell, Mae Peterson. She is hilarious, and has amazing talent. And Neil Macafrey is personally my favorite actor. He is 11 and plays Randolph MacAfee. He is extremely talented and deserves more credit than he's been getting. He is hilarious, adorable, and has an amazing voice. Gina Gershon. AMazing actress, not such a great dancer or singer. But hilarious. The kids/teenagers are fantastic. They're all dancers and the scenes they are in are amazing. They are my other favorite parts of the show. And the set--LOVE IT. |

Go See This One!! Review by: Polly, Nov 20, 2009 |
| This show was fabulous! I was in New York for only one night and wanted to see it but was hesitant after reading some of the reviews. I consulted a New York friend who saw it and loved it, and I trust her opinion moreso than strangers! I am so glad I saw this production. The singing voices were right on target, the costumes were whimsical and so colorful and the set was perfect. On past trips I've seen Wicked and Jersey Boys and enjoyed both but ... read more they are so different than this play. Wicked is spectacular in its own weird way and the music is perfect in Jersey Boys, but Bye Bye Birdie has it all, plus I left so happy. John Stamos as Albert is adorable with his singing and cute dance steps. |

Couldn't Disagree More.... Review by: , Nov 5, 2009 |
| ...with other reviewers here. My hubby, mom and I went to a matineee yesterday and were utterly charmed. No, the show isn't South Pacific or Hair and no, John Stamos isn't Dick Van Dyke (or even Jerry V.D.); however, the rest of the cast more than made up for the leads with their exhuberant spirits and their total dedication to seeing that you have a blast. The musical numbers were so much fun and alot of the choreography and set design was ... read more ingenious and even surpassed the movie. We go to alot of shows on and off Broadway, and while this wasn't the very best, it does not rate all the negative reviews. The crowd that came to the matinee stood and danced in the aisles at the end of the show and everyone said how great it was as we were walking out...smiles on everyone's faces. What more could you ask ? the theatre itself was roomy and neat, too. Please - go with an open mind and spirit and make your own assessment; don't believe everything you read. I think with a few tweaks here and there and a couple of cast changes, it could do very very well on Broadway. JMHO. Peace. |

Bill Irwin Stole the Show !! Review by: Javy, Nov 2, 2009 |
Caught the Show, and I have to say it was very Plain. I found the Story Line Entertaining, but the two leads Acotrs DID NOT have the chemistry that was needed to convey the Audience. The Supporting Staff and the Cast Really Held the Show together. Although I beleive that John Stamos is NOT suited for another Play ( John , If you are Reading this GO to HAIR ...You will get a TONY !) John Has a Good Singing Voice, but very Stiff in dance ..... read more.Gina Is very good in Dance but in Song it was NOT her strength. I would say See the Show as a Matinee, and If there is Good Discount or for People who remember the 1960 Play , Go and Check it Out, If NOT, See Something else. |

Do not pay full price for this show. Review by: susieQ49, Nov 1, 2009 |
| Saw this show on Saturday and I believe it was the WEAKEST Broadway talent I have ever seen. Although it is hard to compete with the cast of the movie (which is my only previous reference to this show), I hope the producers wise up and cast some real singers and dancers in the future. Without better talent, I don't think this show can last long. I have a couple of additional complaints - costumes very cartoonish and Bill Irwin was WAY ... read more over the top. Music is still great. I only wish the singing was worthy. Wise up or close down. |
