Brownsville Bred should be Broadway Bound!!! Review by: MsGenny, Oct 4, 2010 |
| Just saw the show yesterday at the Schoolhouse Theater in Croton Falls, NY. Elaine is an extraordinary actress and having this play performed in an intimate theater like the Schoolhouse made it even more heartfelt and gripping. Truly, do not miss this show. |

Brownsville Bred is a masterpiece, better than most of the shows on Broadway! It would be an immeasurable and irreparable loss to miss it. Review by: Baltasar D. Cruz, Dec 1, 2009 |
I saw Brownsville Bred on Nov. 30, 2009 and was pleased to learn from Elaine Del Valle (the writer/performer) that additional performances of her show will be scheduled at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, although the exact dates have yet to be announced. Brownsville Bred is an autobiographical one-woman show, in which Elaine Del Valle dramatizes the story of her youth, growing up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY. It is an emotional roller coaster ... read more ride through tragedy and triumph, passionately and emotionally recounted. Ms. Del Valle is as eloquent as she is beautiful and assumes a childlike demeanor as she begins to recount memorable events from her youth -- some joyful, others harrowing -- and entertainingly assumes various personas (e.g., her father, her mother, etc.) to reenact her experiences. Ms. Del Valle is joyful one moment, fearful, tearful, and then joyful again as she recounts and dramatizes various incidents from her past -- many of which I subsequently learned came as complete revelations to her closest family members (some of whom I met after her performance)! Brownsville Bred is as dramatic and powerful as anything you are likely to see on Broadway, as well as more entertaining and, frankly, better. Certainly, it is more honest, moving, gritty, and emotional. You can sense that Elaine's tears -- which at times flow silently down her cheeks during her performance -- are real and can only admire the courage with which she guides her audience through her past and to the present. I highly recommend this play for everybody and would consider it an immeasurable and irreparable loss to miss it. Indeed, Brownsville Bred is so good and so significantly underpriced that I feel it is wrong to charge audiences so little to see it! |

I laughed, I cried and then I laughed again. Over and over again. Review by: Broadwayman, May 24, 2009 |
| I laughed, I cried, and then I laughed again! Elaine Del Valle took charge of my every emotion! I was so invested in the character, at times I wanted to jump from my seat to hug her, to help her, to laugh with her and then to celebrate with her...I left uplifted by a life story that is a beautiful example of humanity. It's like Slum Dog Millionaire meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding! If the TONY Board could see this play Brownsville Bred would sweep!... read more! |

Funny and Scary One Woman Show Review by: Friendly Frank, May 23, 2009 |
| I received an email from Elaine Del Valle about her one person show. We had worked on a commercial a few years ago. I remember her being a fun person on the set, so I thought her show might be interesting. I had no idea that I would be taken on an emotional roller coaster that would leave me exhausted but exhilarated. The world that she took the audience into was one I knew nothing about, but her telling of it made me feel that I was right ... read more there. And some of it was really pretty raw. I'm not big on one person shows, but this one really should be seen. It would make a great movie, if someone had the guts to finance it. It's a wild ride. Good luck with it Elaine. |

From the opening scene to the finale, Elaine will blow you away. What a great show! Review by: Frank, May 22, 2009 |
| New York is full of wonderful talents, but Elaine DelValle's play is a must see for all who love theatre. The story is both happy and sad at times as Elaine will have you at the end of your seats anxiously awaiting for her next character to emerge. What a beauty, what a talent, what a show!!! |

Nrownsville Bred: A Tour de Force Review by: Jason Z., May 20, 2009 |
| Elaine del Valle has created a stunning night of theater. Brownsville Bred is more than a dynamite, contemporary New York story -- which it is. It is an engaging coming-of-age narrative about a young girl who becomes a teenager that alternately touches you with humor, pathos and heartbreak. Ms. Del Valle is clearly a talented writer and a gifted actress and has skillfully crafted a unique and wonderful piece of theater. **** (4 stars) |
