Outrageous and Fun! Review by: Upper West Sider, Oct 10, 2010 |
| Bawdy, outrageous and 90 minutes of fabulous fun and entertainment. History on steroids. Myself and 2 teens loved it from every ridiculous minute to the absolutely crazy lines and songs. You just knew you are in for a different experience of a show just from walking in the the overly decorated theater and the set on the stage. Benjamin Walker is terrific and adorable and so is the rest of the cast. Not your typical Broadway musical ... read more to say the least but in the genre of the new type of shows like Rent, Spring Awakeing and American Idiot. If you're ready for a different type of theatrical experience, run and see it. Only sorry we didn't see it at the Public when we had the chance. |

| Unfortunatly, this show was disappointing and I would not recommend it to anyone. It is a show with a premise that could have been a winner if the script had attempted to soar beyond its fixation with an early adolescent world view and level of humor. And that is not to disparage adolescents since I suspect that the more mature adolescents in the audience also found this show disappointing. |

Bloody, Bloody TERRIBLE! Review by: Carol, Oct 9, 2010 |
I knew 30 seconds into this intermissionless show that I would hate it. Two hours later I was crawling out of my skin! It was loud, profane, and pointless. Of course my husband and I are 40 years older than the 20-something crowd who loved this mess. People like Rogers and Hammerstein must be spinning in their graves. It was a really wasted night, and I was stuck in the middle of a row or I would have RUN as fast as I could from the ... read more theater. |

Um... what? Review by: CityGirl, Sep 26, 2010 |
I adore all kinds of Broadway shows - everything from American Idiot to La Cage to Chicago to Next to Normal. I'm a rock girl, through and through. I even love history. But this? This I didn't get at all. I was looking forward to seeing this show since it's run at the Public Theater in the spring, but what I saw last night definitely wasn't what I expected. The show doesn't know what it wants to be... a completely ridiculous mix of ... read more slapstick and junior high humor, or a serious mix of historical ideas and philosophical questions. The two just didn't mix well, with most of the show's laughs coming from crawling around on the floor and slapping each other while the finale tried to be dark and serious. I just didn't get the humor, setting the 1700's time period in both the 19th and 21st centuries, or the music (which was mainly just whining the same word over and over). If you're looking for a rock musical, see American Idiot or Rock of Ages. The redundant music and ridiculous storyline here just weren't worth the price, and I can't see it lasting too long. That being said, the band was awesome and the best part of the show! |

Howard Zinn, move over! Review by: ronda, May 24, 2010 |
| Loved the show/laughed for the duration. At 70, the current humor is...oh, well, not so funny. I'm glad to see a good historical/hysterically funny rendition of bloody Jackson. (Howard Zinn would have loved it too) Shd. be part of American History curriculum. Great dancing/songs/energy. Go see it. |

Just saw the show today...won free tix and didn't know what to expect...I'm 52, husband 58, sister 49-we laughed almost through the whole show! It was probably geared more toward a little younger crowd, due to the language and the young references and mannerisms of the cast. Lots of politically incorrect lines, just my style, and lots of handsome and pretty actors, lots of great rock/alternative type music, pretty cool set that used a fairly ... read more small spot for alot of cast members. The cast was musically very talented, not sure if there was a bad voice amongst them! Another plus is the seats are fairly comfortable with tons of leg room, at least where we sat in G 13-16 I think. I came to this website to look into getting discount tix to see it again, as I'm sure there is going to be alot of great lines that I'll appreciate even better the second time around. This site asks us to "share the reason why I liked or disliked the show". I think 'liked' is definitely not a strong enough description-maybe can't commit to loving it till I see a second time, but I think it is safe to say all three of us really, really liked it alot! |
