Couldn't hear actors in upper tier seats! Review by: BlueMoon, Jul 19, 2009 |
| UNFORTUNATELY we missed a 1/3 of the show becuz' we couldn't hear the actors - they were not on mike! For those of us in the upper tier seats, we missed so much. Doesn't the director check for such things? Obviously not. What we did hear was terrific. |

Superb Acting Review by: Heather, Jul 12, 2009 |
| Have just seen this show and thought it was terrific. Having seen Rupert Everett years ago in Another Country, he was the main reason for us choosing this. The entire cast is first rate and they looked like they were really enjoying themselves. The script is witty, well-written and was delivered perfectly. There is no fancy set changes (the scene remains the same throughout with only the light changing)and all the action takes place ... read more in the drawing room. This is definitely a dialogue driven play. It was a privilege to see the timeless Ms Lansbury on stage. First rate. The only negative is the lack of legroom in the balcony. |

Blithe Spirit Misses the Mark Review by: broadwaysandy, Jul 8, 2009 |
| Ruppert Everett was terrific and Angela Landsbury although only in two scenes was delightful. The show was enjoyable, however, it left me feeling like I wanted something more. At one point I believed there might be a twist that would give this show a little meat, alas, that was not to be. It you are only seeing one show, see something else, however, if you are in town to see lots of shows and enjoy seeing a star studded cast, then give this ... read more show a shot. |

Laugh! Laugh! Laugh! Maid me Laugh, too. Review by: Diract 66, Jul 6, 2009 |
| There is not a funnier show on Broadway right now. All the actors were very good but I must mention one scene. Jayne Atkinson and Angela Lansbury have a scene together where Angela went up on her lines twice and Jayne saved her but could not hold a straight face. It was a delight to see the two actors play off each other. Jayne smiling and Angela looking totally serious. You could almost see Christine Ebersole float across the stage ... read more with every movement. Gracefully sweeping through the scenes. Rupert Everett was the proper Englishman in the throughly confusing situation. Losing in the end with two wives and winning in the end with no wives??!! The only play on Broadway were you can laugh out loud and never feel alone because everyone will be laughing with you. Just watch Angela Lansbury dance across the stage. Wonderful! Yes, the maid made each little bit memorable. Truly the answer to there are no small parts only small actors. This small actress will be big! |

Favorite Night In NY Review by: GWC, Jun 4, 2009 |
| Without doubt the best show I saw while in NY. Enjoyed Jayne Atkinson, Christine Ebersole and Rupert Everett immensely, but the play literally had to stop due to the applause when Angela Lansbury stepped onto the stage. And she did not disappoint. The comic timing, the facial expressions and the dancing made sure the audience paid attention to her every move. Susan Louise O'Connor, as the maid, was an absolute scene stealer. See ... read more it while you can. |

DROLL NOEL! Review by: Spanky, May 18, 2009 |
Saw this recently with a friend on a Saturday evening, and the Shubert, a vintage jewelbox of a theater, was packed to capacity. We laughed, and enjoyed the well-oiled machine of a cast - like being transported to a witty '30's dinner party. Rupert Everett, as the beleaguered, and exasperating husband, has a deft flair for comedy. Jayne Atkinson, a Helen Mirren-lookalike, is spot-on as his much put-upon second wife, having to live up to the ... read more memory of his first. Christine Ebersole is luminous as the ghost of his first wife, and then again, what can I say about Angela Lansbury that hasn't been said already? She's an INTERNATIONAL treasure, in a role as the ditsy medium that allows this young lady to dance and flail her arms and legs around, and ground the show. I would follow Angela to the opening of a bottle! And let's not forget about the unfortunate maid, with perfect comic timing. The set was wonderful, too, evocative of an English drawing room with perfect ambiance. We had a really wonderful evening; I highly recommend this to "raise" your spirits, too! |

Even Better on a Second Viewing - Highly Recommended Review by: NYKnows, Apr 29, 2009 |
| I took friends to see this play last night, my second time to attend it. And it was even better than last month - the cast have added some new business, and it is even funnier than before. Great work all around! And they are clearly all at the top of their game and having a great time too. Really great. Try to get seats close to the stage to see them really interacting, it's a treat. And that voice singing the lovely songs between acts - ... read more that really is Christine Ebersole's voice, she plays Elvira. Lovely! I think that this play, "Waiting for Godot" and "Joe Turner's Come and Gone" (all revivals, why is that?) are the 3 best shows this season, and the best in several years. |

Highly spirited production. Talk about "revivals"! Review by: Callasforever, Apr 23, 2009 |
| What is not to love about this highly "spirited" production? Angela Lansbury is a gas, and Rupert Everett's comic timing is superb. As Mr. Everett's two wives, one past and one present (that soon changes), Ms. Ebersole and Ms Atkinson are divine. I cannot praise this production enough. Did I mention the maid???? This production is just the ticket to cure our economic blues. R. K. |

Review by: theatremom, Apr 20, 2009 |
| Can't fathom how anyone who enjoys theatre wouldn't enjoy this show. The set is excellent - more like a movie set than a stage set, the humor is sophisticated (think American Movie Classics), and the acting is superb. Shubert Theater is a smaller, lovely theatre, across from the classic Sardi's. If you want a taste of vintage Broadway with it's elegant humor and gracious taste, then go. My 14 year old daughter and I loved it. |

What a treat! Review by: mickey, Apr 4, 2009 |
This production was worth every penny. The entire cast is fantastic and work beautifully as an ensemble. Angela Landsbury steals the show, as well she should. The show is true to it's pre-WW1 roots, so don't go expecting a contemporary, biting comedy. There are great laughs for those who don't mind (or look forward) to the old days where great humor was based on wit and reparte. It can drag a bit in the pacing, but overall it is a must see ... read more for any fan of the talented cast, Noel Coward, or classic (albeit gentle) comedy |

WHAT A HOOT! Review by: BigKen, Apr 1, 2009 |
| This was a very light, lively and enjoyable show! The set and what they did with the lighting were extremely well done. All actors were perfectly casted. I think Angela Landsbury stole the show with her quirky dancing, arm movements, and facial expressions. Rupert Everett looked like a different person with the hair style and English accent. And everyone else was simply...incredible. Although this was not a musical, Christine Ebersole, with ... read more her beautiful nightengale voice and the accompaniment of a piano sang a song at the beginning of every act. We had some good laughs and I woke up smiling this morning thinking about the show. Go see it! |

Highly Recommended Review by: NYKnows, Mar 26, 2009 |
| This show is a treat from start to finish. Noel Coward at his witty best for the story (with lovely adds via projections in between acts), great acting, great costumes, and lots of fun. Angela Lansbury steals the show with her witty medium character, particularly when she is dancing up a storm, she looks straight out of a 20's movie! Rupert Everett is clearly perfectly cast as the author with the ghostly wife, and Jayne Atkinson is great ... read more as the frumpy second wife. Christine Ebersole as the ghost wife is funny, but not as sublime as her husband remembers, and that is part of the joke. Her singing voice provides the beautiful music, thank you Christine for that! A must see because no modern playwright can touch the quality. I hope aspiring writers see it, to learn what good theater really is. Worth every penny, don't wait to see it. |

Extremely Enjoyable Review by: BillyElliot Fan, Mar 24, 2009 |
| The show and production is just what it should be--light, airy and enjoyable. You're not going to get Shakespeare, but that's not the point of the show anyway. Noel Coward is Noel Coward. I found it quite funny, and thought the cast excellent. Ruppert Everett was fun to watch as his character changed from a cool customer to someone at the end of his rope; Jayne Atkinson as an even cooler, controlling wife, and Christine ... read more Ebersole had the perfect etheral look (as well as a slight wink of her eye)as the mischevious first wife. Of course Angela Lansbury was the best, and IS the best. I've always been a fan of hers, and as Madame Arcati she has found the perfect part--a little like Jessica Fletcher turned upside down. She was hilarious. Go for the fun of it. |
